We are happy to announce that we have a new dentist in our clinic. Dr. Angelica Zykus, DDS graduated from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry in 2015 and has since been a member of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario. She practices in all areas of dentistry mostly focusing on wisdom tooth extractions and dental implant placement. In 2019, she completed an Implant Residency with the Institute for Dental Excellence. Dr. Zykus is passionate about continuing education to ensure the highest standard of care is provided to her patients. Once this has been decided the bone graft can be performed. For this the dentist will cut the gum at the site of the bone graft and create flap of skin. Why Would You Need Root Canal Treatment? Root canal treatment is needed for two main reasons. The first is infection. An untreated cavity is a common cause of pulp infection. The decay erodes the enamel and dentin of the tooth until it reaches a root canal. This allows bacteria to infect the pulp. Antibiotics can’t get to infections inside teeth. The inflammation caused by the infection reduces the blood supply to the tooth. The reduced blood supply also keeps the pulp from healing. Dental Bridges... When teeth are missing and there are teeth on either side of the space a bridge is the ideal way to replace the missing teeth. When there has been the loss of a tooth or teeth and there is a tooth on either side of the open space, replacement teeth can be attached to two crowns constructed for the 2 teeth on either side of the open space. This is called a bridge because it bridges the open space. To prepare a bridge, diagnostic models are taken to study the optimum way to perform this procedure. After studies are completed, the teeth used to attach the bridge are carefully reshaped. Impressions are taken and from these impressions, the bridge is made by a certified dental technician.
