I help highly sensitive women overcome mental and emotional obstacles getting in the way of confidence, self-acceptance, and a life that aligns with who they truly are.

Here I am attempting to "keep my spirits up" during a very grey winter with my morning dose of fake sunshine 🔆, while drinking mulling spices (think orange peel and cloves with some rosehips thrown in) and reading through gardening books. Oh how I dream of spring 🌼. Why didn't I book a tropical vacation!?? But I must look on the bright side, which is that I'm feeling blessed to hibernate inside a warm and cozy home. 🏠

If I have to live indoors, I need to have plants in every room (even the bathroom) and lots of 'em! I absolutely cannot live without plants. Whenever I'm visiting a new place, the first things I'm looking for are trees, parks, forests or any kind of green space. Me and the plant spirits are in tight. 🌿🪴

I'm learning to make sourdough bread. I almost cried when the first one came out of the oven. 😭 Things were looking up by the third loaf though 🎉 The moral of this story is: don't give up. Perseverance leads to success!

Halifax Reflexology - Relax | Transform | Heal 10/23/2023

I'm retiring, and I would love to pass the torch on to another Reflexology Therapist who wants to carry Halifax Reflexology into it's fifth year of business.

If you want to be in control of your time and be the leader of your own life, this is a low stress opportunity. Plus, you get to offer a much needed service and transform your clients' lives.

I've had a steady stream of clients, with no marketing required. The website and online scheduler are done for you, and the automated processes I have in place make for very little administrative time.

Linens, supplies and office furniture are included. You'll have everything you need to get started.

Serious inquiries can be made through the contact form on my website only ( www.halifaxreflexology.ca ).

THE VAGUS NERVE (from )

A seemingly never-ending branching nerve that connects most of our major organs to our brain 🧠.

It’s the longest cranial nerve in our body, one for the right side and one for the left. And is largely responsible for the connection for its role as a mediator between thinking and feeling, you know our “gut feeling.”

The vagus nerve is the “queen” of the parasympathetic nervous system. The “rest and digest” or the nerve. So the more we do things to activate the nerve (like deep ), the most we combat the effects of its opposer, the sympathetic nervous system - the “fight or flight”, rushing around, have to do something, releasing one.

A few other functions of the vagus nerve, just to name a few:
▪️slows your heart rate and respiration.
▪️lowers blood pressure.
▪️helps with calmness and relaxation.
▪️controls involuntary muscles in the digestive system, therefore, aiding digestion.
▪️taste sensation.
▪️movement function for the muscles in the neck responsible for swallowing and speech.
▪️gut-brain communication.
▪️reduces inflammation.

Engage it with deep, slow breathing through your nose.

The impact of foot massage given to postmenopausal women on anxiety, fatigue, and sleep: a randomized-controlled trial

“It was determined that foot massage applied during menopause increases the average daily sleep duration (hours) and reduces women's fatigue and anxiety levels.”

Happy holidays, my friends, from our house to yours! I hope you are feeling at peace within yourself and planning time out to rest. 'Tis the season!

I am grateful to each and every one of you who came through my door and put your feet up at Halifax Reflexology this past year. You're all so lovely in your own way, and my life is enriched because of it.

*Special thanks to Alf & Jean's UPick at Scothorn Farms in Elmsdale for growing our tree this year! It's so fun to choose and cut our own tree. We're feeling cozy in here!

So I'm doing a SPRING CLEANSE. It's a great way to reset my eating habits after a winter of heavier meals and, let's be real, eating too much junk food. However, I still like to eat! And, I want it to be simple.

This is why I buy a 12-day cleanse kit, with a specific diet included (there is a link to it in the comments below). I've been doing the same one for years with great results. At the end, I feel lighter and clearer in body and mind.

Doing a cleanse is kinda like changing the oil in your car to keep everything running smoothly. It clears congestion in your colon and kidneys, which makes everything run smoother in your urinary tract, gastrointestinal system and liver. This makes it easier for the body to assimilate nutrients and eliminate waste.

I've included some pics of a few meals I've made for breakfast and dinner during the cleanse. Still lots of yummy choices even though I'm taking a break from things like sugar, flour products, and dairy (although butter is okay, thank God!).

Whether it's to stay in good health, to clear a congested system or to use after overconsumption, this detox program can be important to your continued health. For many, a detox is the beginning of a new lifestyle, and a time for breaking unwanted habits.

What's holding you back from doing your own cleanse?

Give yourself a time out and tune up your nervous system.

08/23/2021

This is an image of the human nervous system. In fact, we have 7,000 nerve endings in each foot alone that are connected to our entire nervous system. Incredible!

Our nervous system is co-regulating with the world around us every minute of the day. For example, the demands of your work environment and the people around you impact your nervous system greatly, as well as something like constant construction noise nearby.

Stress puts the nervous system into a state of dysregulation (fight or flight) and causes you to feel anxious, tense and ungrounded.

Often, we normalize the feelings of stress in our minds and bodies and don't even realize it. We just keep pushing through our days.

Time and time again, clients arrive and tell me they feel fine. It isn't until after they have a Reflexology session, when they feel grounded in their bodies and calm in their minds, that they realize they were more stressed than they knew.

