Dr. Kate Dupuis, Schlegel Innovation Leader in Arts and Aging at Sheridan’s Centre for Elder Research, combines her passion for the arts with her expertise in psychology to explore the health benefits of creative pursuits for older adults.

Through a collaboration with Artfull Enrichment Inc., and with the support of the Retired Teachers of Ontario (RTOERO) Foundation (RTO), Dupuis is bringing virtual art-making opportunities to Canadians 55+.

As the first official photographer of India’s national governing body of kickboxing, Honours Bachelor of Photography student Tanishq Arun is already setting records at the age of 22.

But his most impressive achievement in photography might be helping his father curate a collection of more than 4,000 vintage film cameras — setting a Guinness World Record for the largest collection of unique film cameras in the process.

Growing up around his dad’s collection of vintage film cameras, Arun fell in love with photography, sharing that his “favourite part of photography is the ability to capture and communicate a moment.”

The world-record camera collection includes cameras as large as 12 feet long to as small as a Canadian loonie, and include models that were used to take the first photo on the surface of the moon and portraits of ancient kings.

Sheridan students, Liam Pickell and Arjan Chahal are among the first to receive the Schulich Builders Scholarships for Skilled Trades. Thanks to this support, Pickell is thriving in the Welding and Fabrication Technician program, while Chahal is exploring his passion for plumbing in the Mechanical Plumbing Techniques program.

Both students are grateful for the opportunity to focus on what they love, and encourage others to pursue careers in the skilled trades, where the demand for talent is always high.

From teacher to Special Constable, Sheridan Alumni Nazia Murrad's journey is a testament to following your passion at any age.

After earning her Master's in economics and working as an elementary school teacher, Murrad immigrated to Canada and pursued Sheridan's Police Foundations program. At 53, she became a Special Constable with the Ontario Provincial Police, proving that it's never too late to chase your dreams and make a difference.

On August 9, we observe the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples to raise awareness of the rights of Indigenous Peoples globally.

Since contact with settler nations, Indigenous Peoples have negotiated distinct and legal rights to self-determination and self-government. Their rights have often been violated, making them some of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable groups in the world.

This year’s theme, “Protecting the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in Voluntary Isolation and Initial Contact,” reminds us of our collective responsibility to respect and uphold these rights.
