This article gives great advice on how to come up with speech topics: "pay attention to your life and the ideas will come" https://www.toastmasters.org/magazine/magazine-issues/2021/may/speech-topics-are-everywhere
Toastmasters International - Where do you find speech topics? A simple answer comes from 2003 World Champion of Public Speaking Jim Key: “I live life, and I pay attention.”
Division F Spring Contest did not disappoint with so many fantastic speeches on a range of topics! We heard participating contestants give speeches that were witty, heartfelt and inspiring. Congratulations to our very own club member Steven Ngo for winning 2nd place with his powerful speech "the A word"! Well done!!

Our Open House was a roaring success! It was great to see both new and familiar faces, with former members participating, 5 new guests and 2 brand new club members! We kicked things off with our grammarian Amy presenting the word of the day “flummoxed”, and our very engaging Toastmaster Brittney presenting the creative theme of “What sets us apart” where everyone had to describe something unique about themselves during introductions.
Then our very own Division F Director Rebecca Klepic gave us an inspiring speech titled “North Star”, challenging everyone to find a mentor and other tools to guide them on their individual journeys of personal growth. Next we were led through a fun and creative table topics by Camila, where members were led on a scavenger hunt to find different items in their house to speak to. We’re so proud of our guests for stepping up and trying table topics for the first time, they did such a great job!
Finally, Bob gave an encouraging evaluation of Rebecca’s speech, describing what was “good, better and best” with a couple suggestions for improvement. Ruby Gunna, our Area F26 Director concluded with a positive general evaluation of the overall meeting and all of our table topics speakers. We’re looking forward to the next meeting on March 17 and keeping up the momentum!
Come join us next Wednesday, March 3rd for an OPEN HOUSE and learn what Toastmasters is all about! We have a fun event planned with creative impromptu speaking (Table Topics), a prepared speech, evaluations and more!
Last Wednesday night's Toastmaster's meeting was another success with the addition of 3 wonderful guests!
The theme was "dreams & ambitions" and we were inspired to hear about everyone's individual lifelong or yearly dreams, ambitions and goals. Lauriane gave a persuasive speech about why we should visit her home town of Paris, as she led us on an evocative journey through the streets of Paris to some of her favorite places in the city. Then Adriana challenged us with her creative table topics, where we had to describe the meaning of some of her favorite quotes. We ended with some very positive and encouraging evaluations by Bob, Brittney and Amy.
We had another fantastic meeting on Wednesday! Two inspiring speeches, followed by some fun table topics, where we had to describe why someone's else's 'dream job' was really our own. We were also joined by 3 wonderful guests who brought their own personalities and style to the meeting! I'm looking forward to the next meeting!
We have another great meeting planned for tomorrow night! The theme will be "Black History Month", and we have 2 short speeches planned. The first speech will be about Different Leadership Styles, and the second speech is about Building a Mentorship program, presented by our very own Area F26 Director. Looking forward to it and hopefully we'll see some new faces!
WAAMtastic meetings are running again, starting tonight! The meetings will run every 2nd Wednesday from 5:45-7:15 pm. Guests are always welcome!
Tonight, we'll hear a speech from Bob which is part of his 3rd pathway called "Engaging Humour". Looking forward to hearing his speech "Getting to know me by the things that are funny" 😄
At our last meeting, Bob used effective body language and different types of gestures to share his harrowing story of peril in the deep snow.
Did you know there are 4 different types of gestures to help you become a more effective public speaker?
1. Descriptive gestures-gestures used to describe something or a situation
2. Emphatic (emotional) gestures-emotional gestures to symbolize our feelings
3. Suggestive gestures-gestures that depict moods or emotions
4. Prompting gestures-gestures to prompt the audience to do something

Toastmasters International - What’s the difference between a memorable speech and one that is quickly forgotten? Researchers say hand gestures are key.
Looking forward to tonight's meeting where we'll have a guest join us straight from the Division D Humorous speech contest, and give her winning speech "The Three R's". Come join us from 5:45 to 7:15 pm!
We had so much fun playing the game "Would I lie to you?" for tabletopics at last Wednesday's meeting, based off of the popular British comedy show. Members were challenged to fool other club members with an on-the spot lie, or tell a truth, and it was up to the audience to decide! Check out the game on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSQbtS13VYg.
While Bob did a fantastic job describing how he hit a bird on the golf course, Amy managed to convince us she missed her University "fungus" class because of a snowstorm, and Lauriane explained how she excelled at target practice in middle school, ultimately it was our guest who did the best job at fooling all of us when he told the convincing tale about sky diving in Dubai! Well done everyone!
