🌟 Happy Caturday, everyone! 🌟

It’s been a bustling week as we welcomed the second-to-last group of kitties from quarantine and two kittens that were in foster. They are pawsitively thrilled to be back in their playground and are playing up a storm with guests - it's a magical vibe round here at the moment! 🐾💫

With the quarantine space now empty, we're gearing up to move the six cutie pies from my home in for their ringworm treatment. We're getting so close to business as usual and we can finally see the lazer pointer at the end of the tunnel.

Talking of tunnels - brought in some fab tunnels and restocked our store with some beds - the tunnels were an instant hit and the beds, well, they are our cats favourite.

🐾 Hello, furr-iends! 🐾

First things first—a HUGE thank you for your patience in waiting for an update on how things have been going since we re-opened - we've been crazy busy organizing and unpacking all the meow-velous donations. Plus, all the kitty servants have either been under the weather or on vacation (even we need a little catnap sometimes), but we’re back in full swing now and ready to keep the feline fun going! 🎉

It’s been a bit of a cat-astrophe (in the best way possible!) finding homes for every tree, toy, and treat, but we’re finally pouncing on it all! 😺🎁 Our opening day was a tad quiet—just what we expected with the last-minute decision. But it was the purr-fect chance to ease back into things! 🐾 Since Sunday, we’ve been all paws on deck, and we’re over the moon to see familiar faces and new guests checking out our refreshed space and asking about adoption! 🏡💖

The cats are back to their usual fabulous selves and are absolutely relishing their new toys! 🧶😻 It’s been a joy watching them play and explore, and we can’t wait for you to see them in action.

Thank you for your understanding and for being such purr-sistent supporters. We’re grateful for each and every one of you and can’t wait to see you soon!

Introducing our cats of the week! We want to recognize not only who has been the sweetest cat of the colony, but also who’s been a little on the spicy side this past week.

For our sweet cat, we are featuring Bruno! He “celebrated his 1 year stay at Catelowna and is eagerly hoping this special day will lead to his adoption into a loving home!”

We spoke with Bruno, and here’s what he wants you to know about himself!- “I am a handsome boy just waiting for the right person(s) to come along and whisk me away to my only-cat castle. But, it’s important to know, the vet diagnosed me with IHMA last year, but I’m kicking its butt and am on the tail-end of treatment! So I’m willing to hang out with my Catelowna pals until I’m all finished up with my meds…unless you got what it takes to look after me and my condition. I love cuddles and face scratches and can barely contain myself when someone offers up some solo attention. If you are an experienced, patient and understanding human looking for a super friendly solo gentleman cat… here I am!”

And for our Spicy cat, who else but Stevee? He “misinterpreted the new baby gate as a challenge, will stop at nothing to knock it over.”

We spoke with Stevee , and here’s what he has to say for himself.- “I am a quintessential teenage tomcat with boundless energy and an irresistible charm. In my rambunctious teenage years, I’m always up to something—whether it’s playfully bouncing off the walls or racing around with a burst of zoomies before breakfast. Despite my wild antics, I’m incredibly affectionate and just a sucker for snuggling up on laps for some well-earned cuddle time. My friendly and playful nature makes me a lovable character who truly marches to the beat of my own drum!!”

We’re pawsitively thrilled to announce that your Cat Cafe is ready to re-open TOMORROW, Saturday the 17th! 🎉😺

Tests for the cats in-house are all showing negative - we took the right cats out at the right, precautionary, time. So, after a little break, we’re excited to welcome you back for 11 am opening! We have worked hard to tackle this pesky fungus and the kitties have triumph and are back in purrfect form. 🐱✨

🐾😺 Paws up, everyone! Many have been sending messages asking how things are going. We’re so sorry we haven’t been able to reply to each message individually. The truth is, we’ve been cat-astrophically busy with washing cats, cleaning and sanitizing, laundering mountains of blankets and towels - a whirlwind of fur-ocious cleaning. The kitties have been incredible, tolerating their shower washes like true champions and acting like the disarray around them is a minor inconvenience. They are more than happy to have the washes be over! The Forest and Quiet Room are all sparkling clean and sanitized and, today, we started unpacking some of the amazing amazon donations and putting some of the trees and scratching posts together. The work is paying off as we are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Whoo hoo!

