St. Ann Ranch Country Inn, located in a sheltered valley near Trochu, Alberta, can be your year-round escape from everyday life.
It was 50 years ago when Louis and Lorene Frere purchased the property from his grandparents, Ernest and Marthe Frere. Following extensive research, renovations, and antique collecting St. Ann Ranch Teahouse and Bed and Breakfast opened on July 1, 1989. In December of 2000, their son Tom and wife Holly became owners of the business and property and operate it to this day. The pride the Frere’s take in their business is evident through the warm reviews and testimonials left by their guests. When asked what advice Holly has for others starting out in the industry, she notes “make as many connections as you can, you never know which businesses you can work with along the way.”
The property is a provincial historic site, being the original site of the Town of Trochu. Seven onsite museums and an interpretive centre feature the history of the region. Their clean, comfortable rooms are furnished with antiques and collectibles and all the modern conveniences. Most rooms in the country inn have private baths. The Ranch is ideal for family stays, scrapbookers, quilters, women’s retreats, groups of friends, and B&B guests for short or long-term stays. Their 30-room mansion and adjacent cabin can accommodate up to 21 people. St. Ann Ranch has large, well-maintained grounds ideal for weddings, family reunions, and other outdoor events. The cabin offers you a deluxe suite or superior room. They can even plan your wedding day.
St Ann Ranch remains open and continues to follow all Provincial COVID-19 and AHS hotel guidelines. Call Holly to learn more about how they keep you safe during your stay!

Welcome to the Boomtown Trail
Boomtown Trail is a tourism region in Alberta, east of the Queen Elizabeth II Highway. The road trip takes you down the Hwy 21 & 56 corridors, and stretches from Camrose County in the north to Three Hills in the south. Get ready to travel down the crossroads of the past and the present, get ready for a place where history and culture come to life! The trail is an area rich with stories of the First Nation peoples, buffalo hunts and settlements, railway expansion and new-land promises, settlers and boomtowns, and coal mining and dinosaur digs. Not to mention cowboys and characters, farmers and ranchers, and most of all, country towns that are at the heart of everything. People who have passed through and settled here have a keen connection to the land. The eastern Alberta landscape is a mix of prairie, marshland, k**b and kettle topography, badlands, aspen parkland, river valleys, coulees, shallow lakes, and big wild Albertan sky. Boomtown Trail wants to share the joy of discovery with you. One of the great charms of the trail is a capacity to provide you delightful surprises. Every step of the way, you will find yourself captivated by some new and perhaps little known delight. There are also sights of absolute amazement that will shock you with natural beauty, historical significance, complete charm, or significant wonder.
If you have never been to the eastern side of Alberta before, what are you waiting for? How many more things can you discover and how many more adventures await you on the Boomtown Trail? Once you have paid us a visit you will want to return again and again. From the folks who call the Boomtown Trail home, we welcome you.
