Erin the A.T.
If you view movement as a valuable and non-negotiable part of life then Athletic Therapy is for you! My practice is located in Lethbridge, Alberta.
Hello, I am Erin, your friendly neighborhood Athletic Therapist. I have been a Certified Athletic Therapist since 2017, and a Fascial Stretch Therapy Provider since 2019. I enjoy playing in the dirt in my backyard vegetable garden, and will take any opportunity to go hiking, snowboarding, Olympic weightlifting or rock climbing. I am curious about trying new active endeavors, and currently that con
I am sitting here this evening knowing the morning of April 11th will be a tougher day than usual.
This is a photo of me with our U of Lethbridge's varsity medical staff gathered in remembrance of the Humboldt Broncos 16 lost loved ones - You can see we are wearing green ribbons with the initials D.B. on them - Dayna Brons was the hockey team's Athletic Therapist, the only female on the bus as well as a classmate of mine from A.T. school at Mount Royal University. She was the 16th and final individual to pass away from the bus accident on April 11, 2018, at the age of 24.
Sending extra care today to anyone who has also lost a loved one too soon. If you haven't signed your donor card and spoken with your loved ones about your wishes, then I hope you are moved today to do so.
Wishing everyone a Happy Easter break!
See you back on April 8th for regular clinic appointment hours. (Stay tuned for the new and improved online booking site and patient portal also launching April 8th!)
The experience that you have at your appointment matters to me. Having an injury can be a frustrating time, and so it is important to me that I can provide you with what you are needing most in that moment. Here is an example of how I aim for you to leave your appointment feeling. ๐
Erin did a great job of going through what caused my injury and what steps to take for recovery. They explained each step very clearly and went over what to expect in the short and long term.
โญI definitely left the session with a lot more of a positive outlook on my injury! ~Travis

I am proud to announce that I am partnering with !
I use Nuun electrolytes to proactively hydrate when I plan to move and sweat. My favourite flavours are Tri-Berry or Tropical. I'll be using them as I snowboard, hike, rock climb and chase adventures outdoors in 2024. What movement are you pursuing this year?
As always - keep moving, keep living and stay well!
2023 was a big year! Thank you for being a part of it with me.
I've been walking the long, hard and lonely road of a 1-woman Athletic Therapy business. Suddenly I don't feel so lonely when I am pouring my passion into something meaningful for a person in need.
Not many know what it's like to be an Athletic Therapist, let alone being self-employed. But if you have had a chance to experience an appointment with me, then I hope you find that you know what my values are and who I am as a practitioner a little better.

I hope you had a great Canada Day on native land, and enjoyed some celebrations in the beautiful weather (bonus points for no sunburn!) โ๏ธ
I am closed for the holiday Monday. Regular hours resume Wednesday!
So you're a Physiotherapist, but for sports, right?"
Close, but no cigar.
โญ๏ธThe "AT mindset" is a big part of what makes us a different breed. This is influenced by the sideline-clinic dual environment we work in.โญ๏ธ
1. An Athletic Therapists' approach to someone's (not always those who play a sport) pain/injury experience is different than a Physiotherapist, ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฒ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ผ๐๐ฟ ๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐๐ ๐๐ผ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ฝ๐ผ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐ ๐ผ๐ป ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐น๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ of a sport - but this applies to non-sport individuals as well...we are constantly visualizing what is going on throughout your day and how that is affecting you, whether we are on your "sport sideline" to see it or not.
2. Most Physiotherapists work in a clinical setting only, meaning ATs are the first to respond to acute injuries, and catch chronic/overuse problems early. ๐๐ง๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐ณ๐ถ๐น๐น๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฎ ๐ด๐ฎ๐ฝ ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ต๐ฒ๐ฎ๐น๐๐ต๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐๐๐๐๐ฒ๐บ before an ambulance can arrive.
3. Overall, physiotherapists are practitioners who treat disorders of the body that affect movement. This can be from medical conditions in addition to injuries that occur to the bones, muscles and joints. Imagine learning to walk again after a stroke or move your rib cage with breathing again after an open heart surgery. In contrast, an Athletic Therapist's scope of practice is specific to prevent, rehabilitate and recondition bone, muscle, and joint conditions.

