Helping Families Get The Rest They Need

A wonderful way to wind down your day with your child is by reading a book or two together. Incorporating reading into your bedtime routine helps create a calming atmosphere that promotes sleep, and you might even enjoy some cozy snuggles as a bonus!š„°
Happy Motherās Day to all the amazing momāsšøš·š·šŗ
This is your sign to go outside and enjoy the vitamin D to help your babyās (and your) sleep.
One of the best activities to help with your childās sleep is going outside.
While outside enjoying the fresh air getting the natural sun helps increase early- day cortisol which will help prepare our body to sleep better that night.
Get out there & enjoy the sun āļø
Isnāt it so funny when people who have no kids say ājust sleep when the baby sleeps.ā Not like you have a sink full of dishes, or toys scattered all over the house that you need to pick up.
In the first few months after my baby was born I did try to sleep when the baby slept but then thereās so much other stuff you need to catch up on.
What do you usually do whenever your baby naps? Do you nap as well? Finish the house chores? Let me know in the comments below.š
Sounds easy, right?
I get itās not as easy as it sounds.
Why?
Full feeds - You want to feed your baby a good full feed rather than having your baby snack little by little throughout the day. Newborns should eat every 2-3 hours. Some infants can eat every 3-4 hours (it varies per baby).
Daytime sleep - If your baby isnāt getting enough daytime sleep, your baby will end up getting overtired. Having an overtired baby is much harder to put down and keep asleep than a baby that follows wake windows. On the flip side, too much daytime sleep will definitely impact your babyās nighttime sleep, resulting in bedtime resistance and early morning wakings (because theyāve met all their sleep needs).
A bedtime routine plays a major role in getting your baby ready for sleep. Stick to a simple 30-minute bedtime routine. A good full feed, bath, lotion, read 2 books, and bed. (Depending on the age of the child, you might have to add in a top-up feed after the book and before bed).
If you do all three of these and your baby still has trouble with bedtime, just remember that how your baby falls asleep contributes to how well they sleep.
If they are always fed to sleep, then when they wake up, they will look for that bottle/breastmilk to get them back to sleep. If you put them down awake, they will learn to settle themselves to sleep so when they wake up, they can put themselves back down.
If you are doing 100% of the work, aka you are getting them to sleep, then transferring to the crib... your baby will have more wake-ups. This is because your baby canāt get themselves back to sleep, so getting them back to sleep will be very hard.

Nap transitions are tricky for every parent as every baby drops a nap at different ages.
It seems like everytime we finally feel like we have their sleep all figured out then they start fighting their nap. If your child is showing a few of these signs and is at an age where a nap transition happens, then itās time to start dropping a nap.
Start slowly gradually increasing their wake window over the next few days. š¤š¤

Traveling on the go šš
As much as we want to protect kidās sleep - you canāt stay at home all the time.
Whenever traveling on the go, it is key to try to stick to your regular sleep routine as best as you can. Although it is hard to stick to somewhat of a routine because you're out on the go, just try to aim for naps and bedtime around the same time as you typically would.
Bring all the helpful sleep tools that you would use at home with you (portable sound machine, sleep sack, and playpen) whenever you are traveling try to make the room similar to home.
Set the scene for sleep, and close all the blinds to make the room as dark as possible, put a towel underneath the door to block light from coming in. Do everything in the same routine as you would at home.
If you can use a blackout room that would help but if not possible then be prepared that their sleep might be more disturbed due to light coming in and not knowing their surroundings.
Falling asleep somewhere where they havenāt been before (or don't go often) may make it harder to get the child to fall asleep and stay asleep since it is a new surrounding so extra comforting may be necessary. ā¤ļø
Be patient and enjoy those cuddles š„°

AWAKE WINDOWS
Did you know that awake windows are actually the maximum they should be awake for?
So if your baby is showing tired signs 15 minutes prior to a scheduled nap, don't be afraid to put them down to bed.
Awake windows are a maximum, not a goal, especially the last nap of the day until bed time, this is often not achieved until a lot older than you might think.
