💡Hub Alumni Spotlight💡

Last week the Wood Centre had the opportunity to present and connect with 100 high school students looking to learn more about the journey of entrepreneurship.

As a special feature, we invited Hub alumni Michael Sutton, CEO of Canadian BBQ Boys to share his story with the students. Michael worked with the Wood Centre in 2016 to bring his business ideas to life!

Zoe was the winner of a pair of custom, hand-painted shoes at our Breaking Barriers Creating Connections Event in the Fall. We partnered with Customs by Katie, a female-owned company that strives to boost self-confidence for their customers by offering a collaborative custom design process. 🎨

This company is also a proud John F. Wood Centre Hub Incubator Program graduate.

The Hub Incubator Program is run by the John F. Wood Centre and provides U of G students and alumni with mentorship, coaching and up to $4000 in funding to support their entrepreneurial goals.

Meet Domenique, a Guelph Engineering alumni and Founder of the Happy Era!

Her company makes high protein, low carb waffles - the perfect study snack for exam season. Each waffle contains 7g of protein, 3g of fiber and 13g of healthy fats.

Mohsen Kasiri is an International student, completing his Masters of Data Science, who first started a business of his own in Iran. Mohsen continued his experience as an entrepreneur in Canada through the Hub Incubator Program at . �
"It was a hard decision for me as an international student to think about going into the entrepreneurship world again. The newest thing to me is that starting a business from scratch is always challenging, even if you have previous experience of failure or success. One of the things that motivates me is that I can make the most impact on the world in my life by building a new digital product that impacts the user experience.”

The Wood Centre is excited to be attending the 3rd annual Lang Sustainability Conference! 🌎

This conference has brought together students across North America who are passionate about improving life and using business as a force for good.

As part of the delegate swag bags, the Wood Centre donated reusable produce bags - a great sustainable product for the grocery store to avoid using plastic bags when buying your fruits and veggies!

Meet Lisa Byers, an Indigenous entrepreneur who has had a tremendous impact in the community with their business,

Lisa was recently selected as a semi-finalist in the Pow Wow Pitch, a business pitch competition for Indigenous entrepreneurs.

Lisa is currently selling acorn diffusers as part of a fundraising initiative for the Woodland Cultural Centre in Brantford. Their goal is to raise $10,000 for a new language program called Cycle of Ceremonies, which will teach Cayuga.