We’re still formulating some details as we await some important test results. They should be in by Friday, and that’s when we’ll make the final call about opening...drum roll please...for this Saturday! We know you’re all itching to visit but we want to ensure we are 100% sure we are in the clear.

Fingers, paws, and tails crossed that we can announce re-opening for this Saturday! Stay tuned for the final update, and thank you for your patience and understanding! 😻✨

UPDATE: Mona is in a foster home. Yay!

FOSTER OR FOSTER TO ADOPT NEEDED. Mona was rescued by a Catelowa Team member from the streets of Dilworth. We took her to the vets to get her checked out....and there she has stayed while we have tried to locate her owner. She is not tattooed or chipped and there have been no responses to posts or posters. We are not giving up hope.... but in the meantime she needs to leave the vets!

Mona is about a year old. She is so sweet and affectionate. A confident and curious kitty who craves attention and love. We don't know if she is good with children or dogs....and we don't know if she's spayed! Vet suggests she goes to a home and we wait to see if she goes into heat. For this reason, if the home has a male cat he needs to be neutered.

Due to the situation at the cafe, and our quarantine, we have no safe space. Would you have room for this lovely girl? Help us work out what kind of kitty she is and what her ideal home might look like? Maybe it'll be yours? But maybe the owners will step forward in the meantime.

Look what arrived on our door step today! We’re absolutely floored....and overwhelmed with gratitude. A massive THANK YOU to everyone who generously donated and sent us boxes from our Amazon wishlist. Your kindness is beyond incredible, and the kitties are going to have so much fun with them.....and everything inside! 🐾🎁

We’re excited to dive into all the goodies, but for now, we need to wait until we have a more sterile environment to keep things safe for our furry friends. Once we are out of the thick of things, we’ll be sending out proper thank-yous.... but for now...thank you thank you thank you!

Dear Cat Cafe Family

We regret to inform you that Catelowna has had to temporarily close immediately and unexpectedly. As some of you with experience with animals and animal shelters know, ringworm is a very common occurrence. Even though we have tight procedures with new cat arrivals into our quarantine - and have caught and eliminated two cases in the last year – it has entered the cat lounge and we can only take a guess as to how it arrived. The health and safety of our guests and our beloved feline friends are our top priorities, so we are taking this measure until further notice.

If you visited our cafe just recently, we want to make you aware that there may have been a risk of exposure. Please monitor yourself for any symptoms and consult a healthcare provider if needed.

The Download:
- Ringworm is not a worm, it's a fungal infection. You might already know it by another name, Athlete's Foot. (Though it can appear elsewhere). It is contagious, especially between cats. It is, generally, transferred to humans through open cuts after encountering an infected animal. The good news is that it is easily treatable.
- We have refunded reservations, given credits for future visits, and a few kind-hearted individuals donated their refund. If for some reason you have not received notification, please email us as [email protected]
- We started a deep clean and treatment for the cats. Testing and treatment will continue until we have negative culture tests and can be confident, we are clear of it in order to re-open again. We put cats and people before profit.
- All adoptions are on hold until the cats test negative.

To say this has been devastating is an understatement. We were relying on the peak season business to get us through the slower months. We also had to throw all soft surfaces out, as a precaution; all cat trees…..including the flower!... toys, the armchairs! sisal rope climbing posts and anything else constructed of porous materials, are all gone. On a brighter note, we are taking this opportunity to refresh the space – maybe we will even finish painting the forest room wall!

One stand out is the Catelowna team of staff and volunteers. Even though all staff have been laid off, they are all coming in to help clean, sanitize and wash cats voluntarily. The help of volunteers has been incredible – Sumit, Renn, Iram, Claire, Mary-Anne – we couldn’t be doing this overhaul without you. My gratitude towards these stellar individuals cannot be expressed enough.

