Amazing week breathing new life into this 180 year old Barn.
So. Many. Barns.
They are taking shape to be enjoyed for another several generations!.
Some repurposed as community gathering and event spaces.
Some host creative and talented brewers .
Others maintain their integral role on a farm.
Our team is now operating as Trunnel Timber Framing Ltd, so please join us to celebrate this transition. We are excited to continue supporting our clients to leave their legacy. Be assured that only our name is changing and our team remains the same.
Reclaimed Douglas Fir from the Welland canal. We brushed and oiled these beautiful beams to be integrated into a wicked design by a talented client.
Have a stroll down the trail by the lift locks and you can catch a glimpse of the build as it evolves.
A gorgeous late summer evening in the barn. Thanks for inviting us to celebrate the opening of this barn - restored over the past year into a beautiful and functional event space.
Dream garage shell complete!
This timber frame garage will be a beautiful compliment to the epic timber frame house, already on the property, and provide plenty of space for all the toys.
This is an example of the increasingly popular shed roof, often selected by architects and clients for its affordability, environmental impact and modern aesthetic.
Can you believe this barn had an 18" lean? This project is another example of another successful major structural overhaul.

Our team straightened the building, replaced foundations, structural timbers, siding and flooring, all while keeping the building standing. Doing this safely means creating an internal support structure - largely with shoring jacks.
You may be asking? 'How far gone is too far gone?' Or 'why wouldn't you just tear it down?' The answer is: there are many answers. This is a very good question and really depends on several factors. We routinely meet with barn & building owners to answer these critical questions before moving forward with any proposed work.
During our visit we investigate the structure, learn of our clients plans and goals for the building. The next step is to develop a plan to restore or replace any or all aspects of the building, which often includes a consultation with structural engineers.
In case you haven't heard, our team is growing yet again!
(Ok, ok, our tiny new supervisor will be hands-off for the foreseeable future...)
This may help explain our lack of updates.
However, the work continues- plenty of historic barn repairs and new builds in our near future.
We are excited to be hiring another highly skilled carpenter. Please spread the word widely. The posting link is in our bio.
Throwback to transforming a slab of a big ol' black oak log into a live edge bar. For this project, we created a router sled (which has seen several iterations since!) to plane the slabs to the appropriate thickness.
We're looking forward to re-homing several slabs this weekend at our upcoming wood sale, so if you're planning any woodcraft projects, stop by our shop and have a peek. Along with Oak, cherry and walnut slabs, we have plenty of barn board, timber, antique barn beams, kindling and more, all priced to sell.

There's something especially rewarding about working on a building that's been standing for over a century.
Our primary focus this past year has been repairing heritage buildings, namely barns in various states of repair.
We're using this frigid but beautiful time of year to pause and reflect on some of last year's barn restoration projects.
We're feeling grateful for our talented team if carpenters and our fantastic clients for the efforts to preserve these heritage buildings.
We look forward to another year of rewarding work - keeping historic buildings alive and functional!
