Greetings!

Since Hamilton is heading into the grey zone as of Monday, classes are cancelled for at least the next couple of weeks. We'll post something when Hamilton classes start up again.

Port Colborne classes are still on board, however.

Greetings!

Mattie Sensei will be conducting Iaido classes Fridays in Port Colborne starting this week and continuing in January. Class will be from 5 PM to 6:45 PM.

Masks are required when entering/leaving the facility, but you may remove them when in your spot in the dojo.

Please email sensei for more details:

Iaidokas;

I am pleased to announce that Iaido will restart at the Hamilton Canadian Japanese Culture Centre Wednesday, October 7th.

Beginners - 5:30 - 6:45 pm
Advance - 5:30 - 7:30 pm

It is best if you are already dressed before you arrive. If not, have shorts (and t-shirt for women) and quick change in dojo. Only use bathrooms if totally necessary.

A mask must be worn upon entering the building but removed during practice if you wish. We have swords therefore we can maintain a good distance apart.

The dojo floor will be sanitized before and after we leave.

Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Any further questions, please don’t hesitate to email me.

Thank you and looking forward to practicing with you all.

Sensei Mattie

Please email Mattie sensei at [email protected] if you're new so that he knows you're coming and can bring enough equipment for you.

Congratulations to our fellow Iaidoka. :)

Congratulations to Team Canada Iaido for making our country proud by showing great competitive spirit and camaraderie at the 2019 East Coast Iaido Taikai.

As Yanagihara Sensei said in his closing remarks: “While we congratulate the winners for their success, we must not forget that without all those who participated, such an event would not be possible”

As a judge from Mudansha up to 4-Dan, I can add that without everyone showing such high level, competitive Iai, the Taikai would not be as inspiring and motivating for participants and spectators alike.

All-in-all, Canadians were able to bring home quite a bit of hardware:

Team Canada Members
(1D) Carolina Merizalde — Kantosho “Fighting Spirit”
(2D) Francis Domingo — Bronze
(3D) Warren Wagler — Gold (Haga Cup)

Team Canada Prospects
(2D) Kyle Kolodij — Kantosho “Fighting Spirit”
(3D) Cat Matchuk — Kantosho “Fighting Spirit”
(5D) Michael Hodge — Bronze

Other Canadians
(3D) Sandy Lee-Gonye — Bronze
(5D) Patrick Suen — Gold (Nakanishi Cup)

Thank you to Bruce Meecham, Hanna Ikeda-Suen, Phil Benoit, and Patricia McRitchie for showing great sportsmanship in closely fought matches.

If this group is representative of what we can expect coming out from Canada every year our future is bright.

Thank you all for making this inaugural delegation for Team Canada such an amazing experience.
