A Tribute for Dr. John Ambrose: Trees, Butterflies, and Pelee Island

The story of butterfly recovery, one tree at a time. Join us for a keynote by Cherie Dillen, from the Pelee Island Butterfly Sanctuary and Teaching Garden. Remarks by Sean Fox, honouring botanist Dr. John Ambrose’s many contributions to tree restoration and forest ecology.

Keynote: Founder of the Pelee Island Butterfly Sanctuary and Teaching Garden, Cherie has set out to create an essential oasis of native host plants to protect and support the butterflies and numerous other species who find sanctuary on her restored land.
There will also be door prizes and a reception!

We are excited to share that Gryphon Athletics has entered into a three-year agreement with Syngenta Canada Inc. to continue the tradition of Aggies Night. Syngenta Canada Inc. will serve as the presenting sponsor for Aggies Night over the next three years. Syngenta has proudly supported the Gryphon men's hockey 'Aggies Night' game for the last two years. Beginning this year, both the women’s and men’s hockey teams will dedicate a regular-season home game to honour Canada's largest and most esteemed agricultural college.

Meet Kevin Piunno, a plant science graduate who pivoted his career from web design to advanced tissue culture.

Kevin manages the tissue culture lab at Roeland Farms, where he’s leading the way in growing ~200,000 strawberries annually for the Ontario greenhouse industry.

His work isn’t just about growing strawberries—it's about advancing agricultural technology to make farming more efficient and sustainable.

“Plant science combines a lot of different applied fields and it’s fun to be able to see (and sometimes eat) your results,” says Kevin.

Weaved through his research program are themes of public policy design and implementation processes, social movements and community-based activism, and adult education and learning.

He has also been involved in renewable energy co-operative development in Ontario and serves as a board member of the Canadian Association for Studies in Co-operation.
