Art in the Workplace (AWP) creates opportunities for Hamilton-based visual artists to display their Monday - Friday

Helen Sluis was born in Montreal & raised in Toronto, but has called Hamilton home since 1992. As a nature enthusiast & self-professed history geek, the city and its surrounding area drew Sluis in. Sluis is an archaeologist by profession. Mixed media pieces allows her a means of curating & displaying these found natural objects, using the changing seasons as a colour palette & displaying them on a background inspired by traditional handicrafts.
Jason Diesbourg invites us to step into a world of digital nostalgia where vintage tourism inspired art prints come alive with vibrant hues and playful compositions. Transporting us back to a bygone era, these captivating prints pay homage to the golden age of travel, blending hand drawn cityscapes, retro typography, and whimsical motifs.

Eric Marr is an artist who lives in neighbouring Haldimand County. Marr tells us, "My autism and vivid imagination give me a unique perspective for creating art. My inspiration is science fiction, different cultures I research online, ancient kingdoms and my own characters I call dogias and catias. When I create I become part of my piece and feel like I am part of that world. I love painting, it's my life."
Marybeth Leis Druery is passionate about being an active part of the Hamilton community and her art sales support the local charity, Student Open Circles, which engages over 300 McMaster students in weekly volunteering in the community and creates forums for students from diverse backgrounds to explore meaning, creativity, and social justice. These painting are titled "Breathe" and "In a Moment"
Edith Houde painted this comical scenario of a home haircut given by a father to the son during the time of Covid restrictions. Understandably the son is somewhat apprehensive. Of the painting she tells us, "You've Got This, Right?"

Artist Kevin Lee has been involved in visual arts since 1979 when he purchased his first camera. A life long Hamiltonian, Lee have always wanted to showcase the sights of our city.

Micheline Godbout utilized a photographic technique that falls in the impressionist genre and lends itself to the expression of hope and resiliency.
Artist Derya Kolcu's subject matter is traditional Turkish art. Kolcu tells us "I use traditional motifs on a locally hand-woven Odemis silk, to capture the excellence of 15th– 16th Century’s ceramic art on textile. It is such a joy to carry the trace of my countrys’ history through art to future generations."

This piece by Deb Mack was inspired by a visit to the New Brunswick. It is titled "Aliens have landed." Should you want to visit, it is "Cape Enrage Nature Preserve"
Alison Niccols has been creating art since childhood and has received training at the Dundas Valley School of Art and the Art Gallery of Hamilton over the past 20 years. She loves the vibrancy afforded by acrylics and often paints subjects reflecting her Caribbean roots.
Amanda Eberhard is a Hamilton artist experimenting with graphic and harmonious abstract paintings. Her goal is to create pieces that are intriguing yet functional decor pieces.
This painting, titled "Niagara Falls" is by artist Roger Westry. It is on display at McMaster Innovation Park as part of our 36th Exhibit.

Artist Hia Alhashimy wanted to explore the idea of ebbing and flowing organic shapes in nature. Alhashimy sought to convey the essence of the fluid movements and unseen "flow," connecting one life form to another.
William Richards has practiced art for many years. Currently, Richards is concentrating on plein air painting, using oil and smaller canvases. These two paintings were done at Fieldcote in Ancaster, and Port Rowan on Lake Erie's North Shore.
Bonnie Cook is inspired by nature, no matter what medium they are using. This wall hanging, entitled The Beach #1, is the first in a series where Cook tries to capture the feelings evoked by sky, sand and sea. It is titled "The Beach"
Dan Copeland has been an avid photographer since the 1970s. Photographing images from nature to architecture, microphotography to astrophotography and everything in-between. These photographs are part of our 36th exhibit, on display at Innovation Park
Artist Yicong He created this artwork using pencil, and it is titled "Mountain Top". He enjoys realistic pencil drawings

Adrienne Yeardye tells us, “The weight and smoothness of glass is an instant connection to that meditative space, where our memories can meet with our imagination, and inspire us to create future experiences of joy and wonder. This piece is an invitation to be worn or displayed, as a way to create an instant connection to the feeling of freedom.”
Jada Ewert has been drawn to drawing and painting since a young age. Ewert feels that having access to her mother's art studio and her lessons has given her the opportunity to grow as an artist. They are enjoying the outdoors, camping and hiking during their summers, so there are many opportunities to take pictures of nature, that I can be later painted.
Artist Robert Brownlie studied Art at the School of Art in the University of Manitoba with the intention of teaching art at the High School level. In his final year, Brownlie was drawn to a vocation as a Parish Priest in the Anglican tradition. Brownlie has been now been retired for over ten years.
Alex Schmaltz is a Canadian artist, born in Toronto, now living and working in Hamilton. Her paintings are full of whimsy and provide a glimpse into her world; she often creates works that speak to current events, pop culture, and mental health, as well as pieces that celebrate the beauty of life and womanhood.
This painting, but artist S.A.J. Davis, celebrates an unfolding awareness of the world, especially as observed in the gifts of their Pollinator's Paradise garden in Hamilton's North End. In the painting a Song sparrow sits in a Green ash tree [host to the Yellow Swallowtail butterfly]. Behind it is a Redbud tree [host to Leaf-cutter bees], and below a bathing Bluejay is surrounded by clover and grasses, Virginia creeper and grape, thistle, goldenrod and Solomon's seal that make up some of its July offerings.
This painting is by artist Mary Beth Rix, titled “Dark night of the Soul.” It’s a part of our 36th exhibit, now on display at McMaster Innovation Park.
Artist Tricia O’Connor has enjoyed teaching for over 30 years and has been painting for longer than that. "I enjoy going to the Falls any time! Any season! The majesty of the Thundering Waters always gives me a thrill."
Artist Micheline Godbout has spent years developing a style of colourful, contemporary quilts which transitioned to a similar expression in photography. This has allowed Godbout more time outside exploring their surroundings and challenging their ability to learn new skills. The Hendrie Valley Sanctuary, including its back ponds, is a continuous source of inspiration.
James Elliott lives within walking distance of Spencer Smith Park and its pier. Despite countless images of both, Elliott is continually amazed by their ever changing nature through the seasons, with the weather and of course the time of day. There is always something new to see and photograph.
Artist Marybeth Leis Druery tells us, “Painting connects me with a deep part of myself and the light that infuses everything. Listening to my life and the lives of others is vital to my creative process. As I create, I'm invited into the amazing dance of life.” This piece is part of our current 36th Exhibition, now on display at McMaster Innovation Park.
