🎥The Métis Nation of Ontario is hosting a virtual Powley Day presentation to share the history of the Powley Case and its continued importance across the Métis Homeland.

🎥The documentary that will be played during this time is called Métis Hunt for Justice: The Powley Story. Powley Day commemorates the landmark Métis rights victory at the Supreme Court of Canada in R v. Powley, 2003. This historic decision recognized the Métis as a distinct Indigenous people within Canada, paving the way for full Métis self-government. On this day, we honor the entire Powley family and reflect on the profound impact the Powley decision has had on the Métis community.

Did you know there are Treaty Signs at all three campuses? 🪧🪧🪧

Sheridan’s Trafalgar Road Campus in Oakville and its Hazel McCallion Campus in Mississauga are covered by Treaty 14, the Head of the Lake Purchase, signed in 1806. Sheridan’s Davis Campus in Brampton is covered by Treaty 19, the Ajetance Purchase, signed in 1818. Both of these treaties were signed between the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Crown.
