PSA: Petting Zoo Complaints
We deeply appreciate the public's concern about recent photos and statements shared about a local petting zoo. We understand the photos are shocking and saddening for those who have seen them and we thank everyone for sending in their complaints and concerns.
Petting zoos do not fall under the responsibility of the PEI Humane Society, but rather the department of agriculture. Therefore, we have forwarded all complaints to the department and will continue to do so as they come in.
If you would like to file a complaint, you may do so via the department of agriculture's email: [email protected] or by calling 902-368-4880

🧡Adoption Update: Mitzi🧡
Three months ago I adopted Mitzi (previously just “Mitz”).
When I first visited the shelter, I held Mitzi, and she started purring and “making biscuits” on my arms - I like to say she chose me! I am so glad I adopted her, not only because I know older cats and black cats are oftentimes less likely to be adopted, but also because of how much joy she has brought to my life.
She is the cuddliest and most affectionate animal I’ve ever met - let alone cat - always needing to be on my lap or getting snuggles. Every day after work, she is waiting right at the door to greet me (and demand treats, of course). She is definitely a spoiled girl! She loves to sit on her cat tree perch or in any cardboard box available and lay in my arms like a baby while getting belly rubs and chin scratches.
Thank you to all the staff at the PEI Humane Society for all the hard work you do!

🧡Adoption Update: Atlas🧡
I wanted to pass on an adoption success story for our barn buddy, Atlas.
We adopted Atlas as a barn buddy in December. We hoped that he would be a companion to our other barn cat, Mrs. Hughes, who we adopted back in 2020. She had come from a feral colony and often seemed lonely here. Not only has he become her companion, but they have turned into best friends and are seldom seen apart, whether they are snoozing together in the barn or out hunting. Atlas is a great hunter, and the two of them are doing a terrific job at keeping the barn rodent-free. He is very friendly and loves to head butt us and demands to be petted at feeding time. We are so grateful for the barn buddy program and are delighted that this adoption worked out so fabulously for all!
Thanks for all that you do.

🧡Adoption Update: Gonzo (aka Cheese)🧡
Gonzo (formally Cheese!) is settling in so nicely. He’s the sweetest boy and he loves to cuddle and play. He is such a purr monster, and especially loves his tummy rubs. He’s been home now for almost 2 weeks, and he loves to explore and gets along well with my dogs. He’s a handsome happy boy!
