We opened in 2018 with a mission to make modern meditation accessible to every day people, every where. For over 5 years we have been learning, practicing, and teaching mindfulness tools that are approachable to everyone in our community.
Today, we had the honour of hosting Professional Development workshops for the teachers at , , and . The idea was to provide teachers with resources to incorporate more mindfulness into their classrooms. What a wonderful gift it is to equip children with the ability to calm their own nervous systems! We are so grateful for the opportunity to sit and share with the educators of Halifax's private schools today.

Today we had the incredible opportunity to share insights on mindfulness, breathwork, and meditation at the .canada ONE National Conference. spoke about stress and how these days, we can be in a constant state of it. When we exist in this state, our bodies are unable to rejuvenate and heal, leading us to burnout and dis-ease.

We lead conference attendees through a full nervous system reset, through shared mindfulness techniques, activating breathwork, and a calming guided meditation. It was an honor to explore how these practices can help us build the relationship between mind and body. It shows us that we have the inner strength to evolve and thrive in turbulent times.

We are absolutely thrilled to announce we are going to be hosting our fifth go.slow.retreat during the Harvest Moon on the North Shore of P.E.I!

and invite you to join in for this immersive experience to awaken your senses and nurture a deeper connection within and around you.

This retreat is a little more intimate, and a little more luxurious than our previous local retreats. So, you can expect to find balance between guided meditation and yoga classes (both outside and within the yoga yurt), hot tub and sauna sessions, nourishing meals, a stunning beach, and private hiking trails within the province’s nature capital.

We have both luxurious glamping options within one of the Mongolian Yurts, or in a beautiful cottage if you prefer the comforts of home.

Happy Earth Day! 🌎

Mother Earth is so good to us. Science continues to show us the benefits to health our planet provides, from immune boosting powers, anti-depressant effects, and promoting the relaxation response. Spending time in nature reduces anxiety and negative feelings like anger, frustration, and confusion - name a few. That relationship is reciprocal.

Earth Day was created to help people and organizations reduce their environmental impact. Today is a great opportunity to check in with your habits and commit to making even just one small change to contribute to the protection of our planet.

Perhaps this means purchasing food with less packaging, including recyclable materials and buying in bulk at zero-waste grocers. Or maybe conserving energy at home - turning off the lights when you leave a room and hanging your clothes to dry instead of using the dryer. Drop your Earth Day commitment in the comments below!

Mindful Monday ✨

We sat down with to discuss how meditation can better our lives. We talked about how the practice of mindfulness allows us to experience presence, not just in the mind, but the body as well. Seeing that we are whole, connected beings, is ultimately what it reminds us of.

Within this, we become closer to understanding the full spectrum of emotion that is a part of the human experience. Mindfulness meditation shows us everything changes and nothing lasts forever. The breath, the body, the pain, the joy. When we come closer to accepting the impermanence of life, we begin to reduce our suffering and become more peaceful. What a beautiful thing!

The truth is difficult to face sometimes. But once we are aware of the truth, we are one step closer to healing. Today is the second National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. It is a Canadian statutory holiday to recognize the tragic affect of the residential school system, to honour the survivors and the children that never returned home, and to acknowledge the intergenerational trauma that exists as a direct result.

Did you know that there were 140 federally funded residential schools across Canada that operated between 1867 and 1996? The last operating school existed here just 26 years ago. Perhaps, if you are non-Indigenous, just take a moment to imagine that..

Survivors rightfully advocated for recognition and demanded accountability, which is why the Truth and Reconciliation Commission was created. The commission made its final report in 2015, detailing 94 calls to action. These 94 calls to action provide those directly or indirectly affected by residential schools an opportunity to share their stories and experiences. Today, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a direct response to Call to Action 80.

At Flo Meditation + Wellness, Truth and Reconciliation is about slowing down and taking the time to listen, understand, honour and uphold the healing journeys of residential school survivors and their families. It’s about putting in the effort to build better relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. It’s about taking time to be immersed in the land and water where we live, work, and play, and take further steps to protect it. There is still a lot of work to do, but we’re optimistic we’re on a better way forward.

PRENATAL WORKSHOP ✨

Are you or a loved one expecting? Studies have shown that CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine) practices such as yoga, acupressure, meditation, and breathwork can improve labour outcomes, by offering pain relieving techniques, and reducing the number of medical interventions. Join in collaboration with at the on September 29th from 6:30-9:00pm for a prenatal workshop to explore CAM techniques to support you during labour and delivery. 

