The Credit Union Spark Centre in Weyburn is a one-of-a-kind sports, culture and recreation facility that will serve as the epicenter of a major revitalization underway at Jubilee Park in the growing city. The multi-generational, multipurpose facility is connected via a shared commons space to a new state-of-the-art elementary school, also designed by the project team led by Number TEN and 1080 Architecture.
The main floor of the two-level fieldhouse features a half-size FIFA soccer field, multipurpose space, children’s play area, art gallery, pottery studio and rooms for educational programs. The second level includes an elevated three-lane running track, volleyball/basketball/pickleball courts, golf simulator room, and flexible spectator seating, as well as views of the beautiful Jubilee Park outside.

Introducing CHATTERBOX!
CHATTERBOX celebrates the act of gathering together and storytelling as bearers of warmth, light, and heart within the city. Bright pockets of colour and light pierce through the winter landscape, and beckon occupants to come experience the space. Like the origami chatterbox game, the interior folds reveal stories and conversation prompts, telling rich histories of community resiliency and spurring viewers to make new memories together within the space.

Call for Stories:
We are calling for unique Saskatchewan to stories of gathering, community, and comradery. Chosen entries will be featured along the walls of CHATTERBOX, creating a place for past and future memories. Submit your (50 word or less) story through direct message or email at [email protected].

Submission cut-off: Friday October 21.

Our team has had the privilege to work with and learn from Indigenous Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and communities on projects across Saskatchewan. Through these experiences, we have had the opportunity to work collaboratively with Indigenous partners to fully understand each project’s cultural needs.

Our focus is on creating designs that reflect the uniqueness of each Nation’s culture in a meaningful way. The success of these projects has been thanks to the vision, teachings, and patience of our Indigenous partners; we are so privileged to be able to learn from them and to translate their vision into physical space.

In the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation our team and our firm is committed to educating ourselves on the harms of the past – we recognize that history is important to our future, and that we must continue to learn from Indigenous communities to move forward together. We are also committed to continuing to learning about the rich Indigenous cultures that surround us here on Treaty Four lands, the traditional homelands of the nêhiyawak, Anihšināpēk, Dakota, Lakota, and Nakoda, and the homeland of the Métis/Michif Nation.

We will continue to seek out projects where we have the opportunity to work with our province’s Indigenous communities in designing culturally meaningful spaces that support their continued growth and prosperity.

Projects illustrated in this post:
• YWCA Centre for Women and Families Ceremony space (rendering) – designed in partnership with Elders and Knowledge Keepers from All Nation’s Hope Network, as well as the YWCA’s residents and staff.
• iniwekamick Tokoja Hochoka, Bert Fox Community High School Indigenous cultural room – designed in partnership with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, families, and students from Fort Qu’Appelle’s Bert Fox Community High School.
• Muskowekwan Family Healing Centre (rendering) – designed in partnership with the Muskowekwan First Nation.
• Nakota Junction Gas Station, Carry the Kettle First Nation (rendering) – designed in partnership with Carry the Kettle First Nation.

Ecole Connaught Community School - one of our favourite K to 12 projects that demonstrates the power of authentic engagement and community participation in the design of educational projects.

Designed by 1080 Architecture in partnership with Number Ten Architectural Group, Ecole Connaught replaced a well-loved but structurally unsound heritage structure in Regina’s Cathedral neighbourhood. This bright, modern 21st Century School reflects the vibrant Cathedral community while also paying homage to the building upon whose footprint it now stands.

Ecole Connaught is designed in small ‘neighbourhoods’ within the larger school community with a focus on every area of the building functioning as a learning space. The design invites collaboration and project-based learning, paired with areas that support more individualized, focused learning.

Celebrating its 5th anniversary this year, Ecole Connaught Community School is an anchor in the Cathedral neighbourhood, reflecting the diversity and artistic sensibility of the community that it serves.

Legacy Park elementary school showcases a playful approach to school design that further builds on the power of design to unite and create a sense of place in educational buildings.

Designed in collaboration with NumberTen Architectural Group, this school celebrates its theme of “A school within a park and a park within a school” through playful abstract representations of nature and colour. Each learning community has its own colour theme that is used to create a sense of belonging and passive way finding within each grade grouping. Common spaces are then defined through the mix of colors that blend together.

The idea of the school building as a learning tool is further celebrated through the pattern of Fibonacci triangles that form part of the school’s logo and are carried through the overall motif around the school graphics allowing it to be appreciated for both the design and mathematic qualities it affords.

Colin O'Brian Man's Shoppe | This luxury men's wear store was designed to compliment and provide a backdrop for the unique, high-end garments and exceptional customer experience that Colin O'Brian's is known for. The Station | This project’s design repurposes a historic train station and transforms it into a contemporary event space. Paying homage to the train station, the extended hall by way of a glass solarium mimics the rooflines and proportions of the original structure.

Nestled in the prairie landscape, the glass solarium’s design creates an immersive environment grounded in nature and beauty, where the lines are blurred between inside and outside, land and sky.

A closer look at one of our favourite lobby designs, for KPMG's Corporate office in Regina, SK.

When we began the design for KPMG's Regina office, we knew that this unique space would need a statement piece to create a focal point for the lobby and reception area. Upon arrival, this space creates an introduction to the KPMG brand speaking to the optimism, energy and expanse of the local context. With a subtle nod to sheathes of wheat and corporate branding, this active space creates a feature that not only underscores KPMG's strong presence in the Saskatchewan market but function as well!

Beautiful craftmanship by Saskatchewan based Millworkers, .forty.

The WELL Building Standard is a roadmap for creating spaces with human-first design in mind.

WELL design is grounded in a body of medical research focused on the connection between the built environment and our health. A WELL certified space will include design strategies that improve the nutrition, fitness, mood, and sleep patterns of its occupants. The inclusion of filtered water bottle-filling stations, circadian lighting design, space for physical activity, and access to exterior views are a few examples of WELL design interventions that create buildings where humans thrive.

Our team is proud to apply this unique knowledge base and purposeful perspective to our projects to create designs that advance our industry and support the health and wellness of our community.

A space and shop like no other - when Havik Clothiers approached us to design their space, we knew it would be a match made in heaven.

Havik was seeking a contemporary design paired with the beauty and simplicity of raw materials such as concrete and barn board. The exsisting building, an old autobody shop, offered plenty of inspiration as we transformed this space into a high-end shopping experience unique to the province and reflective of Havik's urban brand.

Upon acquiring the long-standing retail store, The Optical Shopper in Regina, Sk, the new owners sought the expertise of 1080 to redesign the store layout using a hospitality and user experience informed approach. 1080 worked with the owners to understand their unique vision and were able to design a space reflective of the Optical Shoppe brand and overall client experience. Our design decisions are beautiful, functional, and durable. For each project this starts in our planning phase, where we work closely with the client to understand the flow and utilization of their space, as well as the business case that’s driving their project.

Each charrette, staff engagement, and test layout gives us a clearer understanding of the client’s needs and ensures that our team makes design decisions that stand the test of time.

1080 is excited to introduce this beautiful living wall by Enviroscape Interiors to our office!

A pillar of our design approach is the use of biophilic design in our projects, this means integrating natural materials, views, and plants to enhance the built environment. In alignment with our WELL training, we use plants in our designs to create environments that decrease levels of stress, anxiety, and fatigue, while improving air quality and psychological well-being.

Living walls are a fantastic way to bring all the benefits and beauty of living plants into your space. Enviroscape Interiors uses an integrated watering system that allows gravity to do the work, sending water through the system and leaving no risk of sitting water or damage to walls.
