What is the best way to ease someone’s pain and suffering? In this beautifully animated RSA Short, Dr Brené Brown reminds us that we can only create a genuine empathic connection if we are brave enough to really get in touch with our own fragilities.

Introducing one of our many dedicated counsellors who will be volunteering their time to facilitate our once a month anxiety and depression groups.
Here is a little about Leia Briscoe:
Leia Briscoe Bio:
:
I have a diploma in Professional Counselling and am a recent graduate of Vancouver College of Counsellor Training in Vancouver. I have also worked as a certified nurse’s assistant, both in residential facilities and in home care, serving mostly the senior community, and people living with chronic issues affecting mobility, such as stroke, dementia, paralysis and end of life care.
My desire to study counselling was born out of a gap in services I see with people having their physical needs looked after, but not always in the way of emotional and mental health needs being adequately addressed. I would like to help “bridge the gap” so to speak, as I venture into the next step in my career in the helping profession. I believe people need more accessible options to counselling than what exists currently. People need to have better quality of life so everyone in society can thrive, not just get by.
I believe in using the person centered method, and also focus mainly on techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy, as well as compassion focused therapy.

Blanket BC’s 2019 AGM
We cordially invite you to join our Executive Team and to meet the people behind one of the hardest working nonprofit organizations in the Lower Mainland; Blanket BC Society.
Complimentary Applies and Beverages Served! 😋 THIS IS A FREE EVENT!
Our AGM’s aren’t like the rest. No boring meeting here. Every year we are grateful to be able to provide a special guest speaker/performer and this year is very exciting. We will be joined by non other than Bristish Columbia Country Music Association Recording Artist Duane Watson. A man who’s traversed troubled roads and who found a new lease on life through his music. Wether telling stories of the legendary train robber Billy Miner or of tales of his law-breaking days on the road, Duane will captivate you with his stories and charisma and show you just how anyone can change to the good, given the chance.
Don’t miss out! We’ll be accepting donations of warmth (blankets & clothing).
!
For more info please visit www.BlanketBC.org
Helping spread warmth since 2005, Blanket BC Society is a small nonprofit organization that continually collects and distributes blankets and warm clothing to shelter programs, families in need, emergency services, as well as First Nations and Indigenous groups. We continually foster awareness to homelessness, poverty and social economic issues while promoting volunteerism at an early age.
We're excited to introduce another dedicated counsellor to join our team, Michelle!
Here is a bit about Michelle:
It has always been my dream to help people and walking down some difficult roads I am now realizing that dream. I’ve learned a lot about myself through a divorce and raising 2 girls as a single mother. It was through my own counselling and personal learning, I was able to have healthy relationships with myself and others. I returned to the work force in an Addictions job and there it became clear that my path was to pursue the field of counselling. I graduated with a diploma in Counselling and a Certificate in Addictions from Vancouver College of Counsellor Training (VCCT) and am currently working in the Addictions field as well as having a private practice. My experience as a counsellor has shown me that you can change your life for the better and create a life that fulfills you.
Food For The Soul Program would like to introduce our newest counsellor to our team Leslee:
About Leslee
This isn’t a story about my diet gone wrong or an exercise program not adhered to, because that would be too long, too dry, and too boring. Besides they both end the same way consistently, over weight, out of shape, and disappointed in myself again.
This is my story about exercise, my love hate relationship with it, the positive mental health outcomes amidst the challenges of the anxiety it brings me. For years I have battled the craziest feelings when it comes to exercise from basic uncomfortableness to paralyzing fear and dread.
As a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor, Personal Trainer, and Fitness Nutrition Specialist I have made it my mission to help people quite the voice that keeps them from exercising.
It’s cold out there!

A little walk for a big problem!
On February 23rd, my team is walking in the Coldest Night of the Year - a winter fundraiser for people in my community who need my support.
We are walking for 10km at most - a little walk, really - but it's a big deal for the people we're supporting. Would you support my walk with a personal donation?

