Hi folks! Welcome to this new journey that is 2022. π
Last year was a rollercoaster for many of us. So much happened that it's hard to believe it was all in one year. We started up this account, met amazing folks like you, launched a website, got a business plan in order and registered as legit!
We also realized along the way that our goals were bright and shining and a tad too ambitious. It may be another year or so before we are able to start building. As it stands we need $15,000 in startup to qualify for our local business loan, and it could take a while to get there.
That's our 2022 New Years Goal = raise the capital! ποΈ
And so we will work towards that goal! It's a brand new year with brand new opportunities, and we are thrilled to be surrounded by our little community while we reach for the stars. Thank you for being here with us and supporting us. May this year be filled with new conversation and connection. Can't wait to see what 2022 will bring!
What are you looking forward to this year? Let us know in the comments! π

It's a beautiful, sunny day day here on Vancouver Island!
Our favourite sun-day thing to do is get out into nature and play. Whether it's a challenge hike, a casual stroll, or a two-wheeled adventure, there's nothing better than fresh air and warm rays on your skin!
When we're up and running, we will be serving you yummy beverages, snacks and food to fuel all of yiur your sunny (and rainy) day adventures. Can't wait for that day to come!
What's your favourite way to spend a sunny day?
So, about our new logo π
Have you ever gone through the process of designing a logo? Man, what an interesting challenge. To create a single thing that captures your brand and will translate well onto web, print, merch, business cards, and all the things you don't know you're going to do with your business yet... I tell ya, It's no easy task.
That's why it's SO good to work with a designer who can take all the bits and pieces from your brain and translate it into an image.
This one, our Hunch Cafe logo, is from the beautiful mind of π₯°. After hours and days of back and forth-ness (and many iterations - all due to my wanting it to be JUST right π€¦π½ββοΈ) we landed on this, seemingly simple design.
The outer "square" is an ancient Egyptian symbol, meaning "home." When presented this to me, I instantly felt that this was Hunch Cafe. Clean and simple, but unique and intriguing, with a fun history. It is also an ancient form of the letter B, which I found fitting, since we were moving from "honeybeen cafe" to Hunch Cafe (we, too, used to be a bee π). "Hunch" sits snugly into this tiny "home", which is exactly what we are. A snug little tiny cafe, where hunches are born.
What are your logo design stories? π
We've been a wee bit quiet over here these past few weeks. We've been working on something very exciting - a new name! π
Introducing Hunch Cafe!
Hunch - noun. a gut feeling or guess based on intuition, something you are sure is true, even if you don't have proof.
i.e. "I've got a Hunch this cafe will be an uber success." π
Why the change? Well, we had 2 main reasons.
First, there seems to be a few great cafes out there with the name "honeybeen" or "honeybean" already, and we don't want to dampen anyone's fire.
And second, Hunch Cafe has always been on my mind. "Hunch" is how I personally live my life. I had a hunch I could travel on my own, for a couple of years - and I did. I had a hunch that Vancouver Island would be my spot - and it was. I had a hunch about good people to bring into my life, paths to take, things to say yes to and no to, and every time, my gut has known best. I've also had hunches that I didn't follow, only to realize I should have.
Cafe's are birth places of hunches. They are where ideas spark and catch fire on backs of napkins. Where they are are shared, nourished and have platform to thrive. They are a gathering hub for sharing, connection, and collaboration. A safe, chill space where everyone comes to feel relaxed and warm and welcome - a place of rest.
We can't wait to see what hunches you come up with in our tiny, lovely space! We may be a ways away from opening our doors, but we are here, gathering intel and learning all that we can to provide the best possible experience for you - our community.
We are excited to have you with us for the ride π₯°
Oh! And we have a new website π check it out! www.hunchcafe.ca

Have you ever taken a social media break?
This past week without notifications or scrolling was just what the doctor ordered. More time reading, going for coffee, going for walks, cooking, listening to cool podcasts, and (gasp!) chatting with real humans in real time! Also stopping to play with allllllllllll the cute doggos, like this guy π who's blind but SO happy - look at that smile.
I hope spring is treating you all well!
π β
Well folks, our party has ended, and we didn't reach our funding goal. We knew it was a stretch when we started just 40 days ago, but if you know me then you know I'm all about whole-assing everything (none of that half-assing garbage).
I want to thank you all SO much for your support throughout our campaign. It means a lot to know that you guys think our project is cool, viable and one that you want to see come to life!
What's in store for us now?Β
Well, I am going to sign off social media and screen time for a wee little break ;) but then I'll be back to keep you updated over the next year or so as we keep this train moving! Next up is finishing our business plan and cash flow projections, and then talking to lenders to see what's possible. Recipe testing, building connections with potential vendors, chatting with BC Parks about getting into some awesome locations...it's going to be a busy and fun time. We're also working toward having an official 3D design mockup made this summer!
I read a great little book recently, called YouΒ², by Price Pritchett. He talks about shifting gears from trying harder to trying differently, and reframing your "problem." So while I will continue to work hard (it's ingrained in me!), I am going to also focus on looking for new perspectives and ways of doing that could open doors I can't even imagine yet.
I refuse to let doubt take up precious real estate in my mind, and I will continue to act as though my success is for certain. It may not be November of this year, as originally planned, but honeybeen cafe is definitely coming to a trailhead near you!Β
And please don't be a stranger, I'd love to keep in touch with you all. We're on Instagram,Β Facebook, or atΒ honeybeen.ca.
As Price Pritchett said, you either risk taking a leap of faith or you risk settling for a fraction of what life has to offer you. I hope you all choose the risks that lead you closer to the life of your dreams.Β
Catch you outside β

Often times we don't start because we can't see the steps to get where we want to go. It seems too big or too hard. But the funny thing is that action creates motivation, and the very act of starting something, enables us to see what's possible.
We've got 11 days left on our campaign - it's all or nothing, baby! For realsies. If we don't reach our goal by our goal date, all your lovely donations will go back to you. We have a long ways to go, but we are excited to see what these last few days bring!
Keep sharing, keep talking, keep keeping on πͺπ½

honeybeen newsletter Did you know that I drew up a storyboard for my Kickstarter video? A 2-page, 29 clip, comic-like drawing, that outlined the gist of what I wanted to film. Let me preface that with the fact that I am not an artist...I quit art school in year 3, and that was for photography, not drawing. When I decide...
