We’re delighted we were able to support this initiative by Wintergreen Studios.
Wildlife in a Warming Climate: Learning to Take Action is a school-based program for junior-aged students which will be designed and delivered collaboratively by Wintergreen Studios and Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre over the 2024-2025 school year. The program focuses on how an understanding of habitats and ecosystems can form the foundation for taking action to preserve and re-wild local habitats. By learning about and engaging in hands-on projects to improve animal habitats, students will take an active role in helping mitigate the effects of a warming climate and, in doing so, foster hope for the future.
Thank you so much to Community Foundation for Kingston & Area (CFKA) for funding this initiative through their 2024 Spring Community Grants!

June 10th - 16th is Loneliness Awareness Week. There is an epidemic of loneliness in Canada. While loneliness can affect anyone, older adults are particularly impacted by social isolation, with profound impacts on their physical and mental health and wellbeing. According to the National Institue of Ageing, 4 in 10 older adults in Canada are considered to be socially isolated.
The good news? We already know the remedy for loneliness- connection. At our recent Rural Community Connections Event in Verona, participants brainstormed a number of solutions to improve connection in their communities. This week, take a look at their suggestions and consider how you might engage with these ideas in your own community.
Want to learn more? Register for Together Forward (June 25) where we will come together as a community to explore older adult's connection and belonging in KFL&A https://cfka.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/list/event?event_date_id=1594.
