Lion City Restaurant
A Singaporean restaurant in Mississauga, Ontario. We draw inspiration from every corner of Singapore's culinary scene.
Lion City is a Singaporean restaurant in Toronto that celebrates the multicultural cuisine of Singapore and popular Southeast Asian street food. Curries from Little India, Gado Gado from Arab Street, Katong Laksa and the ever popular Hainanese Chicken Rice. In Singapore, we are passionate about food. It is held close to our hearts, much like how we do it at Lion City.
Hello folks!
We have been busy clearing out the restaurant the past few days in this sweltering heat ☀️ and have finally handed over the keys.
When the time came to leave the empty unit, we were filled with emotions but managed to take one last smiley photo!
We had so much fun running this restaurant. We will miss it, and we will miss you ❤️ but for now, a big break for us!
Wishing all of you beautiful people a happy summer filled with family fun and togetherness ❤️
We received so many messages, too many to reply individually. Promise once we wrap up, we will reply.
To address some things:
1. Many are concerned about us so we just want to say we are ok. In a nutshell, the margins no longer make this a viable business so we decided to stop. We don’t have plans but you guys will be the first to know if we do. We are deeply touched by your love and care 😭 thank you for thinking of us ❤️
2. The restaurant will close but community will always be ❤️ we will still be here for you if you need us. Our website will shut down but we will keep social media lines open. If you or anyone you know needs our help, their homesickness cured, needs support please reach out. If we can, we will help. Reach out anytime. Even if you don’t need anything! We will be following each of you too.
3. Many asked if we might do pop ups and we’re not sure but maybe. We will announce here if we do.
4. We have disabled online orders today as we cannot cope. This was one of the reasons we did not announce earlier as we weren’t confident of handling a surge. We’re sorry and wish it could be different.
All your messages makes us want to invite y’all to a big house party, organise a group hug and feed you all day! 😂
In the meantime, we feel all your emotions, all your love. Keep all the lovely memories coming. This was so special and amazing. This is what community feels like ❤️
There is no easy way to announce that we have decided to retire from the food business and tomorrow will be our last day of operations.
They told us running a restaurant is brutal, reserved only for the foolish and brave.
They are not wrong, but we think with our hearts and seeing you enjoy our food day after day, for the past 5 years has brought us much joy.
We put everything behind making this a truly authentic Singaporean restaurant. Some serious pressure halfway around the world! But 5 years in this business legit felt like 10 human years 🫠 plus throw in a global pandemic 🤦🏻♀️😅
Today our hearts are full and we are proud to have authentically represented Singapore and her food.
To our customers who have enjoyed our food and hospitality through the years, especially our regulars, thank you so much.
Thank you for making us a part of your weekday takeouts, weekend family dinners, celebratory feasts, last request meals (not even kidding) and everything in between.
More than anything else, thank you for your friendship, kindness and love 🥺 we will miss you all so much!
To our staff past and present, we are able to come this far and last this long only because of you. You stood by us come hell (50 degrees by the wok in summer) and high water (burst pipes!) 😂
A special shout out for our current crew. It is truly Murphy’s Law, but you guys are the best we’ve ever had. Thank you for always giving your all. Thank you for the laughter, the tears. We love you and will miss you so much 😭
Lastly, this business allowed us to spend so much time with each other. It was a dream and an absolute privilege ❤️
Experiencing the highs and lows of running this business and juggling family life has made us stronger together. We know that together, we can get through ANYTHING. We are forever grateful 🥹
The time has come now to focus and dedicate our time to family ❤️ Thanks for being part of our journey and memories to last a lifetime ❤️
Singapore food represented 🇸🇬,
Elle & Greg out xx
Every time we reopen after a long break, we are always super nervous 😬
Last night, you again showed your loyal support and we played to a full house.
Thank you for coming, thank you for your infinite patience and we’ve missed you too 🤗
Folks, we will be closed for a much needed break.
We will reopen on Thursday, Jun 15.
See you then xx
Rendang easily one of most ordered items at the restaurant.
Choose from bone in goat redang for full on flavour or our boneless beef rendang with fresh notes of kaffir lime leaves.
Both beautiful with a side of coconut rice or roti to polish off that sauce.
Spring colours, Newton Hawker Centre style!
