Undoing the belief "healthy = expensive". Healthy eating IS affordable and doesn't have to be fancy. Ditch the misconception and your body will thank you for choosing healthy eating.

Examples of healthy eating cheap:

1.)Seasonal produce – Fruits and vegetables in their
growing season are cheaper and not to mention, fresher!
2.)Frozen – Frozen veggies last a long time, come in bulk, allows you to portion out however much you want whenever you want and are cheap!
3.)Legumes – Cheaper than meat and are a great source of protein
4.)Whole foods - Oats are cheaper than processed, refined cereals; block of cheese is cheaper than shredded packaged cheese

Tips for saving money:

1.)Take advantage of sales – Buy your favourite foods while there is a sale and freeze
2.)Make a grocery list before shopping – sticking to a grocery list will prevent impulsive, unintentional buys

This was a shot from my potluck at my friend's place this past weekend and I loved this photo. Food is powerful. It brings people together and is a universal language that everyone understands. There's an unquestionable sense of community and bonding when we are welcomed with a table full of food or a simple "would you like something to drink?". In recent decades in North America, our food has been the center of the blame for its role in obesity. It seemed like everywhere we turned we were hearing and seeing words like "high sugar" , "high salt", "trans fat". Slowly feelings of guilt, shame, dislike, and suspicion evolved towards food and detracted from its authentic purposes of nourishment, fuel, and healing. Slowly, we are forgetting food for its amazing ability to bring joy, laughter and togetherness. Eating should be unapologetic, appreciated and savored so let's learn to make time for our food and eat in a way that does our food, and our health justice; eating wholesome, moderated, varied, balanced and most importantly, with the people we love

Did you know that water is the most important nutrient that we can consume? It has zero calories and is essential in many of our bodies' metabolic processes. It carries nutrients and oxygen in our blood, helps cleanse our system of waste and keeps us hydrated to name a few. As healthy adults, we need to consume between 9-13 glasses of water A DAY (9 glasses for women, 13 glasses for men) and many of us are nowhere close to that due to various reasons. For many, the plain taste of water is boring and bland sooo my favorite remedy for this is infused water! Simply by adding creative combinations of fruit, and herbs, plain water will suddenly burst with flavor and taste and not to mention the legions of vitamins and antioxidants infused! It's fun, flavorful and delicious. The combinations that I did were:

-cucumber + strawberry + lime
-grapefruit + lime + mint
-raspberry + black berry * lemon

You can get creative and add a hint of honey, rosemary, ginger or any herb you like for flavor! Hope you will give this cool DIY a try!

Make breakfast quick and easy with this refreshing green smoothie! Takes less than 3 minutes to make and is chock full of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber.

Ingredients:
1 cup fresh leafy greens (kale and/or spinach)
1 tbsp avocado
1 banana
1/2 cup frozen mixed fruits
1/2 cup coconut milk (or substitute with reduced sugar juices or milk substitutes)
1 tbsp flax seeds
1tbsp chia seeds
Add turmeric/ cinnamon to spice things up
Add lemon juice for vitamin C
