Would you like to help me raise funds for the BC Cancer Foundation by supporting “The Froggy Rose Project”? It’s what happened when I combined a love of photography, the beauty of a rose garden, the joy of little frog visitors and the celebration of cancer recovery!

Each box of notecards contains 6 unique photos of tiny frogs in my rose garden. Blank inside for you to add your own message.

Ok, I have some good news and some less than good news. The good news is that there is a cute sleeping pup on the second slide here!

The less than good news is we’re needing to follow other businesses and start charging for our handled gift bags 😂🙈❤️

We’ll still have our regular paper bags if you need one in a pinch but with the rising costs of packaging we need to charge a nominal fee for the handled ones. If though you’d like to complete your gift with a bag, we can provide one for $1, $1.50, or $2 depending on the size

I don’t have enough words to be able to express my gratitude for this holiday session. It was my first Christmas at the helm of this magical shop and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience thanks to our incredible customers, vendors, and staff

It was a super busy time at the shop (right up to yesterday’s Christmas Eve day shopping rush 😂) and it is very clear how much you all value shopping local and supporting all the amazing artisans represented at Alcove

Huge huge thank you to these incredible makers in our shop who contributed gift always for our Moonlight Madness event last Thursday! You all came out and the support was incredible

My eldest here Jacob likes to come with me to the shop on Sundays and so we did the draw for our winners yesterday (check out my stories for the amateur hour that that process was 🤦‍♀️😂). The first clip is short because I realized I almost showed the winner’s phone number on the video and panicked and stopped filming 😂🤦‍♀️

We are so very excited to be participating for the first time in the Blue Friday movement!

Every year this environmental initiative provides an alternative to the consumerism driven Black Friday to raise money for different ocean conservation projects.

We are donating a portion of our sales proceeds today to help support what the amazing humans connected with Blue Friday are doing to conserve, restore, and protect our oceans

This year Blue Friday is supporting Living Oceans, which runs cleaning expeditions to the remote shores of northern Vancouver Island. Their goal is to remove plastic and metal marine debris that impacts foreshore and intertidal areas which are important refuges for seabirds and marine mammals

For every $20 raised, 5lbs of waste will be removed from the oceans, so come on in and have your shopping support not only local artisans, but also our local oceans!

I was over the moon to discover the Blue Friday movement and am absolutely thrilled to have been included as a participant this year for the first time!

Today is an opportunity to reflect upon, honour, and remember those who sacrificed, often with their lives, to preserve the values and freedoms in this land. Regardless of political orientation, we can still be grateful and show appreciation for the individual people who gave so much of themselves for their country.

Canada has also been so very fortunate to have had the BIPOC community step up and fight for this land, often without the proper honouring and reflection of the level of sacrifice they have made. Today is an opportunity to do so. We thank you.

My family has had a history of involvement in the Air Force, navy, and military. My great uncle was an Air Force pilot who was lost when his plane was shot down. I am grateful for him. I am also grateful for my husband’s grandfather who served for many many years in Canada’s navy, and for his cousin who also has sacrificed much in his military service. I am grateful for him.

We are fortunate to have our shop located in Qualicum with a number of retired community members, a number of whom are veterans and we are so very grateful for your service

A warm welcome to Meghan Robertson, the new owner of Alcove Homegrown Living. I wish Meghan and her family the best! Here's Meghan’s introduction, please pop by and say hi to her when you're in town.

"I’ve always been passionate about supporting local artisans and have been actively involved in the maker and creative community myself over the last 5 years through my woodburning art (Honeybeezigns) and tea businesses (Little Tea Peddler). I have been married to the best human on the planet for 17 years and am a mama of four kiddos between the ages of 10 and 5, as well as 6 goats, a bunch of chickens, a Rottweiler pup and soon-to-be two pigs! We absolutely adore Qualicum and consider ourselves so very blessed to live in this area. I am beyond words excited for me and my family at this opportunity now in Alcove. It is my heart to honour the absolute magic that Cheryl has created over the last 7 years as I step into carrying Alcove forward with the purpose she began of supporting local artisans, growing our community of creatives, and providing a meaningful shopping experience."

We have some news to share with you, our dear, valued and loyal customers. We have sold our business, after deep consideration and contemplation. It has been a bittersweet time, as our 7 years at Alcove has been nothing short of amazing. From inception, creating the brand and opening the shop, to selling so many fabulous local and hand crafted goods, we are proud of what we have become! It has been such a pleasure to be a part of this Downtown Qualicum Beach community. We're excited to see the shop continue in the hands of the new owner, Meghan Robertson. I can assure you that she will continue the same great legacy of Alcove, and as an artist herself, I know she values the local community, makers, artists and handcrafted, ethically made goods.

First of all, I am grateful for my husband Mike, who has supported me and the business, relentlessly, behind the scenes. Thank you Mike! My son Geoff has been a rock! From the brand design to the creation of the website, Geoff's creativity and technical support has been instrumental in the success of the shop. Thank you Geoff! A big thank you to my daughter Kyla, for all of your moral support and creative ideas towards the business at inception and beyond!

To all of the women who have worked for Alcove over the years, you brought and shared your rich talents and provided the best customer service! A huge THANK YOU to you all.

To all of the makers, artists, producers of the fine products we sell, I am forever grateful for the relationships we've shared and that you trusted us to display and sell your products! To all of the service providers, bookkeepers, delivery people, accountants, postal service folks, financial folks, THANK YOU!
