Research Nova Scotia invests in the next generation of health researchers.
RNS has awarded a total of $988,750 to master’s and doctoral students to help advance disease detection, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention, strengthen Nova Scotia’s health care delivery system, improve care for vulnerable populations, and prevent negative impacts to health and wellbeing.
“Our role in strengthening health care in Nova Scotia is to harness the imagination and expertise of the research community to help solve challenges that influence Nova Scotians’ health,” says Stefan Leslie, CEO of Research Nova Scotia. “The Scotia Scholars Award supports students who are contributing to health research now and who will help inform health care in the future.”

This work is part of ongoing research in partnership with the New England Aquarium, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, the Canadian Whale Institute, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and Duke University, and is supported by Genome Canada, Genome Atlantic, and Research Nova Scotia.

Leadership Fundamentals—An introduction to the basics of leadership theory, how to apply them, and an outline the various issues and topics that leaders need to be aware of in a modern context.

CHEM 1801 is an introduction to the basic chemistry of foods (proteins, fats, sugars) and their fates in the human body. Requirements for and effects of vitamins, micronutrients, and caffeine are also covered, as are chemical principals underlying preparation techniques including food preservation, processed food, and grilling and baking.
Prior coursework in mathematics, chemistry, or other sciences is not required. Homework consists of short assignments. Classes 3 hours per week.
Monday/Wednesday 11:30-12:45.