Oh Luak or oyster omelette—starchy, eggy, oystery with a sour and spicy chili dip 🦪🦪🦪
We were mentioned in THE !!!
Our restaurant career is complete. Can retire now 🤣
Thank you 😘 and www.twitter.com/onishinyt 🧡
Closed today, Friday March 3.
For many, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has triggered strong emotions.
As business owners we try to remain neutral to most political and social causes that we stand for in our personal lives.
The war however has impacted us and our business in more ways than one.
While we anguish at crazy and soaring food prices caused by the war, it is nothing compared to the suffering of innocent civilians killed or injured in indiscriminate attacks and the heartbreak of families suddenly uprooted from their everyday lives.
We have come to personally know Ukrainians who have become an invaluable part of the Lion City family. To see and hear their pain is to know and feel the atrocities of war.
We laugh with them, cry with them, and today we stand with them ❤️🇺🇦
Closed Thursday Feb 23.
Mee Siam is a traditional dish from Southeast Asia, particularly in the countries of Singapore and Malaysia. The dish consists of thin vermicelli-style rice noodles stir-fried with spices, chili paste, and other ingredients such as beansprouts, shrimp, and tofu. The sauce is made from tamarind juice, giving it a sour and spicy flavor.
The exact origin of Mee Siam is uncertain, but it is believed to have been introduced to the region by Thai and Peranakan (Straits Chinese) immigrants.
In Singapore, Mee Siam was commonly sold by street vendors and has now become a staple dish in hawker centers and food courts.
Stay safe out there!
A lovely review! Thank you Bacon is Magic
UPDATE TO OUR OPENING HOURS
Ever since COVID came and upended all of our lives, we have been working to rebuild our team.
We are happy to announce we are finally able to open more days and longer hours.
Starting Tuesday, Jan 10, we will open Tuesdays to Sundays from 11.30am to 9pm (last order at 8.30pm).
On behalf of our crew at Lion City, we wish our customers and friends the peace, love and joy this holiday season brings.
Thank you for the support this year through snowstorms and life’s uncertainties ❤️
There is ONLY one thing you need on a day such as this one.
LAKSA 🍜🍜🍜
We will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
Look out for our new extended opening days/hours in the new year!
Today, a customer told us that they have been eating at the restaurant since it first opened and that our satay is the best she’s ever had. It’s what keeps her coming back ❤️
We have been tweaking our recipes from the day we bought the restaurant and believe we have perfected our satay.
Our satays are grilled to order, the meats are seasoned with aromatics and spices for 48 hours, and our spicy peanut sauce made from scratch by first roasting the peanuts!
We had the cutest, next generation, Lion City customers come today in their Halloween finest.
How cute are these little pumpkins 🎃???
Did you know we sell fresh noodles?
If you want to attempt your own hor fun, char kway teow or a simple homemade kway teow soup, order fresh kway teow from us!
Come in for our Laksa but stay for our teh tarik, our traditional milky pulled tea. Dreamy creamy during sweater weather days.
Also check out our vintage coffee cups for sale, air flown direct from Singapore.
Back to regular programming!
but
They were not joking when they said be ready for ANYTHING in this business 😔
Wok dishes are not available until further notice.
Will update when we have better news.
We’re back from summer vacay just in time for sweater weather otherwise know as Laksa Season!
We promise, Laksa and us are both made for the cold 🍜 ❄️ We hear it’s gonna be chilly tomorrow. Stop in and slurp up a bowl or two!
❄️☃️ ☃️🙏
Lion City insiders know how not to miss us so much 😉
Sambal tumis - made with shrimp paste, dried chills, and a ton of onions, and other secret ingredients. Loving stirred on the lowest fire until the neighbours are super envious.
You guys killed it today 😅
We ran out of food by the end of the day 🤦🏻♀️
Last day tomorrow before we go on summer break 🌴☀️🍉⛱🌊
Last few days to catch us before we go on our summer break!
Pro tip: order our fried bee hoon SPICY!
Happy birthday Singapore 🇸🇬 and warm National Day greetings to all Singaporeans especially those away from home 😍 🇸🇬
We purists when it comes to food, but this Vegan Laksa converted us.
When you try our Vegan Laksa, you will realise its easy peasy to go plant base.
