In the midst of the world's challenges, it's natural to feel a sense of hopelessness, as if darkness has prevailed. However, days like today serve as poignant reminders that there is still much to be grateful and thankful for. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ

Amidst the chaos, it's easy to be swept away, but these moments prompt us to pause, take a breath, and reflect on the things that fill our hearts with gratitude.

This summer is going to be AWESOME! Letโ€™s keep the commons clean for all to enjoyโ€ฆ

The South Alouette River draws tubers from all over the lower mainland each summer. The river is a great place to spend a couple of hours, cooling off and riding through some rapids. With the increase in river users, there are some habits being witnessed.
It is unfortunately quite common to see the river and banks littered with garbage and floaty debris. Many fish and wildlife live in this shared space and there is one easy step to eliminate unwanted litter: pack out what you pack in. In addition, there are some tips that will help protect other items that you bring with you from ending up in the river.
1) Purchase a durable tube, an inner tube from cars work great! With the intensity of the rapids, it is quite common that tubes wonโ€™t last the entire float.
2) Choose proper footwear that will protect your feet and the river! It is quite common to see single flipflops or crocs floating down the river or stuck in trees.
3) Use ties for your sunglasses and hats. Especially with the unpredictable nature of the river, it is common to tip over and loose them.
4) While it is fun to enjoy a cold drink on the river, please take the empty containers home with you!
5) You donโ€™t need to move rocks to enjoy cooling off in the river! Rock pools disrupt the habitat for fish as well as other species.
When visiting the South Alouette River and other rivers this summer, keep these tips in mind to make your experience more enjoyable while protecting the health of our rivers! The river is a beautiful natural place and by taking steps to keep it clean, it can be enjoyed for generations to come.

Today, millions of Christians around the world celebrate the fact that Jesus of Nazareth, a lower-class Galilean, from a low-working-class family, i.e. a common man, armed with a humble message of peace, hope, and love, conquered one of the worldโ€™s greatest empiresโ€”bringing it to its knees.

But, it is believed, not only did this common man, undermine the power of the great Roman Empire, but more importantly, he undermined the power of death itself.

Blessings to all todayโ€ฆ He is Risen! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ

One message we might glean from the story of Good Friday is this: Although the world may currently be experiencing gloom and doom, (with its wars and rumours of wars), and it may seem that darkness, having cast a long shadow, is prevailing over the light, we must not forget that despite all of this, that it is always darkest before the dawn.

And so, there is always hopeโ€”hope for better days, hope for a brighter future, and hope for new beginnings.

So grateful for the many blessings this past year.๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ I am very grateful for having had the privilege to run for City Council and for having met so many kind hearted members of this wonderful community. ๐Ÿ˜Œ

Like many of you, Iโ€™ve heard we will be facing significant economic challenges next year. Weโ€™ve all seen the price of groceries go up, our heating costs have gone up, and the bank of Canada interest rates, have also gone up. We might want to ask, whatโ€™s next?

May we not be dismayed. Weโ€™ve come through so much the last couple of years. I have hope in our community, and I believe that with the strength ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ of the Canadian spirit, together, we will get through any difficult time we face. โค๏ธ

May this next year be better than twenty 23โ€™s, (Michael Jordan of course ๐Ÿ˜‰)โ€”the greatest of all time!

Important info!!! Stay safe.

Road & Weather Update: Crews are fully deployed around the city working on the priority routes identified on the Cityโ€™s snow response plan which you can find here at www.mapleridge.ca/1230.

Snow is expected to continue to fall throughout the day ending this evening with accumulations of anywhere between 5 and 10 cm depending on where you live in the community. Temperatures will drop well below zero into the evening and overnight. Crews will stay on the priority routes until the snowfall ends, then move to secondary routes.

Please adjust your driving to the road conditions. Remember to clear your sidewalks as the snow falls to avoid ice buildup. Stay safe everyone.

I was glad to meet up with my good friend, Kris, to congratulate him on his Volunteer of the Year Award at the Friends In Need Food Bank! ๐Ÿ“ฃ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ

Afterwards, he put the kids and me to work putting food packages together for young children. They worked pretty hard. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ

As you know, this year, there is increased demand for food banks and their services throughout the lower mainland. ๐Ÿ˜” We are fortunate, however, to have The Friends In Need Food Bank and the wonderful volunteers working to meet this demand! โค๏ธ

Christmas can be hard on many families, but if you can, please consider donating some non-perishable items or making a financial contribution๐Ÿ’ต to this or any food bank this year. No child should go without during this time of year. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝโค๏ธ

This was a great launch to the 4th annual Glow event! And a great way to get into the Christmas festive mood. ๐Ÿ™‚๐ŸŽ

I had the chance to meet Rain Pierre, the
Katzie First Nation artist who designed the beautiful hummingbird installation unveiled on Saturday, as well as his production manager at Rainawakens, Kiefer Strautman, who helped build the project. ๐Ÿคœ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿค›๐Ÿฝ

Rainโ€™s father (Cyril Pierre) offered a moving speech that spoke to the need for us as a community to come together and his hope for the future of the youth. He mentioned that his desire is that they (the youth) would have the kind of childhood he wished he had growing up. โค๏ธ

Rainโ€™s personal & present journey is genuinely inspiring ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ, demonstrated in his artwork on display for our community. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ

Glow is a FREE event, and runs until Jan 6th, at Memorial Peace Park. ๐Ÿ“ฃ Be sure to check out this beautiful display of illuminating lights!!!

I was honoured ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ to have the opportunity to es**rt both The Consul General of Barbados to Canada, Ms. Sonia Marville Carter, AND The Honorary Consul of Barbados in B.C., Mrs. Marilyn Mosely to this yearโ€™s Celebration of Barbadosโ€™ 56 years of Independence, and Republic Day.

(The question many of you might be asking is: What are you wearing, Andre?

Iโ€™m wearing the Official Barbados Police Uniform ๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿฝโ€โœˆ๏ธ. So, I had an official rank AND duty to protect these amazing Barbadian delegates as they attended todayโ€™s various events ๐Ÿ˜œ).

We began the day with church service at Mary Pattison Chapel. Where Pastor D reminded the patrons to DREAM BIG ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ.

Then, we headed to the Pentab of BC Building in Surrey, where the festivities took place. Two of my favourite delicacies were on the menu, fishcakes and coconut bread. We were also treated to a live steel band that played some excellent music.

I want to say The Barbados Culture Association did a fantastic job putting on and hosting this event! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ

And a special thank you to Ms. Sonia Marville Carter (Consulate General of Barbados at Toronto) for spending the day with us as we celebrated our Independence and Republic Day. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ
