- Being part of this organization enables me to contribute to a community that values empathy, understanding, and healing.
-
- SACHA was one of the first calls I made after I became a survivor. Paying it forward in this way is a privilege that I’m honoured to have.
-
- Volunteering for SACHA allows me to provide crucial support and a compassionate listening ear to those in need. I am passionate about helping others and making a difference in their lives by offering a safe space for them to share their experiences.
-
- It is a thoughtful and empowering organization that examines root issues of sexual assault and violence, and aims to tackle these systemtic issues while also providing urgent crisis support, a necesssary service that is often overlooked and/or underfunded. Volunteering is not only fulfilling, it has also opened the doors to finding like-minded community members which lends itself to incredible volunteer support.
Big thank you to the local businesses (, .point, , .hamont, ) who are demonstrating support to SACHA and by taking part of our Support Survivors’ Summer Fundraiser. Please look through the slides to see how your purchases at these local businesses will be contributing to funds donated.
It takes a community to end sexual violence!

Why speak up about sexual and gender-based violence?
- We all have a role to play in ending violence -
To let survivors know they are not alone - Seeing someone speak out, whether it’s a loved one, acquaintance, stranger, or community organization can help survivors know that someone cares, someone will believe them and never blame them, someone sees them and isn’t afraid to talk about a subject that some people label as taboo.
To push for systemic change and support - When we talk openly about sexual and gender-based violence we raise awareness of the systemic nature of these violences and have more power as a community to advocate for changes and supports like increased funding to sexual assault centres and community action plans.
To change someone’s perspective - Challenging myths and misconceptions around sexual and gender-based violence can create a ripple effect where more people are examining their own biases and having conversations that lead to creating more supportive and knowledgeable communities.
To build community empowerment - When survivors see other people talking about sexual and gender-based violence they may feel more empowered to speak up themselves or reach out for support. When allies see people bravely speaking up it can give more people the confidence to join the conversation and encourage change.
Call it femicide. Barbara Church, a 77-year woman in Hamilton was murdered by her male neighbour.
Call it femicide. When we don’t we ignore the systemic components and interconnectedness of this violence.
Call it femicide. When we don’t we fail to recognize that women are disproportionately targeted based on gender and that there is an epidemic of gender-based violence in Hamilton and Ontario.
Call it femicide. When we don’t we lose sight of the fact that this violence is preventable and stems from misogyny.
Call it femicide. When we don’t acknowledge that it is real, how can we ever eliminate it? How can we honour those whose lives have been taken by gender-based violence? How can we advocate for change without acknowledging the problem and the cause?

All Survivors Deserve To Have Support
July is Disability Pride Month!
Ending ableism is necessary to ending sexual violence. Celebrating disabled people and recognizing their value, autonomy, resistance of oppression, and community joy is one way we can show love and solidarity this month. Mutual aid and community care are fundamental to building a world free of violence, work that we see disabled people doing time and time again. Let this month be a reminder that we can do better for disabled people by listening to disabled voices and advocating for systemic changes to end ableism. ❤️💛🤍🩵💚🖤
