911 is an important tool for any emergency situation that requires immediate assistance from the police, fire department or ambulance services.

Significant resources are wasted when individuals call 911 for non-emergencies or, fail to respond to officers once a call has been made to confirm the matter is not an emergency.

When a call is made to 911 and the caller hangs up, officers must still ensure that the individual’s safety is intact by calling back; this is important protocol to be mindful of.

In the event that 911 was called by accident, you are not in trouble. Please remain on the line, or answer the police call back so officers can confirm that it was simply an accidental call.

We were on campus today raising awareness for IDERD and Human Rights and asking students what actions can they take to end racial discrimination in our community. We had really great discussions with students, here are some of their responses:

- Show how beautiful different cultures are so people will be more accepting and loving!
- Learn about the immigration process, and learn how much work people have to do to immigrate to Canada.
- Improve access to public transportation.
- Build solidarity within the Indigenous communities and support international students and immigrants, and LISTEN!
- Organize events that foster understanding and connections with different cultures.
- Educate yourself! Be kind! Think before you speak!
- If you witness any kind of discrimination try your best not to normalize it and try to not let it happen.
- Equal rights in employment.
- Educate yourself, receive training and read books by BIPOC authors.

Let us know in the comments what action you can take to end racism in our community!

The Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is observed every year by the 2SLGBTQA+ community and allies to honour the memory of those whose lives were lost to anti-transgender violence. An annual vigil and reading of names of those lost to anti-transgender violence within that year, happen the night of TDOR.

Happy Diwali!

Diwali is a Hindu, Sikh, and Jain festival of lights that is observed in the days before, during, and after November 12th. Diwali marks the Hindu beginning of the New Year and the celebrations vary regionally and amongst families and communities. The main day of Diwali is marked by prayers, chants, the exchange of gifts, lighting diyas (lamps) and fireworks to fill the night sky with light.
