It's time. From the day I started this little coffee roasting company, I've always said I would see where it goes and roll with whatever felt right. Now, the time has come for me to focus on other areas of my life. That includes some pretty exciting (and time consuming) education in my social work career. So sadly, the roasting has to stop.

I'll be taking orders until April 28th. You'll still be able to purchase Mariner Coffee at Cheryl in Colour and The Old Grind after that date until supplies last.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this business. Your support and encouragement has meant so much to me. And I've had so much fun!! If you've ever thought about starting a business and seeing where it goes, do it!

This afternoon I brewed a cup of coffee to get me through the afternoon. It was so good…a new blend I’m trying out. Seriously, every sip was like heaven. There are a lot of things I’m loving about my little roasting company, but one of my favourites is being able to have excellent coffee all the time. I never realized what I was missing until I started paying attention.

Oh, and I used my to make my delightful coffee today. If you haven’t tried it yet, I highly recommend it. Portable, clean, easy, and makes the best cup of coffee, hands down.

Chaff! Lots of chaff! As gardening season gets going here in northern Alberta, it’s a good time to know the benefits of chaff. It is high in nitrogen and can be used in soil, sprinkled around the garden, or in compost. It gives nutrients to plants and can also be used as a natural insecticide.

I have a lot of it and am happy to give it to anyone who would like some. Just DM me or contact me any other way you’d like to arrange pick up or drop off.

New beans!!!! Oh my, I’m ridiculously excited about these ones. It seems I’ve become a bit of a coffee nerd since starting this whole roasting thing; win for you because my nerdiness becomes your delicious coffee.

This new bean is the famed Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. I’ve been reading about it and hearing people’s descriptions of it so I just had to try it. Described as fruity and smooth with blueberry notes (I didn’t even know coffee could HAVE blueberry notes!), it’s one of the world’s best beans. Yirgacheffe is a region in Ethiopia and is considered to be THE birthplace of coffee.

Let me tell you, these beans are beautiful. Just about flawless. They smelled amazing during roasting and they look so pretty roasted. I’ve taken these little beauties to a nice medium roast.

I don’t have labels ready for these and I haven’t even tried them yet, but I’ll give you the rundown once I do. They’re not up on the website yet for purchase. Don’t worry. I’ll be sure to let it be known when they’re available.

Now to let the beans rest for a couple of days before brewing. Not sure my patience will last that long…

Sometimes life punches you in the gut and forces you to pay attention. Over the past few days, our family has received some serious gut punches that require my focus and attention. While it pains me to do this, I've decided to shut town the coffee roasting temporarily to put my energy where it needs to be. I'll let you know as SOON as we're back up and running. Hey folks! Anyone like extra dark French roast beans? I have some Peruvian beans that I roasted this week that were roasted darker than the usual dark roast. I tried them this morning and they taste great, beautiful nutty aroma with an abundance of full roast flavours. Definitely a strong cup for those who like some kick to their coffee.