This workshop includes a discussion on the medical study showing efficacy in CAM in reducing interventions in labour, acupressure for cervical ripening and ease lead by and , and yoga poses, breathing, and meditation techniques for pain relief facilitated by and . Additionally, there will be a private promotional shopping experience at Halifax's new . You will leave the workshop with handouts with info on techniques, discounted treatments with StilSpace, and feeling more empowered and prepared for childbirth.

Today is National Indigenous People’s Day, a day to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures, and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

It’s about (re)conciliation among Indigenous and non Indigenous peoples to address the 94-calls to action. But really, has there ever been a peaceful relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in Canada, across Turtle Island?

Last week we worked with the Mi’kmaq Relations Team as facilitators for Kairos Blanket Exercise. Essentially, it is an experiential workshop that explores the history and relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada. For a moment, it felt like we were experiencing history from an Indigenous perspective. It helped us understand colonization in a way reading from a textbook could never emulate. It engaged the mind and heart in a way that helped us understand why our relationship is often broken and how to take action together.

Today is an opportunity to think about how we can take action and move forward in unity, and learn to co-exist and collaborate in healthy, mindful ways. It’s about appreciation, not appropriation (especially in the wellness industry). It’s seeking to learn, understand, and support Indigenous peoples and culture and it’s all apart of taking healthy steps forward. We are all treaty people.🧡

Okay okay! So we said that we would be launching our go.slow.flo 3.0 retreat but life got busy, we were travelling, and have been giving ourselves space to ground after returning back to Nova Scotia. It’s coming, we promise!

For now, we wanted to share some mindful ways we like to get back into routine after travelling:

1. SETTLE IN SLOWLY: Give yourself time to gently re-integrate back into your routine, especially if you’re experiencing jet-lag. This may mean extra early or late mornings, not getting back to your regular exercise regimen right away, and perhaps working from home, if possible.

2. PRIORITIZE UNPACKING: Having a clean physical space helps with mental clarity. We think of decluttering as an act of love, so unpacking your suitcase(s) right away and starting back fresh will feel really good. Having everything in its place before you leave will also help with transitioning back into routine after you return.

3. MEDITATE. If you didn’t keep up with your meditation practice while you were away, that is okay! Be gentle with yourself and take the time to get back into your regular routine. Notice how it feels as you re-ground after travelling!

This tips are tried and true after travelling lots with little ones and feeling the overwhelm returning home. Let us know your favourite ways to re-ground in the comments below!

Hi Everyone! Happy Spring! It’s me, Autumn. Our busy little baby Irie to my left is turning one this week! It means a lot of things, but one thing I wanted to share that I’m super excited about is that I’m getting back into teaching on a regular basis!

and I start our Breathwork + Mindfulness Meditation Training tonight. The program is online and is 8-weeks in length, with both an education portion and practicum requirement. We start the first of our weekly live calls from 8-9pm tonight. These will run every Tuesday eve with the intention to build community with the group, to practice intentional breath and meditate, and to have a q&a period. The rest of the content is pre-recorded for you to view on your own time.

The Wellness Escape was a rejuvenating lifestyle event we created in collaboration with and it was everything we had been craving.

The day devoted to wellness was located at in Nova Scotia’s picturesque Annapolis Valley.

Through a full day experience of movement, meditation, and holistic health workshops, we were able to sweat, reset, relax, and restore.

We completed the day with a 3-course gourmet meal with wine pairings from the culinary team at Avondale Sky.

The event was the first of its kind in Nova Scotia, including some of our provinces best mind, body, and soul facilitators and vendors. We are incredibly grateful for EVERYONE who made this event happen. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Enhancing Emotional Intelligence and Effective Leadership Through Mindfulness & Meditation

Practicing mindfulness enhances self-awareness, and our ability to self-regulate. It’s this practice that moves us from reactions based in fear to responses based in compassion. Mindfulness manifests as staying calm and composed in the face of adversity.

Through the practice of presence, there is an opportunity to develop our inner resources that will ultimately support us in showing up more powerfully, with more resilience, empathy, and kindness. & I believe that is how we can live into our maximum potential.

This week our co-founder had the honour of speaking at Conference, (up)rising. She spoke about using mindfulness and meditation as a tools for enhancing emotional intelligence and effective leadership. Mindfulness is an incredibly powerful quality when it comes to leading ourselves, and others. We see that as the real uprising.
