Today is a magical day! β
It's International Drag Day! Today, people come together to embrace their love of drag by hosting drag shows, parties, and other events to celebrate the day. It is a day to recognize and appreciate the drag queens, drag kings, and every drag-identifying artist who has made a significant contribution to our lives and communities. Without drag, life would be a drag. Right???
Please share upcoming drag events that you know about in the comments section!

We celebrate International Non-binary People's Day this week! This week celebrates and raises awareness of non-binary people who don't identify within the traditional gender binary. Did you know that since 2012, Nonbinary Awareness Week has been celebrated on July 14th because it is falls right in the middle between International Women's Day in March and International Men's Day in November? ππ€ππ€
Here are some ways you can go to support non-binary people.

The Stonewall Uprising was a series of protests that erupted in the early hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn, a q***r bar located in New York City's Greenwich Village. The uprising is widely regarded as a pivotal moment in the history of the 2SLGBTQIA+ rights movement in the United States and the birthplace of Pride.
At the time, gay and le***an bars were illegal, and police raids were commonplace. However, in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, when the Stonewall Inn was raided, the patrons of the bar did not go down without a fight.
Their resistance sparked several days of protests and clashes with the police. The Stonewall Uprising marked a turning point in the fight for 2SLGBTQIA+ rights, as they galvanized the community to demand equal treatment and protection under the law. In the months following the uprising, activists organized the first Pride marches in several major cities, and q***r organizations were formed across North America.
In the years following the uprisings, several landmark court cases challenged anti-q***r laws and discrimination, and many states and municipalities passed laws protecting q***r people from discrimination in housing, employment, and public accommodations.
While some US state legislatures work to ban history that includes q***r rights from Black history or Black history from q***r rights, the two are inextricably linked. Black people have always existed. Q***r people have always existed. Q***r Black people have always existed. And Black, q***r activists were an integral part of the Stonewall Uprising.

On June 24th, 1973, a gay bar in New Orleans called The UpStairs Lounge was subject to an arson attack that resulted in 32 lives lost - considered to be one of the largest massacre of q***r people in 20th-century America. Today, we remember those who were lost that day and honour the legacy of The UpStairs Lounge.

June 12th is Pulse Rememberance Day. Pulse was a gay bar, dance club, and nightclub in Florida, well known for hosting themed performances and educational events towards the LGBTQIA+ community. On this day in 2016, a mass shooting took the lives of 49 people and even more injured. Today is a day to pay tribute to the innocent people who lost their lives and the many others who were affected by the events of that night. π£π³οΈββ§οΈπ€π€β€οΈπ§‘ππππβ

Q***r spaces really are a site of joy. They are a testament to community, cooperation and love. We can celebrate and protect what we have and live in hope for more.
Rooms that have been purposely curated with specific identities in mind make for undefined factors of connectivity. To entirely juxtapose the fear felt in certain spaces, q***r safe spaces feel as though they are speaking to shared and in-built memories. They create an emotional aura that is nothing but disruptive and hold the power to heal all the times we were not accepted.
This is what Centre33 embodies at its core - itβs why we keep doing what we do. We have a magical community family at Centre33. Loving these beautiful flowers picked by a parent of a youth & some fresh 2SLGBTQIA+ books from todayβs library haul. We hope that you found a glimpse of joy (or two) in today as well. πΊ

This year, more than ever, we are reminded that q***r solidarity (including allyship) extends to every corner of the planet. Recently, we've have received some DMs asking, "why is there a pride month?", "why don't straight people have a parade?", "why are progressive people always fighting for LGBT rights, what about us?", etc.
We have a lot of feelings regarding these messages and you may as well, but we're grateful that people are reaching out. This is what we know to be true - here are some things that shouldn't be "radical" anywhere in the world.