Movement is most often an additional benefit to other things I am already doing, such as
1. Working on my mental health and challenging my brain's fear of heights
2. Getting social with friends and family
3. Getting out of town to a new environment where I can enjoy the peace and quiet of nature
These are a lot of strategies I use with the individuals I work with as well. ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐ต๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ถ๐ ๐ป๐ผ๐ ๐ท๐๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ผ๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฝ๐ต๐๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐น ๐ถ๐บ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ such as changing how much motion you have, how strong you are or what level your pain is at.
I'm really excited at how far I have come with my bouldering skills. A big thanks to and for curating a fantastic climbing experience and building an awesome climbing community here in Southern Alberta. I look forward to signing up for the intermediate climbing class they offer so I can keep crushing blue routes (and maybe even work on some orange ones!)
Spring break included going to Red Rock Canyon, Las Vegas. I learned how to belay other lead climber friends and was so inspired. Watching what my lead climbing friends were doing when they were lead climbing has me looking forward to giving it a go myself soon! Now to take a lead climbing course at .uleth
I am so thankful that Lethbridge is close to the mountains. Many memories have been made with friends and family at . I am always pleased with the family-run feel of this mountain and it's never a dull moment with the fantastic conditions they get. What a hidden gem.
The triple crown hikes of : Alderson-Carthew, Akamina Ridge and Crypt Lake. Though I have done Crypt and Akamina before, I am looking forward to completing all of them in the same hiking season!

Hello! I am Erin... a proud and passionate Athletic Therapist (AT). If you've made it to my page, thank you for your interest!
This photo was taken at a train station in Australia after rock climbing in the glasshouse mountains. (fun fact, I am half Australian!) I enjoy travelling, being active outdoors and spending time with family.
The reason I wanted to start this page was to help you to get to know me, and to give you a better understanding of why and how I could help you! (you might be surprised).
If you like learning about how your body works, or are curious to know more about AT and FST, then please follow along! Thank you for your support!

AT's are a bit of a different breed of healthcare provider than Physiotherapists.
Firstly, Athletic Therapists are found in both sideline AND clinical environments. This means that we are present on the sideline to keep athletes safe during training and competition. The second an injury happens, we are right there to help. Most Physiotherapists work in a clinical setting only. Some Orthopedic Physiotherapists go on to become "Sport Certified" to work sideline just like an Athletic Therapist.
Second, an Athletic Therapist's scope of practice is specific to prevent, rehabilitate and recondition bone, muscle, and joint conditions. Our best work is to not only return you to a pre-injury state, but also to prepare you for your return to activity where you feel fully confident and comfortable again. We are also trained as sport first responders for our sideline role.
Third, whether you play a sport or not, AT's specialize in preparing you for your athletic endeavours, whereas a Physiotherapist's scope of practice is more broad. There are other branches of physiotherapy outside of the most commonly known "orthopedic" physiotherapy, such as neurologic or cardiorespiratory physiotherapy. Overall, physiotherapists are practitioners who treat disorders of the body that affect movement. This can be from medical conditions like a stroke, cystic fibrosis, or a heart attack, in addition to injuries that occur to the bones, muscles and joints.
Athletic Therapists are a unique practitioner with a specific scope of practice, and so it cannot be billed as Physiotherapy. Check your insurance policy and see if "Athletic Therapy" is listed under the 'extended health' section of your plan.
If you are self employed, or have purchased your own health insurance, you can directly ask your insurance provider to have Athletic Therapy added as a practitioner under the "paramedical practitioners" list on the "extended health" section of your plan.
โIf you are employed, you will need to have your employer contact your insurance company to change what is available for coverage on your plan.
โFollow this link to see a general list of insurance companies that have covered Athletic Therapy in Canada. https://athletictherapy.org/en/public-resources/insurance-information/
I can answer this with another question. How do you define an "athlete?"
If you described someone as being "athletic" you would probably be imagining someone who is physically fit, and proficient at physically taxing activities. The real question is does "athletic" always have to be attached to a sport? You could be a farmer, hairdresser, world traveler...etc. and still meet this criteria.
Athletic Therapists are trained to fully understand what "athletic" demands are being placed on your body on a day to day basis. Athletic Therapists are also very good at understanding how your "sport" works because we spend so much time observing them from a sideline perspective. We really try to get in your shoes and see what you go through.
Being physically active is a "sport" and also a necessity of life. Everyone is an "athlete" in their own way, and for their own reasons.
AT's help active individuals get back to active things, no matter where that falls on the spectrum of life-athlete to pro-athlete. We are in the business of helping all walks of life to be lifelong athletes in a way that is uniquely meaningful.
