Well the dust is starting to settle and we have made it 2 weeks with this sweet little boy joining our family.
💙
I always tell my clients how pregnancy and postpartum are a humbling season of life and I had to remind myself of this many times- as well as hearing it from my own support system over the past 2 weeks.
💙
Our birth experience with a planned cesarean was beautiful and my medical team was so supportive with our family’s wishes.
💙
The hormonal roller coaster is slowly starting to level out and my physical healing has been going well. Thankfully we planned ahead with supports over the last two weeks- family and friends to help out and support our older boys, feeding support from , postpartum support from and of course all the daily texts and encouragement to keep me going.
💙
If I could recommend one thing- find your support systems and don’t hesitate to reach out as much as you need them!!
💙

I have been working on a little project that is near and dear to my heart.
💛
I hope to have the finished product complete and ready for your viewing pleasure before the end of April!
💛
April is cesarean birth awareness month. I myself have birthed both of my kids through cesarean birth and am planning to do so again with my third!
💛
For those who had a planned cesarean birth, did you do any preparation for this? Did you wish you had?
💛
For those with unplanned cesarean births, was this part of your prenatal education?
💛
I hope this will provide all with education, knowledge and tips with whichever birth journey they have.
💛

You get that positive test! Now what?!
Maybe you’re madly researching baby gear, cute clothes, maternity photos etc.
But what about making a plan to learn about your body! Physically, mentally, emotionally and all that it will go through with pregnancy and beyond.
So many times I’ll meet with a client and one of the first things we do is go over the pelvic anatomy and every time I’ll hear “why didn’t I learn about this before!” Or “I wish I had known about all these connections before birth!”
So if you or someone close to you is pregnant, postpartum or just a person who wants to learn about their body and how it should work for them, come see a pelvic health physiotherapist 💛

No matter what stage of motherhood you’re in, it is always true that your kids will benefit from a mom who is regulated, at peace, and has some gas in the tank.

So, prioritize your health and well being for yourself. And also, think of it also as an investment into the health and well being of your children.

What is one thing you can do for yourself today that will benefit your family?

Ideas:
Take a walk around the block by yourself
Have a bath
Meet a friend for coffee
Listen to a podcast
Go to bed early

What are some ideas you can share with other moms?

Pregnancy is not a pathology!
Yet some pregnant individuals will experience pain in and around their pelvis and be told it’s because of hormones and that their pelvis is unstable!
If this were true, every single pregnant individual would go through this and we know this is not the case!
Do hormones have an impact on our bodies during pregnancy and postpartum? Absolutely! Though, they do not impact us in our physical functioning as once thought.
Historically, we were told and then taught pregnant women, that their pelvic pain is a result of the hormone relaxin. We would tell women that relaxin causes laxity [read: instability] in the pelvis. Fortunately, research has now shown us this is just not true!
Instead, more often is that as our body is constantly changing and adapting to growth of baby, an impairment in motor control, or less efficient muscle coordination, is the culprit of discomfort and pain in pregnancy that can impact function.
So what does this mean??? Your pelvis is a strong structure that will not just upslip/sublux/separate spontaneously. If you’re experiencing pain or discomfort, likely your body needs a little guidance to get the most effective muscle recruitment and coordination for your ever changing body.
If you are experiencing pain in pregnancy and postpartum, it doesn’t have to “just be this way”.
Any questions? Send them my way 😊

You can have the best stroller/wagon/carrier in the world, but mom’s arms are usually their favourite place to be.
Remember to utilize your arm strength to support your back and pelvic floor.
Maximize the support to your pelvic floor by exhaling as you pick up your kids.
And keep breathing as you carry them!
Low back pain and pelvic floor muscle dysfunction are often related. Ensure your rehab goals are addressing your whole body and not one specific area.
