It was so hard to choose our Rotarian of the Year in 2023/2024 that we had three of them!

Congratulations to:
Lisa Cassidy
Paul Van Nest
Marci McMullen

Lisa was our tireless Director of Communications, overseeing expanding PR presence and updates to our website.

Paul took our Fraud Awareness campaign throughout the district, served as principal point of contact for many of our new members and candidates, and has the monumental task of maintaining all our records.

Marci spearheaded many of our fundraising efforts and through a Herculean effort (and turning her house into a warehouse to the chagrin of her family) transformed our Nut Drive from a potential disaster to an unprecedented success.

Congratulations, Lisa, Paul, and Marci!

Posting by request: “On Thursday my car ran out of gas on base on my way to work! A very nice gentleman named Richard pulled over to help me! And was so helpful! He was driving a newer white sedan. He gave me a ride to the MP station so I could let them know my car was on the road, then drive me to work so I could go from there! I forgot to ask for his contact info so I could properly thank him! He was dressed in a military uniform. I’m hoping maybe someone in the group knows him, or everyone could share to help me find him? If everyone could please share I would greatly appreciate it!”

50th Anniversary Moment
in 1996/97 Youth Diversion introduced two new preventative programs to KFLA. We had one of the first Suspension/Expulsion programs for students in Ontario. Students from Limestone District School Board and the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board attended SNAP (School and Non-Academic Program) to receive support and to continue their education. Rebound was a social skills program for youth. For 10 weeks, 20 youth and 10 volunteers would meet for 2 hours and learn more about communication, decision making and goal setting. Over the 27 year history, both these programs supported 1000s of children and youth living in KFLA. The United Way Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington played a key role in financially supporting these programs. Unfortunately, both programs are no longer being offered at Youth Diversion due to financial constraints. It is because of these financial constraints that we are looking to raise $50,000 to support our 50th Anniversary "Kids Can't Wait" prevention fund.

Xylazine is circulating throughout our communities! If you know someone who uses, make sure they don’t use alone. Because naloxone will not address the impact this tranquilizer has on a person's breathing, effects of xylazine may continue after naloxone is given. Call 911 immediately if you suspect an overdose and stay with the person until first responders arrive. Symptoms of Xylazine poisoning are listed below.
