After about 6 years of use, our old data server and routers, cabling, firewall, monitors, etc. are being replaced with more powerful and secure equipment to stay in sync with the changing times!
This major overhaul of technology at Applewood Village Dentistry started last Wednesday and is almost completed today, and the work has been done after business hours by GTA's premier IT services and support company, TTEC Computers Inc. led by Amit and Anthony, two trailblazers who bring bank-level IT security to medical and dental practices!
Undoubtedly, the entire weeklong process has caused our staff to be bleary-eyed and super tired, but we can be assured of top notch computer and server performance going forward backed by secure cloud storage of patient data and multiple redundancies for CISCO-rated security!
Thank you, dear patients, for your kind support and patience while we undergo this cutting-edge transformation to serve you better!
Any text messages sent to us via our dedicated texting service since Saturday are unfortunately not retrievable, and this service will remain unavailable till Monday, March 7th, 12:30 pm. Patients are requested to call the office instead.

As this year comes to an end and the holidays approach, we wanted to offer our sincerest gratitude for the continued support of all our patients and families and all our awesome staff and loyal suppliers. This year has been anything but normal, and we all have been pushed to our limits. Yet, we persevered and now are hoping for early and effective vaccinations in 2021 so the scourge of COVID19 is a distant memory of the past.
The office is now closed for the Christmas Holidays and will reopen Monday, January 4th, 2021 for regular hours. The province-wide shutdown announced recently by Premier Ford does not apply to regulated health professions like dentists and doctors. We will continue to provide full service dentistry in a safe and effective manner with full COVID19 precautions and modifications in place once we reopen in 2021.
We hope you take the time to relax, reflect, and enjoy the festivities. However you choose to celebrate, we wish you the best this holiday season.

Hello all patients and well wishers of Applewood Village Dentistry,
Today is June 1st 2020, and its almost 12 weeks of suspension of regular dentistry at the office, as mandated by the Chief Medical Officer of Health, to prevent the spread of SARS-COV2 virus which causes COVID19.
About 3 days ago, the Ontario Government revised Directive #02 and have allowed the restart of non urgent and non emergency dentistry all over the province, as you may have seen in the news on TV.
Although the Directive #02 has been amended, it is not yet business as usual everywhere. We are still very much in the grip of a serious pandemic.
Dentistry and physical distancing do not go well together. Dentistry happens in very close quarters and in fact, unless you open your mouth, no treatment gets done.
As our regulatory bodies lay down more concrete direction for the routine care to resume, we scramble internationally to gather hard to find PPE like masks and gloves and face shields and disinfectants to practice dentistry effectively and simultaneously prevent the spread of this virus.
We have always had high Infection Prevention and Control standards in our clinic since we started in 2008, and these are now being revised even further during the pandemic to fall in line or exceed the Ministry of Health directives.
The most important way to prevent cross infection and spread of this virus is stringent screening of patients over the phone and also when you arrive at the office, called Point of Care risk Assessment [PCRA]
In our sixth month of this novel Coronavirus pandemic, new concrete data is emerging that allows health care professionals and researchers to pinpoint probable cases of COVID19, especially the stage where infection can pass on to others.
Our staff will reach out to you a few days before your appointment and ask some specific questions about any health symptoms you may have, history of travel and contact with known COVID19 patients or associations with certain Long term care homes in and around Mississauga.
It is imperative that you answer truthfully.
Based on your answers and our Ministry approved rules, we will let you know if you will be scheduled for in-person dental care or if tele-dentistry is the best route to follow. Every patient will be assessed individually.
Once you are scheduled, you will need to wear a face covering when you arrive and perform a 20 second hand wash or use the Alcohol based hand rub provided in the reception area. At this time, our reception waiting room cannot hold more than two people at the same time. Besides a needed parent/caregiver where applicable, we suggest patients come alone for the appointment.
Not all services will be available right away; dental hygienists may be delayed as they have a different governing body.
During Wave 1 of this epidemic, we all did our part and flattened the epidemiological curve effectively. Each of us deserves a pat on the back. We hope the vaccines are out before a second wave of infections in late fall.
After a long hiatus, we all are eager to get back to work and provide needed services to all our patients as the province opens up.
As always, you may call the main office number for an appointment, use the two-way texting service or send us a message via our interactive website and we will respond as quickly as we can.
As we start rescheduling the huge backlog of cases, we urge patience from all of you and thank you again for choosing Applewood Village Dentistry.
-Drs. Sherin and Vipul Shukla and all staff of AVD.
June 1st 2020
Update: Monday, April 6th 2020: The province-wide Emergency declared By Premier Ford and the Chief Medical Officer of Health continues for the foreseeable future. Our dental practice, along with thousands of other clinics remains closed as we do not have the required fit tested N95 masks and other mandated PPE to provide even the Emergency Dental Care that a select few patients have called in about. These items were ordered as early as mid-February 2020, but there is simply zero supply from the distributors during this widespread pandemic.
In the meantime, our call forwarding service connects a caller to the office to our personal numbers and we are able to provide guidance and limited prescriptions over the phone directly to your pharmacist. True dental emergencies, as allowed by this declaration could include an injury to the mouth and face, severe infection (such as an abscess or swelling), bleeding that continues for a long time or pain which cannot be managed by over-the-counter medication like Advil or Tylenol.
If you think you absolutely must be seen by a dentist for any of the above, then please check this list of Emergency Dental Clinics that may have the requisite PPE to see you, and treat as required...

COVID-19: Ontario's dentists to only perform emergency services Dentists in Ontario have been ordered to halt all non-essential and elective dental services in response to the increasing number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the province. The Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO) issued a notice to their members on Sunday telling them that only emer...
NOTICE
As per the latest directive from Ontario Ministry of Health and Royal College Of Dental Surgeons, our governing body, all non-essential dental treatment has been suspended immediately to limit the spread of the novel Coronavirus causing COVID-19 through the community.
All appointments with the dentists and dental hygienists for the next two weeks are now cancelled, possibly longer.
We are at the stage of this pandemic where the virus is spreading within the community, even if there is no history of travel to affected regions of the world. This is called ‘Community Spread’ or “Lateral Spread’, and marks a turning point in the spread of this virus.
Severe restriction of social contact aka Social Distancing is a proven method to break the chain of spread. The practice of dentistry happens in and around the mouth and in close proximity to the patient’s nasal passage, and hence there is a very high risk of virus transmission, even when there are no symptoms.
Currently, no antiviral drugs work against this new virus and a vaccine is not available.
We will post regular updates on our office website www.applewoodvillagedentistry.ca and also on this official page.
Thank you everyone and may God be with us all.
