🌾 Dozhinki Offering Incense 🌾 Harvest Rituals have been performed since ancient times. Offerings were left in fields & some burned to honour the Gods & Ancestors, thanking them for providing for our earthly vessels.
🌾This sacred mix of auspicious herbs has been blessed with whispered spells & prayers. Offer a sprinkle to the earth, or burn to bring prosperity & bountiful harvests. Be thankful for everything that you have in your life… but also thankful for all the things you don’t have.
🌾To start this old tradition of “plowing the field”, a young woman would be dragged through the crops, marking the start of Dożynki, & signifying that the harvest was over. Depending on what region you lived in this festival would start anytime from Aug 15 to Sept 23. When all the crops have all been gathered, the last bundle of wheat was picked as a symbolic sacrifice, & used for creating the Didukh (Grandfather Spirit who was thought to contain the benevolent spirits of ancestors who would protect the fields & home.)
🌾This wheat was also used for wreath making, as all the luck & prosperity for the following year to come were alleged to be contained in it.
🌾Women rolled around on a cleared patch of the field with the purpose of absorbing strength from the soil & finishing the harvest.
🌾Offer to your households land, sprinkle in your garden, or burn on charcoal & waft the smoke outside & in to bless your home & property & to act as an offering to attract Spirits, Familiars, & Ancestors into your sacred space.
🌾
🛖 The Tradition of Household Spirits: Ancestral Lore & Practices 🛖 Why do we hang horseshoes for good luck or place wreaths on our doors? Why does the groom carry his new bride over the threshold? These customs represent the last vestiges from a long, rich history of honoring the spirits of our homes. They show that a house is more than a building: it is a living being with a body & soul.
🛖 Examining the extensive traditions surrounding houses from medieval times to the present, Claude Lecouteux reveals that, before we entered the current era of frequent moves & modular housing, moving largely from the countryside into cities, humanity had an extremely sacred relationship with their homes & all the spirits who lived there alongside them–from the spirit of the house itself to the mischievous elves, fairies, & imps who visited, invited or not.
🛖 Shows how every aspect of constructing & keeping a house involved rites, ceremony, customs, & taboos to appease the spirits, including the choice of a building lot & the very materials with which it was built. Uncovering the lost meaning behind door & window placement, the hearth, & the threshold, Lecouteux shares many tales of house spirits, from the offerings used to cajole the local land spirit into becoming the domestic house spirit to the good & bad luck bestowed upon those who seek the help of the “Little Money Man.”
🛖 Drawing on studies & classic literature from old Europe–from Celtic lands & Scandinavia to France & Germany to the far eastern borders of Europe & into Russia–to explain the pagan roots behind many of these traditions.
🛖 Revealing our ancestors’ charms, prayers, & practices to bestow happiness & prosperity upon their homes, Lecouteux shows that we can invite the spirits back into our houses, old or new, & restore the sacred bond between home & inhabitant.
Examines how the ancient customs of constructing & keeping a house formed a sacred bond between homes & their inhabitants

💀Devoted to Death: Santa Muerte ~ the Skeleton Saint 💀 This book offers a fascinating portrayal of Santa Muerte, a skeleton saint whose cult has attracted millions of devotees over the past decade. Although condemned by mainstream churches, this folk saint’s supernatural powers appeal to millions of Latin Americans & immigrants in the U.S.
💀Devotees believe the Bony Lady (as she is affectionately called) to be the fastest & most effective miracle worker, & as such, her statuettes & paraphernalia now outsell those of the Virgin of Guadalupe & Saint Jude two other giants of Mexican religiosity.
💀In particular, the book shows Santa Muerte has become a Mexican Folk Saint & patron saint of drug traffickers, playing an important role as protector of peddlers of crystal m**h & ma*****na; DEA agents & Mexican police often find her altars in the safe houses of drug smugglers.
💀 Saint Death plays other important roles: she is a supernatural healer, love doctor, money-maker, lawyer, & angel of death. She has become without doubt one of the most popular & powerful saints on both the Mexican & American religious landscapes.

💀 Baba Yaga’s Baltic Green Amber Skull Ring 💀 She is wise & is all knowing, all seeing & tells the whole truth to those who are brave enough to ask. Do you dare enter the hut?
💀 Vasilisa walked all day, until at last she came to Baba-Yaga’s hut, which stood forbidding on its large chicken legs. A fence made of human bones surrounded the hut. It was crowned with human skulls. As the sky darkened the eyes of the skulls began to glow. Their light illuminated the forest. She trembled & wanted to run but her legs would not move. Almost immediately she heard a hideous noise. The earth shook, the trees groaned & there was Baba-Yaga, riding in her mortar.”
💀 Glowing as if on fire, Warm to the touch, & often containing insect fragments amber was believed to contain the very essence of life itself – the animating principle. It had associations with time, cycles & longevity. As it once was a living substance, it is related to spirit. Slavic people thought amber magical because of its warm feel, its lightness & luster. Some believed amber was the petrified tears of gods.
💀 Amulets were worn as protection from diseases & against being killed in battle. People believed that it “pulled out” disease from the body & “attracted” good luck, averted misfortune, kept its owner safe from black magic, cast out devils, guarded one from the evil eye, brought luck in love, & made it’s owner stronger & more clever.
💀 Green Amber makes up about 2% of all Amber found across the Baltic Sea. It is alleged to relieve depression, anxiety, and promotes joy.

🦋 Women Who Fly: Goddesses, Witches, Mystics, & other Airborne Females 🦋 From the beautiful apsaras of Hindu myth to the swan maidens of European fairy tales, tales of flying women – some carried by wings, others by rainbows, floating scarves, or flying horses – reveal both fascination with & ambivalence about female power & s*xuality.

