Building a wheelchair ramp to code is crucial for ensuring accessibility and safety for people with disabilities. Properly constructed ramps that meet building codes can prevent accidents and injuries, and provide an equal opportunity for people with disabilities to access buildings and spaces. Additionally, complying with building codes may also be required by law and can help avoid legal and financial consequences.

Happy International Women's Day! Today we celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women around the world. This day also serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight for gender equality and the continued need for progress towards a more just and equitable society for all.

This year's theme, "Choose to Challenge," encourages us to challenge gender bias and inequality, and to create a more inclusive world. It is a call to action for each of us to challenge ourselves and others to make a positive difference in the lives of women and girls everywhere.

Today, we honor the contributions and accomplishments of women throughout history who have broken barriers, shattered glass ceilings, and paved the way for future generations. We also recognize the countless women who continue to face discrimination, violence, and oppression simply because of their gender.

As we celebrate International Women's Day, let us renew our commitment to gender equality and take action to ensure that all women have the opportunity to reach their full potential. Together, we can create a world where every woman and girl is valued, respected, and empowered to pursue their dreams and achieve their goals.

DECK & BACKYARD CARPENTRY Part5

RAILING-

Deck railings are an essential safety feature for any deck project. They provide a barrier to prevent falls and injuries, as well as enhance the appearance of your deck.
Here are some important factors to consider when choosing deck railings:

1. Material: Deck railings can be made from a variety of materials, including wood, metal, glass, and composite. Each material has its own advantages and disadvantages in terms of cost, durability, and appearance.

2. Height: The height of your deck railing must comply with local building codes, which typically require a minimum height of 36 inches. However, some codes may require higher railings depending on the height of your deck.

3. Design: Deck railings come in a variety of styles and designs, from simple and traditional to more ornate and decorative. Consider the overall aesthetic of your deck when choosing a railing design.

4. Maintenance: Some deck railing materials, such as wood, may require more maintenance than others. Be sure to choose a material that fits your maintenance preferences and budget.

5. Installation: Deck railings should be installed properly to ensure maximum safety and stability. Be sure to follow manufacturer instructions and building codes when installing your deck railing.

In conclusion, deck railings are an important safety feature for any deck project. Consider the material, height, design, maintenance requirements, and installation when choosing deck railings for your project. With the right railing, you can enhance the appearance and safety of your deck for years to come.

DECK SURFACE- PART 4

Deck surfaces are an important aspect of any deck project. Choosing the right surface for your deck can impact its durability, maintenance requirements, and appearance.
Here are some pros and cons of common deck surfaces:
1. Wood: Wood is a popular choice for decking due to its natural beauty and affordability. However, it requires regular maintenance such as staining, sealing, and cleaning to prevent rot and decay.
2. Composite: Composite decking is made from a combination of wood fibers and plastic. It is durable, low-maintenance, and comes in a variety of colors and styles. However, it can be more expensive than wood and may fade or scratch over time.
3. PVC: PVC decking is made from 100% plastic and is highly resistant to moisture, stains, and scratches. It is low-maintenance and can last longer than wood or composite decking. However, it can be more expensive than other options and may not have the same natural appearance as wood or composite.
4. Aluminum: Aluminum decking is a lightweight and durable option that is resistant to weather and moisture. It requires very little maintenance and can be a good choice for areas with harsh weather conditions. However, it can be more expensive than other options and may not have the same appearance as wood or composite.
In conclusion, choosing the right deck surface depends on your priorities and budget. Wood is affordable but requires regular maintenance, composite is low-maintenance but can be more expensive, PVC is durable but can also be costly, and aluminum is lightweight and resistant to weather but may not have the same appearance as wood or composite. Consider your needs and preferences to choose the right deck surface for your project.

DECK & BACKYARD- step 3

FRAMING-

Deck framing is a crucial aspect of any deck project. It provides the foundation for the entire structure and ensures that it is sturdy and safe to use.

Here are some reasons why deck framing is important:

1. Structural integrity: Proper framing ensures that the deck can support the weight of people, furniture, and other objects without collapsing. It also prevents the deck from sagging or warping over time.

2. Safety: A well-framed deck reduces the risk of accidents and injuries, such as falls or collapses.

3. Longevity: A properly framed deck will last longer and require less maintenance than a poorly framed one. It also helps prevent rot and decay by providing proper ventilation and drainage.

4. Aesthetic appeal: Proper framing ensures that the deck is level and visually appealing. It also makes it easier to install decking boards and other finishing materials.

In conclusion, deck framing is essential for building a safe, sturdy, and long-lasting deck. Proper framing provides structural integrity, safety, longevity, and aesthetic appeal. It is important to ensure that your deck is properly framed by following building codes and using high-quality materials.

The Customers with the in-ground fire pit wanted a custom wood shed to match. This is the build, a comparison to my wood shed and the install. Also, I built an attic hatch out of left over material. The other one didn’t fit properly and you could see into the attic from my sons bedroom.

A 20’x17’ concrete pad we built for underneath a deck.
We expected to have 4-5 guys for the pour and ended up just Dan and I, 5 meters later…. Fortunately the finish didn’t have to be the greatest since a deck will be covering it up mostly.
