It's on Monday and a nice time to engage your child in activities that help to develop skills, with a heart shaped theme!

Some ideas to try are:

- cutting out hearts of all sizes from construction paper to hang in the windows
- using stickers to decorate homemade cards for the special people in your life
- baking cupcakes and using the time to learn about measuring ingredients

We hope your Valentine's Day weekend is full of sweet moments!

Kids with ASD can often find it hard to deal with the change in weather and temperatures.

Finding a routine that helps your child to build skills in winter dressing, understanding the types of clothing needed for cold weather and also the reasons why it's important helps them to build the independent skills they'll always need.

Winter dressing is not always an easy task, but one that takes patience and lots of extra time too (!). How does your child do in winter dressing?

How has your ASD child reacted to going back to school? Whether they're going in-person or virtually, the inconsistency of the school year is hard for any child to understand and manage over time.

Tips for helping your child through challenging times:

- Try to plan and stick to a routine that everyone feels good about (including you!)
- Reach out for support from other caregivers, family and external services
- Go with your gut - if you feel like something isn't working for your child, be empowered to find another way

What other tips do you have for our community? Please share!

We often will help kids build their vocabulary using picture cards.

Picture cards help kids learn about all the things in their world - what they look like, what categories they fit in, how they work.

This type of play helps to build learning and functioning skills with repetition and memory at work!

And you as parents and caregivers are just as worthy too. Take a moment for yourself this weekend.
