With constant foot traffic and exposure to the elements, your concrete surfaces endure significant mechanical stress daily, often resulting in damage. Without proper restoration, water and salt can pe*****te the surface, accelerating corrosion and compromising structural integrity. Protecting your concrete from these threats is crucial.

In this case, traffic deck waterproofing systems were applied to these apartment floor surfaces, providing high tensile strength and resistance against moisture and chemical deterioration. Regular maintenance is essential to mitigate corrosion and prevent structural failure. Professional inspections by third-party engineers play a vital role in the early detection of potential issues, ensuring safety.

Taking a proactive approach not only extends the lifespan of your concrete surfaces but also reduces maintenance costs and creates a safer environment. Prioritize concrete preservation today to protect your investment for the future.

REMEMBERING THE PAST

This cherished photo from the early 2000s features Desco's founders, Nestor and Orest Samycia, alongside our current owners, Daryl Samycia, Michael Spotowski, and Chris Samycia. It captures a pivotal moment in our history, symbolizing the dedication, hard work, and mentorship that have been the foundation of Desco's success.

During the transition from the late 1990s to the early 2000s, Nestor and Orest passed the torch of ownership, offering their unwavering support and guidance to Daryl, Michael, and Chris. Through their mentorship, they imparted invaluable lessons, opening doors to new opportunities and shaping the path forward.

Since its founding in 1956, Desco has grown and evolved, now offering a comprehensive range of services, from concrete restoration and polished concrete floors to an array of finishes and protective surfaces. Our legacy of excellence continues to thrive, built on the strong foundation laid by our founders.

When it comes to industrial concrete floors, their primary function is to provide a solid and reliable work surface. The ideal surface is smooth, uninterrupted, and designed to support seamless facility operations. Control joints are essential for concrete floors, as they guide where the concrete will crack as it cures and settles. However, these joints can also become impact points for hard-wheeled traffic during material handling, leading to wear and tear on vehicle wheels and increased replacement costs. Unfilled joints can accumulate dirt and debris, while unsupported concrete edges are prone to deterioration and damage.

Filling these joints to full depth with a semi-rigid polyurea is key to maintaining the integrity of your concrete floors. This approach provides crucial support to the joint shoulders, helping to protect the concrete from damage, extending the lifespan of forklift wheels and suspension systems, and keeping the floor easy to clean. By ensuring a smooth, uninterrupted surface, material-handling vehicles can operate at their optimal speed, maximizing productivity and efficiency.

Our team is proud to deliver high-quality, durable flooring solutions that meet our clients' unique needs. Looking to get your project started? Today, we're taking a trip down memory lane to the mid-1950s, when Desco first began its journey in the construction industry. Back then, safety literature and materials were quite different from what we have today, but the importance of safety on worksites was just as crucial.

In those early days, safety protocols included basic protective gear, manual safety drills, and printed safety manuals that emphasized fundamental practices like proper lifting techniques and the use of safety harnesses. These materials laid the foundation for a culture of safety that has been a core value at Desco since day one.

Importance of Safety: Protecting workers from the inherent hazards of construction improves productivity and morale while ensuring project efficiency.
Commitment to Safety: We have evolved our practices and equipment to meet modern standards, with regular training and the latest safety technologies to protect our workers.

Legacy of Safety: For over six decades, our dedication to safe work practices has been key to our success, and we remain committed to maintaining the highest safety standards in all our projects.

Surface preparation is a crucial step in the restoration process by producing sound, clean and suitably roughened surfaces on concrete substrates. This process includes the removal of unsound concrete, bond-inhibiting films, strength verification, opening the pore structure, and establishing profiles suitable for applying the specified protective system.

We at Desco follow the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI) Guideline No. 03732 to determine which surface profile we require for each product. Generally speaking, the thicker the material topping is, the greater the surface profile needs to be. We use common equipment to achieve the correct surface profile: diamond grinders, shot blasters and scarifiers. By following these guidelines, we can expect excellent bond adhesion and long-term performance of the material topping.

Desco has some of the best leading-edge equipment in the industry to prepare your floor for any finished floor.

It is common for businesses and organizations only to restore their industrial and commercial facilities if the damage is significant enough to affect their daily operations. Most commonly, structural slabs within parkade facilities are prone to deteriorate due to road salts and moisture from vehicle traffic. Maintaining your facility's overall health is essential for keeping your employees and clients safe. The mortar shown here is a polymer-modified, 2-component, fast-setting, non-sag cementitious mortar. It is designed to repair overhead and vertical surfaces like this one and is formulated with a migrating corrosion inhibitor to reduce corrosion. Many incredible benefits can be derived from this application, including an increase in durability, reduced crack potential, increased impact strength, improved resistance to freezing and thawing, and an increase in fatigue strength. In addition, conducting these maintenance items within your facility over time will prevent the spread of deterioration, resulting in lower replacement costs.
