"I cannot describe how fantastic my experience was with midwives from Inlet. Each and every one of them spent time answering any questions I had, patiently going over any concerns. When towards the end of my pregnancy I suspected I have cholestasis, I was listened to and immediately got the referral form for bloodwork which confirmed it. I felt safe and taken care of. After the delivery, we also got a lot of great advice during home visits which was so convenient and made breastfeeding natural and easy.

Special thank you to Dina who was present during my birth at the hospital and made sure I had a safe delivery. Thanks to you we have beautiful, healthy baby girl!" - Aleksandra K

Happy first day of summer!

Ensuring your newborn is dressed appropriately during the summer months is essential for their comfort and safety. When it comes to protective clothing, consider the following tips:

Layered Lightweight Clothing: Dress your baby in layers of lightweight, breathable fabrics such as cotton. These fabrics help to regulate your baby’s body temperature by allowing air to circulate, keeping them cool and comfortable. Layers also provide flexibility, allowing you to add or remove clothing as the temperature changes throughout the day.

Wide-Brimmed Hat: Protect your baby’s delicate skin from the sun’s harmful rays with a wide-brimmed hat. A hat with a broad brim offers shade for your baby’s face, ears, and neck, reducing the risk of sunburn and overheating. Ensure the hat fits snugly but comfortably, and consider options with a chin strap to keep it in place.

By dressing your newborn in layered lightweight clothing and a wide-brimmed hat, you can help ensure they stay cool, protected, and comfortable during the warm summer days.

Have more questions about summer with your newborn? We are here to help! Feel free to contact us with any questions!

"I had the most incredible experience with the Inlet Midwives. Being pregnant for the first time, I was extremely nervous and had no idea what to expect. All the midwives at Inlet guided me with patience and care. They were personable, delicate, and nurturing. I felt so comfortable with each and every visit, and felt like they all communicated well with each other and left detailed notes about myself making sure nothing was missed. I want to share a couple shout outs to some of the midwives I had the pleasure of working closer with. Claire, for my delivery, thank you so much for being so patient and supportive through the entire process and for making me feel so safe. Jenna, thank you for the extra kindness you shared with me while i was also going through a loss of a close family member. Naseem, i was so lucky to have you as majority of my appointments/phone calls. your hard work is noticed, and i appreciate all the advice/encouragement that you shared with me.

Thank you SO much inlet team!! "- Nicole A

Bonding with your newborn is an essential part of their development and helps establish a strong emotional connection. Here are several effective ways to bond with your newborn:

Physical Contact
✔️Skin-to-Skin Contact: Hold your baby against your bare chest. This promotes warmth, comfort, and bonding.
✔️Cuddling: Spend time cuddling your baby. The warmth and closeness help them feel secure.
✔️Babywearing: Use a sling or baby carrier to keep your baby close while you move around.

Communication
✔️Talking and Singing: Speak to your baby in a gentle voice and sing lullabies. This helps them recognize your voice and promotes language development.
✔️Reading: Read simple books to your baby. The sound of your voice is comforting, and it’s a great way to start a reading habit.

Playtime
✔️Tummy Time: Lay your baby on their tummy for short periods while they are awake and supervised. This helps strengthen their muscles and gives you an opportunity to interact at their level.
✔️Gentle Play: Use soft toys, make gentle sounds, and engage in simple games like peek-a-boo.

Routine Care
✔️Diaper Changing: Turn diaper changing into a bonding activity by talking or singing to your baby.
✔️Dressing: Gently talk to your baby while dressing them, describing what you are doing.

Bonding with your newborn takes time and patience, but each of these activities helps build a strong, loving relationship. Enjoy the precious moments and trust that your bond will grow naturally as you spend time together.

Thank you to Vanessa who counselled me through a miscarriage prior to this pregnancy and also got to meet our rainbow baby this January. She answered all of my questions and concerns with compassion and made me feel very cared for. I am also especially grateful to have met Shannon, who delivered our fourth and last baby! She was calm and confident during the delivery and made me feel at ease.

🌟 Tummy Time Tips for Your Little Explorer! 🌟

✔️ Start Early: Kickstart your baby's development journey with early tummy time sessions. Begin with short intervals and gradually extend the duration as your baby grows.

✔️ Use a Firm Surface: Opt for a firm, flat surface such as a cozy play mat or blanket on the floor. This provides the ideal support for your baby's exploration.

✔️ Engage Your Baby: Dive into the magical world of interaction during tummy time! Get on their level, use stimulating toys, playful rattles, or captivating mirrors to encourage those adorable reaching and grasping movements.

At Inlet Community Birth Program , we cherish every milestone of your baby's growth journey. 💖