We spoke with Wool, and here’s what she wants you to know about herself!- “I’m a little panther with a big heart and a belly that loves to be rubbed! I will flip over for you in an instant. I’m a quiet kitty that spends most of my days sun bathing in the window or people watching from one of the balcony vantage points, as I’m still shy and timid towards humans. Maybe something to do with my rough start in life, but you would never guess I came to Catelowna as a wild and scared kitty as I am now loving and affectionate - I’ll be sure to call you over with some delicate meows”

And for our Spicy cat, who else but Houdini? He “Is not as good at card tricks as he thinks he is. (Magic escapes however, he is a pro)”

We spoke with Houdini , and here’s what he has to say for himself.- “You may notice my stunning green eyes as they pop next to my sleek, all-black panther style. I’m a clever escape artist who will thrive in a big, stimulating space. Whether I’m plotting my next adventure or cuddling up for some downtime, I will bring a playful and affectionate vibe to every moment. Despite my antics, I’m laidback and love nothing more than basking in a warm sunbeam. I’m currently mastering leash training to explore the great outdoors safely, and I adore children - they’re my favourite playmates, but honestly, I’ll take you all as my hooman cuddle bugs”

After a dramatic 9-day stay at Kelowna Veterinary Hospital, our furball is finally back home and ready to reclaim his throne (aka the comfiest spot on the leather stools)! 😺 It's been a "catastrophic" experience, dealing with those pesky stones and crystals, but now he's back with a desperate need for cuddles and chin scratches! We spoke with Sunset, and here’s what she has to tell you about it her and her daughter. - “You will notice my daughter, Sunrise, instantly. She is the most beautiful girl you will ever lay your eyes on, inside and out - she is just perfect. Sunrise is playful, affectionate, confident and will come to you asking for ‘upsies’. I absorbed all the trauma we have been through since her birth and even though I have started to relax since I have been at Catelowna, there is still evidence of my mis-trust of humans. What I really need is a calm, quiet, stable home we can call our own where my true, sweet personality can thrive.”

Sunrise and Sunset are still here! Yes, we know that is, in part, due to Sunset's Tortitude, but now she is all better she really is becoming a different kitty - we can pet her without getting side swiped, she is playful and rolls around with Sunrise all the time. They are definitely dependent on each other and have to go together.

Sunset's personality is shining each day. We believe, in a home, she will continue to calm down, start to relax further and could become a really sweet kitty. She is not really a first-time cat owner kinda cat - she needs understanding, patience, a delicate hand and consistency. However, for your efforts in rehabilitating Sunset, you will be rewarded by having the most perfect cat that has ever come our way - Sunrise is so sweet, playful, smart, friendly and affectionate......and absolutely gorgeous.

They are both spayed, microchipped, have two FVRCP vaccines, rabies vaccine, have been de wormed in the last three months and have tested negative for FeLV and FiV. Vet recovery fee for this is usually $700 for the both of them but Catelowna will chip in $100 towards this.

We spoke with O’Malley, and here’s what he wants to tell you about himself! - “I am beginning to be known as the ginger shadow - wherever you go, I will be right by your side, ready to lend a paw or bask in your presence. Life’s just purrfect when I’m snuggled up close, giving as much attention as I’m receiving - I will even love nibble you to show my appreciation. Quick to affection? Yep that’s me. With a gentle head bump or leg wrap, I’m in your lap and ready to share some purrs. Life’s too short to hold back on the cuddles, don’t you think?”

And for our Spicy cat, who else but Norman? He is “in his “Alpha Male” era. Probably dry scoops protein and has a podcast.”

We spoke with Norman, and here’s what he has to say for himself. - “I may have taken a bit of time to reveal my true purrsonality since I strolled in the cozy corners of the cat café, but hey, who can blame me? Life’s journey might’ve tossed me around a bit, leaving me a tad cautious. But fear not, for beneath this shy façade lies a heart of gold. Once you know me, you’ll find a sweet, courageous soul wrapped in a fur coat with the longest tail you’ve ever laid eyes on. Let’s create new memories, leaving behind the past, as we embark on a journey filled with companionship and purrs.”
