I just wanted to share a little ramble I found on Facebook.author unknown. For some people, competitive bowling is everything. For others, a little cosmic bowl with the family is more their cup of tea. Regardless of who you are or what kind of bowling you enjoy, I just want to ask one thing of you...GO BOWLING!

The bowling world, a world in which I was brought up in from the young age of 3, is struggling. Alleys are shutting down all over the place, and it's an absolute shame. Most people have no idea how much fun bowling really is, and many of the people who do, go once and have a blast, but then don't go back for years.

Bowling for 29 years in both youth and adult leagues, as well as provincial, national and international tournaments, has benefited me in so many ways, and here's just a few examples...

1. Hand eye coordination. From the age of 3, I was taught to bowl with one hand (no kiddie throwing between the legs), this in turn helped build good hand eye coordination, which in turn helped me in other sports such as basketball and baseball.

2. Respect, determination, admiration, sportsmanship, the list goes on. I would divulge into just how much bowling helped me learn these things, but that could seriously take all day.

3. Independence. At a young age I was travelling across Canada to compete in Nationals, thus helping me learn how to be independent, problem solve, and make (mostly) wise choices without mommy and daddy there.

4. Relationships. What better place to take someone on a first date than a bowling alley? Seriously, it's lots of fun...and you get to stare at their bum all night ;)

5. Friendships. This one needs its own section. I pity the young people of this world who do not know what it's like to become friends with fellow bowlers, in my case from all over North America, and have these friendships last 20, 30, 50 years. If you're ever lucky enough to get involved in the bowling community, and see how much love their is for one another, I hope you're able to understand just how special this type of competitive friendship is.

Anyways, I guess the point of this message is this...the next time you're thinking about spending another $100 going to the movies for the 5th time this month, why not consider taking the family bowling. I can guarantee you will have just as much fun, if not more, for a fraction of the cost. As well, the next time you and your significant other are sitting at home yet again, wishing you had something fun you could get involved in together and meet new people, why not consider joining a bowling league. You don't have to be a Pro bowler (trust me), and I guarantee by the end of the season, you will have met and befriended lots of new people. And lastly, the next time you're wishing you had something structured, fun, and affordable for your youngsters to get involved with, I promise you, you won't regret getting them involved in a Youth League.

All the time I hear about supporting local, buying local, and this is no exception. Go Bowling, please...before it's too late and we are left wishing we still had a place to bowl like so many bowlers are these days.