Within Coquitlam Bea's Kloset has given many women and girls hope. Here is a bit about the amazing organization that is, Bea's Kloset:
Article from 2014.
Bea’s Kloset is a “free store” for women and young girls transitioning to life on their own. Using household items donated by downsizing seniors, friends of Soroptimists, and other donors, our recipients will be able to ‘shop for free’ for the household items they need.
Over the past few months, we’ve been working with community partners and supporters to get “Bea’s Kloset” organized. With advice and mentorship from the SI Victoria Westshore Club, who launched Anney’s Closet in 2012, we are thrilled that the doors of Bea’s Kloset are ready to open.
Women and girls in our community can be referred to us from our partner social service agencies and have the opportunity to select items from Bea’s Kloset that will transform their new apartments into functional and comfortable homes.
We’ve had tremendous support already. While we seeded the project from our own fundraising programs, we are always looking for financial contributions and community support.
For full details, visit here or email us at [email protected].
Please note: We DO NOT ACCEPT large furniture items, clothing or toys.

EASTSIDE INTEGRATED YOUTH OUTREACH TEAM
facilitating positive change in our community.
Working with a vulnerable and often “pushed aside” population, the Eastside Integrated Youth Team includes two full time outreach workers, Matt and Mike. This program is funded through Vancouver Coastal Health, the City of Vancouver, and BC Housing. Attached to BC Housing funding, the youth team is able to offer a one-year housing subsidy for youth at risk of homeless, which has allowed numerous individuals they support to obtain and maintain market housing.
Outreach workers connect and engage with youth, up to the age of 25, meeting them where they are at. Early intervention is the key to building relationships with these vulnerable youths and assessing their needs, providing support through lay-counselling, reconnecting young people with family, encouraging them to work through the issues that brought them to the street is a focus of the work. Safety is a consideration that workers keep in mind when matching young people with other supports and services. The outreach team also provide individuals on the street with items needed to support their basic needs, which range anywhere from distributing food, water, clean clothes, or clean, unused harm reduction materials.
Watari’s Eastside Integrated Youth Team manages to maintain connections with services in the community that interact with youth but aren’t sure how to assist them in negotiating the systems that are specific to youth. Working collaboratively with Ministry of Children and Family Development, Vancouver Police Department, First United, Vancouver Native Health Society, Directions Youth Services Centre, Urban Native Youth Association, Vancouver Aboriginal Child and Family Services Society, Youth Unlimited, Covenant House, as well as countless other service providers, the team attempts to interact quickly and respectfully with young people to create pathways to employment, housing, education, or home.
Aside from street outreach, the outreach team facilitates a youth drop-in at Vancouver Native Health Clinic which runs every Wednesday. This drop-in is run in conjunction with the clinic, UBC medical students, as well as other outreach providers to provide youth with a hot meal, groceries to go, support, and easy to access medical care. The team also runs a youth driven community kitchen (Youth Ultimate Community Kitchen, affectionately known as Y.U.C.K.) in conjunction with Directions Youth Services Centre outreach staff on Fridays with a focus on building life skills, food sustainability, and connection to community.

Monique will be another one of our dedicated counsellors, using her skills and talent to co-facilitate our anxiety and depression support groups.
"Hey there, I’m Monique. As a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor I provide a safe space for dogs and their owners to walk through the therapy process together. I have been in the helping business for 8 years. I am passionate about working with dogs and their owners overcome their challenges. As a dog owner myself, I know how easy it is to put our personal frustration on to our dog. I also know that deeper, personal challenges can get in the way in creating the bond and desired behaviour you would love to get from your dog. Utilizing your dog in your therapy creates a balance for both you and your dog"

Welcome to our page!
We are a new program within BC looking for like minded individuals who wish to contribute to their community.
If you,re interested send us a message, lets build our community up. Make a change together for our community and our future generation.
We started our program with a community kitchen and it was a great experience for us all. We hope to continue Community kitchen events. Here are some images from our November 2018 Community Kitchen.
Turkey soup and Chicken cottage pie was on the menu that day. We donated the food to Lookout Housing & Health Society Emergency Shelter program in New Westminster. The Emergency Shelter Program opens to the homeless community during the cold winter nights. It is temporary and in need of community support as it is not funded like a typical shelter. Resources are scarce and in need of donations.
Each event we host we will promote a non profit. Who we support and where donations go to will be transparent. Our focus in community and our goal is to spread awareness of what our community non profits need from us.
