Even before her competitive years, Ann Shaw recognized the importance of volunteering. By 16 she was judging, which added to her understanding and love of Figure Skating, plus she liked helping. As a result, her commitment to judging became a lifelong pursuit.

Ann has officiated three times at the Olympic Games, was a Member of the ISU Dance Committee, participated on an Ad Hoc Committee in the development of the new scoring system and was awarded an ISU Honorary Membership. As a member of Skate Canada’s Hall of Fame she has been recognized for ‘dedicating her energy and effort to figure skating as a participant, official, educator and mentor’.

It is our goal to ensure that clubs and skating schools have the resources and information they need to effectively and successfully manage their volunteers. If you are involved with managing volunteers at your club or skating school please join us tomorrow, Thursday, September 12 at 7 PM ET for our next education session.

In this session participants will learn about a 7-Stage framework designed to look at the entire life cycle of a volunteer, starting from when a volunteer enters the organization to do a particular role or duty until the end of that specific role or duty. This framework encourages a consistent, organizational approach to volunteer management.

In this education session participants will learn about a 7-Stage framework designed to look at the entire life cycle of a volunteer, starting from when a volunteer enters the organization to do a particular role or duty until the end of that specific role or duty. The toolkit provides a framework for clubs/skating schools to use to create a volunteer management strategy, or process, at their local organization. This framework encourages a consistent, organizational approach to volunteer management.

This conversation is geared toward anyone involved in managing volunteers at their club or skating school.

Skate Ontario pair team Jazmine Desrochers and Kieran Thrasher kicked off their 2024/2025 international season off with a silver-medal finish at the first ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating event of the season in Riga, Latvia last weekend!

Congratulations, Jazmine and Kieran! We can't wait to see what the rest of this season will bring for this team.
