☀️The weather is getting nice and you've decided to start walking. Here are some tips to get the most out of your effort:
✅Get outdoors. We benefit greatly from a dose of Vitamin D from the sun, and the fresh air helps to clear any mood.
✅Get into the woods if possible. There is scientific proof that being among the trees & in nature, helps to destress the body & mind.
✅Walk like you're late for an appointment. Move a little quicker to get the heart pumping & your lungs working a little harder. (Yes you should feel a little sweaty - ladies ;))
✅Do some off-roading. Getting off the sidewalk & onto some uneven ground helps to improve your balance & leg strength.
✅Invite a walking partner. Studies show that people who have good social connections have better health & improved life expectancy.
✅Walk daily. If you are just beginning, aim for every other day and work your way up to daily walks of 30 minutes in length, for maximum health benefits.
✅Track how you feel. Make note of how you feel before you begin your new routine, and in a few weeks review any changes you might notice. When you see progress it's easier to keep up with the habit.

When we think about planning for our retirement we think finances in order to make our retirement dreams a reality, but do we think about having the healthy body and mind to enjoy our retirement dreams? I've seen far too many people get to the age when they have to freedom to do all the things they want to do, but they don't have their health.
Begin an action plan now, to create 'wealth in your health'!
🚶‍♀️💪Get moving your body to build strong muscles and prevent injuries.
🥩🥦Eat whole, unprocessed foods that support a healthy mind & body.
🫒Include healthy fats such as olive, avocado or coconut oil, nuts & seeds to maintain a healthy brain.
💧Drink plenty of water.
😴Prioritize sleep, aiming for 7-8 hours per night.
It's easier to invest in building and supporting your health while you still have it, rather than trying to rebuild it once you lost it.

Plank and variations of the plank are some of my favorite core exercises. If you've ever experienced this exercise, you know that it engages multiple muscles and gets the heart pumping if you hold long enough :)💪💖
If you want improved core strength, to work on your 'hour-glass' figure, have better balance and improved posture, add this to your practice.
Even if you have back issues, there are ways to modify this exercise to benefit you too!

We really need to take the time to read ingredient labels and not just the 'sales job' on the front label.
Learn about those ingredients that are causing gut issues, inflammation and more.
Knowledge is power.

This is one of our favorite places to destress in the middle of the day. There is nothing better than fresh air and moving your body to put things into perspective and give you fresh focus.
We like to add in this hill to get the heart pumping for the added cardiovascular benifits.

A healthy brain means we are less likely to become a burden to our family as we age. Interestingly, the same habits that help to prevent cognitive decline also contribute to our overall health.
Studies continue to show:
✅The more muscle we have the heathier our brain.
✅Healthy fats are required for a healthy brain.
✅Sleep and stress management are major factors in overall brain health.

Yep! This is me. I love my coffee, ☕but I also listen to my body. I know that if I have more than 2 cups a day I start getting symptoms like muscle cramps and upset tummy🤢. I know that if I have it after 2 in the afternoon it will affect my sleep.

My sister-in-law shared this with me and I thought you might enjoy the concept:
In an evening class at Stanford University the last lecture was on the mind-body connection - the relationship between stress and disease.
The speaker (head of psychiatry at Stanford) said, among other things, that one of the best things that a man could do for his health is to be married to a woman; whereas for a woman, one of the best things she could do for her health was to nurture her relationships with her girlfriends.
At first, everyone laughed, but he was serious. Women connect with each other differently and provide support systems that help each other to deal with stress and difficult life experiences. Physically this quality "girlfriend time" helps us to create more serotonin - a neurotransmitter that helps combat depression and can create a general feeling of well being.
Women share feelings whereas men often form relationships around activities. We share from our souls with our sisters, friends, and evidently that is VERY GOOD for our health.
He said that spending time with a friend is just as important to our general health as jogging or working out at a gym. There's a tendency to think that when we are "exercising" we are doing something good for our bodies; but when we are hanging out with friends, we are wasting our time and should be more productively engaged.
Not true. In fact, he said that failure to create and maintain quality personal relationships with other humans is as dangerous to our physical health as smoking!
So every time you hang out to schmooze with a gal pal, just pat yourself on the back and congratulate yourself for doing something good for your health!
We are indeed very, very blessed!
So let's toast to our friendship with our girlfriends (including grandmas, sisters, mothers, nieces, cousins, aunties... ).
Evidently it's very good for our health !💕

Happy New Year!
The end of a previous and beginning of a new is often a time of reflection and planning. In reviewing 2022, I feel this phrase "Progress over Perfection" is fitting for me. I have spent far too much time waiting for something to be perfect before moving forward, and then I never move forward. So for the coming year, my motto will be to move forward imperfectly and improve as I go.

As women we often wear a lot of hats, and feel guilty if we say no to someone. I see this all the time, as women come to me after they are retired, or after the kids are grown, ready to finally take care of themselves. I encourage you this Christmas season and for the coming year, to give yourself the gift of booking time for some self-care. Even 10 minutes a day of quiet reflection can go a long way to maintaining your health and your sanity. 🌲🛀

Weight loss and improved health is more than just exercise and limiting food intake. If your body is in a continual state of stress either from emotional or physical factors you will find the journey slow if not non-existant. Addressing some of these ideas can get you on the road to your destination. Look at your health 'holistically'.
