Emsella is one of our favourite adjuncts to optimize pelvic health 🙌 Pairing this state-of-the-art technology with pelvic floor physiotherapy helps you maximize your results... But why?
Optimizing the outcomes of Emsella is greatly enhanced with the guidance of a pelvic health physiotherapist. Prior to undergoing Emsella treatments at Corelife, a pre-treatment internal exam can be performed by our pelvic health physiotherapists to establish a personalized baseline, ensuring a targeted and effective treatment plan for our clients. Post-treatment, internal exams are great progress markers! These check ins help our team refine rehabilitation strategies based on observed changes in pelvic floor strength and functionality. This collaborative approach merges the benefits of Emsella with the specialized insights of a physiotherapist, empowering individuals to actively engage in and reap the full rewards of their pelvic health journey🤍
To kegel or not to kegel?🤔
Kegels are often prescribed as the go-to exercises for all pelvic floor concerns. It is important to understand that kegels done right can help strengthen the pelvic floor - but often times, concerns arise from an over-active/tight pelvic floor musculature.
A holistic approach to pelvic floor dysfunction includes normalizing pelvic floor muscle tone, addressing lifestyle factors, functional core and pelvic floor training, and correcting faulty breathing mechanics and posture. A pelvic floor physiotherapist can help design the right program for you to help address each of these areas.
So, instead of trying to do kegels on your own at home, we always recommend getting a proper assessment to determine the cause of your concerns! A tailored treatment plan from a pelvic health expert is always going to help you achieve your goals faster & more effectively 🤝
When should I see a pelvic health physio during pregnancy?🤰
There are many benefits to working with a pelvic health physio during pregnancy, even if you don’t particularly have any pelvic health concerns. If this is the case and the goal is to improve pelvic floor health, then anytime after the 20th week is a good time to start!
In the case of any concerns, such as involuntary leakage, pelvic girdle pain, or pain with in*******se, the pelvic health therapist can help you even in the early stages of pregnancy. The sooner the better!

Mastering the art of pelvic floor activation can be a tricky task. Try following these tips!
✨Correct activation of the pelvic floor produces a squeeze and lift - so think of drawing the muscles together and then upwards towards the belly.
✨When activated properly all three areas of the pelvic floor are engaged - muscles around the urethral opening, the va**nal opening, and around the re**um. Breath holding and straining down are common mistakes when trying kegels, so be sure to watch out for this!
✨Breathing comfortably and try visualization (ex: picking up a ping pong ball at the va**nal opening) to help avoid these mistakes.
Ever wonder why you leak when you sneeze? This is a common symptom of Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI).
51% of women dealing with pelvic floor dysfunction have SUI. Needless to say this is quite a common condition. It occurs when there is an involuntary loss of urine during activities that increase intra abdominal pressure, such as sneezing, coughing, laughing, jumping, or lifting heavy objects.
SUI can occur for a variety of different reasons, but most often it is due to lack of fitness and function through the pelvic floor muscles. Getting these muscles assessed to figure out why they aren’t responding to pressure increases appropriately is a great first step to treatment. From there, we craft our clients a care plan based on their needs to get their pelvic floor back in working order 💪
Although SUI is quite common, it’s important to remember that it is not normal at any age! Send us a DM to learn more about treatment options🤍
Did you know that 1/2 women over the age of 50 have some degree of pelvic organ prolapse (POP)?
We know this is an intimidating statistic, so let’s start by explaining what pelvic organ prolapse is -
POP is a functional problem where one or more of the pelvic organs (bladder, uterus, re**um) descend or “bulge” into the va**nal canal. In more severe grades of prolapse, tissue may even protrude outside of the va**nal opening.
How does POP happen? You have three layers of muscle along the base of your pelvis (aka the pelvic floor) and ligaments that are there to support your pelvic organs and keep them in place. Over time, due to a variety of factors, this support can be compromised, resulting in pelvic organ prolapse.
Common symptoms of POP:
✔️Pressure or feeling of fullness in the pelvis
✔️Urinary incontinence or retention
✔️Difficulty with bowel movements
✔️Discomfort or pain in the pelvic region
✔️Feeling a pulling or aggravation in the pelvic region
✔️Feeling like something is “falling out” of your va**na
✔️Feel like you’re sitting on a golf ball
✔️Sometimes, no symptoms at all!
The severity of POP can vary from stages 1-4, with 4 being the most severe. If you suspect you may have POP or have never been assessed for it, schedule an appointment with a pelvic health physiotherapist for a full assessment! There are a variety of conservative treatment options available🤍
Reviews that make us tear up🥹 We feel so honoured to support our amazing clients!