The stimulation of the reflex points in the feet creates a calming effect in the entire nervous system (it's all connected!).

When your nervous system is calm, the body can then go into a state of rest and repair and work at healing itself. This is where we should be most of the time.

So make it a priority to reduce the stressors in your life. Let go of people, places and things that are a source of constant stress and tension.

Spend more time doing things that bring you calm, and with people that you feel good being around.

You have the power to create the life you want to live with the choices you make. Be brave and be good to yourself.

Lisa 🙏💚

I just moved to a new apartment at the beginning of August. I love my new home! But, wow, moving and settling into a new place is a lot of work! I'm really enjoying my flowers on the deck though. And my cherry tomatoes are coming along nicely. Grateful for a 5-minute walk to Halifax Reflexology as well.

This is as close as I've gotten to doing the "Wim Hof" plunge in freezing cold water.

If you're wondering what I'm talking about, watch episode two of The Goop Lab on Netflix (in other episodes, you can watch people do a magic mushroom trip, a woman having an or**sm AND learn what type of Intuit you might be). It's definitely an interesting series!

I relate to this imagery so strongly! It reminds me to steer clear of comparing myself to others, especially in a time when I'm working on my inner growth and healing. We all have our unique time when we're either putting down roots, spreading our leaves, or coming into full bloom, and these are all important aspects of our individual process. Go easy on yourself my friends. 🥰

11/15/2019

There was a period of time in my life when almost everything I said was extremely negative. In fact, I cringe when I think about it. 😬

To this day, I feel bad for the people who were close to me during this time, and I honestly don't know how they put up with me. 🙏

It wasn't even that things were exceptionally bad in my life. It's just that I wasn't looking for the good.

Truthfully, I was focused on seeing any little thing that was wrong and complaining about it.

Those were dark times. 👿

I'd like to say that I had some big awakening that catapulted me out of that state, but I can't.

The way it happened was incremental and I had to work at it, but it was actually a very simple act that I did for a few minutes every day on my own.

Now I know you're going to roll your eyes when I tell you how I did it (simply because this has been overplayed in the self-help industry)...
.. but I wouldn't bother endorsing it unless the theory actually held water after being put under scrutiny. 🕵️‍♀️

It turns out that it does! And there's scientific research to prove it.

Are you ready for the big reveal?...

The answer is...

Being GRATEFUL! 😮 🥳

And it's not as easy as you would think because our brains are naturally wired to look for the negative. From the dawn of human history, our very survival depended on our skill at dodging danger. It's a survival mechanism that helps keep us safe.

I'm not saying to ignore the danger, but I am saying that it's important for our sanity to balance it (or outweigh it) with seeing the good, the positive, and the wonderful parts of life. 🤩

✅ So here are three steps to becoming Grateful:

1. Keep a daily journal of things you are grateful for—list at least three. The best times for writing in your journal are in the morning as your day begins or at night before sleep.

2. Make it a point to tell people in your life what you appreciate about them on a daily basis.

3. When you look in the mirror, give yourself a moment to think about a quality you like about yourself or something you have recently accomplished.

Through the power of gratitude, you can wire your brain to be optimistic and compassionate, making you feel good.

The more you look, the more you can find to be grateful for. This positivity can extend to those around you, creating a virtuous cycle. Now go forth and Be Grateful, my friend! 🙏🥰

🆘 Feeling stressed? I've got a treatment for that! 😁

11/09/2019

All of this! I'm the Queen of Cosy & Comfort. In every situation, I'm asking myself how I can make myself (and others) more comfortable.

Also, I'm not afraid to ask for what I need (this is key), and it goes beyond the home...

Wobbly table at the restaurant? I ask our server to fix it!

Music too loud? I ask to have it turned down!

When you make these asks with calm sincerity, people are usually always happy to oblige. Try it!

Recognizing your own self-worth is a powerful way of giving yourself the love you want. 💝

I've heard extremely loved celebrities, with many fans, talk about this often...that all the external validation they received from others never gave them their own sense of self-worth. This must come from within. 🥰

✨ Feeling loved is an inside job. ✨

The reason why this is so important is because others' feelings are ever-changing. Humans can be moody and grumpy, which means how they are feeling and looking at the world is constantly changing. 🧐

❌ So, my dear friends, this is why you must not rely on validation from others to determine if you are lovable.

✅ This is something you must know inside yourself and carry with you everywhere you go.

Self-love needs to be cultivated and maintained. Like a garden, there's the planting of seeds and weeding to do. 🌱🌿🌷

🆘 You must make time to sit with yourself and become aware of the thoughts that are planted in your mind. Are they self-affirming or negative and self-sabotaging?

Once you identify those self-sabotaging thoughts, this is where the weeding and seeding begins...🆗

W**d out the negative and seed new thoughts about yourself that are self-affirming. Think about your life and all of the achievements you've made - big and small. This is how you will learn to love yourself for who you are. 🥰

Be careful of comparing yourself to others. This is not a competition. Each of us are unique individuals with unique experiences and NOBODY else has walked in your shoes. 🐾

You are special. Listen deeply to your highest self. This is the way you will get the love that you want, my friend. 🙏
