🧠 Fast Facts About Mental Health & Mental Illness 🧠
Mental health ≠ mental illness! Mental health is about well-being, while mental illness includes conditions like anxiety & depression.
You can have great mental health with a mental illness—or poor mental health without one.
Let’s clear up the confusion!
💙80% of the 8 million Canadians with disabilities live with invisible conditions like brain injuries, mental health challenges, and chronic pain.💙
🧠Brain Care Centre offers services and support for those with acquired brain injuries or concussions, helping clients rebuild their lives.
🧠 Brain Cancer Awareness Day: Know the Symptoms & The Facts 🧠
Brain and spinal cord cancer can have a profound impact, but early detection can make a difference. On this Brain Cancer Awareness Day, let’s take a closer look at both the stats and the symptoms.
📊 2024 Statistics:
🔹 3,300 Canadians will be diagnosed with brain and spinal cord cancer.
🔹 2,600 Canadians will lose their lives to these cancers.
🔹 1,850 men and 1,400 women will face this diagnosis.
Key Symptoms to Look For: Symptoms can vary depending on the tumor’s location in the brain, but common signs to watch out for include:
- Difficulty speaking or understanding language.
- Changes in vision, such as visual field cuts or double vision.
- Weakness or numbness in the face, arm, or leg.
- Hearing loss, trouble swallowing, or slurred speech.
Other common symptoms include:
- Headaches.
- Seizures (fits).
- Persistent nausea, vomiting, or drowsiness.
- Mental or behavioural changes, such as memory problems or personality shifts.
- Progressive weakness or paralysis on one side of the body.
- Vision or speech problems.
Recognizing these signs and seeking medical advice is crucial for early diagnosis. Raising awareness and understanding the symptoms can help save lives.
Let's continue to advocate for inclusive data collection in cancer research, so all people—regardless of gender identity—are represented and receive the care they need.