🌱 Veneficium: Magic, Witchcraft & the Poison Path 🌱 Beyond their functions as agents of bodily harm, poisons have also served as gateways of religious ecstasy, occult knowledge, sensorial aberration, as well as the basis of cures. This book treats the occult parameters of poison, toxins, & venom, & their presence in witchcraft & allied magical arts.
🌱 Allied with Samael, the Edenic serpent of first transgression whose name in some interpretations is ‘Venom of God’, this facet of magic wends through the rites of ancient Sumer and Egypt, through European Necromancy, Alchemy, the arcane the rites of the Witches’ Sabbath, and modern-day folk magic.
🌱 The second edition of Veneficium is now properly contextualized within a trilogy of forthcoming books entitled Triangulum Lamiarum (‘Triangle of the Witches’), each of which concerns a specific ontological aspect of witchcraft.

👹 Between the Devil & the Host ~ Imagining Witchcraft in Early Modern Poland 👹 Through the dark glass of witchcraft Ostling explores the religious lives of early modern women & men: their gender attitudes, their Christian faith & folk cosmology, their prayers & spells, their adoration of Christ incarnate in the transubstantiated Eucharist, & their relations with goblin-like house demons & ghosts.
👹 Outside the imagination, witches don’t exist. But in Poland & in Europe & its colonies in the early modern period, people imagined their neighbours to be witches, with tragic results.
👹 For the first time in English, Michael Ostling tells the story of the imagined Polish witches, showing how ordinary peasant-women got caught in webs of suspicion & accusation, finally confessing under torture to the most heinous of crimes. Through a close reading of accusations & confessions, Ostling also shows how witches imagined themselves & their own religious lives.
👹 Paradoxically, the tales they tell of infanticide & host-desecration reveal to us a culture of deep Catholic piety, while the stories they tell of demonic s*x & the treasure-bringing ghosts of unbaptized babies uncover a complex folklore at the margins of Christian orthodoxy.
👹 Caught between the devil & the host, the self-imagined Polish witches reflect the religion of their place & time, even as they stand accused of subverting & betraying that religion.
🔥Black Madonna Wood Plate Vintage 🔥 Her image (Our Lady of Częstochowa) juxtaposes several ideals of womanhood: a powerful, heavenly queen, a suffering mother, a perfect nurturer…(the) scars a sign of suffering she shares with her worshippers. ~ Trochimczyk
🔥 Those that know me, know I love old religious iconography. I use saints & religious artifacts in my spellwork, & have no issues or qualms doing so.
🔥Black Madonna of Częstochowa will hear the calls of those with depression, one who is searching to fill the void, folks with fertility & menstruation issues, & people that need her guidance. She is a healer & the light at the end of a dark tunnel although she appears burned by fire she is filled with answers.
🔥The legend concerning the two scars on the Black Madonna’s right cheek is that the Hussites stormed the Pauline monastery in 1430, plundering the sanctuary. Among the items stolen was the icon. After putting it in their wagon, the Hussites tried to get away but their horses refused to move. They threw the portrait down to the ground & one of the plunderers drew his sword upon the image & inflicted two deep strikes. When the robber tried to inflict a third strike, he fell to the ground & writhed in agony until his death. Despite past attempts to repair these scars, they had difficulty in covering up those slashes as the painting was done with tempera infused with diluted wax.
🔥 Beautiful hand carved & wood burned vintage plate.
🔥 One of a kind when she is gone she is gone.

🌿 Welsh Witches & Wizards 🌿 The widespread belief in witches & wizards in Wales reflects a land steeped in legend & myth since ancient times. The witch’s power to harm people, livestock, & crops was greatly feared; for this reason country people consulted with so-called ‘cunning men’ & ‘wise women’ who had the power to negate their spells with counter-magic.
🌿 Cunning-folk practitioners were also consulted for love spells, to find lost property or missing persons, exorcise ghosts & banish evil spirits. The figures of both witch & wizard form part of a broader continuity in Wales. This popular belief in bears little relation to modern neo-pagan Wicca, & there is little evidence of its linkage to a nature religion based on a pre-Christian fertility cult.
🌿 This book describes the historically-attested Welsh practitioners of folk magic & witchcraft.. the Dark Sisters & the Toadmen, the Druids & Wizards, the Cunning Men & Faery Doctors & the charms & spells they used.
🌿 Also examined are surviving pagan beliefs associated with holy wells & the cult of the sacred head, & the mysterious & sometimes sinister ‘creatures of the night’ such as faeries, lake monsters, dragons & Black Dogs.

The harvest was one of the most important events of the year. It marked an end to the period of fertility, ruled over by the gods associated with these natural powers.
All Indo-European harvest traditions were quite similar. The last ripened sheaf of grain was considered to be sacred, and was treated in a special manner. It was believed to contain the power of the spirit or deity associated with the fields. Usually young women would braid the sheaf, or create some shape, and wrap the grain stalks in red ribbon, or decorate it in some way.
The activity of threshing was also a symbolically important event. The process of separating the edible part of the grain from the chaff was done at a special place that was considered to be sacred. In former Yugoslavian regions it was called ” gumno”. The threshing floor was circular in shape, often with a wooden pole in the middle of the room, which animals were tied to, and made to walk in circles, their great strength used to effortlessly thresh the grain. This was large powerful farm animals, like horses, oxen and other cattle. The next phase of this process was called winnowing. The grain chaff mixture was tossed into the air with pitchforks, so that the grain would be separated with the help of the wind. This was, in fact, the reason that the threshing room was built in windy places.
