P3Architecture Partnership

Artistry meets functionality meets beauty meets innovation. The best architecture is about all of those things. It is also about people.

We spend most of our lives either inside buildings or surrounded by them. Buildings are where we live, play, study and work. Whether we know it or not, buildings greatly impact our lives. Since the 1950s when our original founder Joseph Pettick designed the distinctive SaskPower building, P3A has been committed to positively impacting people and communities through architecture. P3A was tasked with restacking and redesigning four floors of office space for MLT Aikins to improve productivity and functionality and to create a consistent aesthetic. Project goals included: improve adjacencies to streamline work processes; upgrade finishes to reflect client branding; increase daylighting to promote wellness, and energy efficiency; upgrade lighting; increase meeting and touchdown spaces; improve technology; reuse newly purchased furniture.

Many sustainability solutions were incorporated, such as: florescent lighting was replaced with energy efficient lighting; more natural light was introduced by replacing solid walls with glass; existing doors and frames were repurposed; and existing workstations were reused.

A horizontal line design element was repeated throughout. Contrast was incorporated by creating a monochromatic colour palette to emphasize the client’s extensive art collection. The variety of materials and textures added interest, including tile, carpet, ceiling baffles, and wood veneer panels installed in a stacked linear pattern.

The Mitakuyé Owâs’ā Centre, translating to “all my relations” in the Dakota language, is a place of gathering in Regina’s Heritage neighbourhood. The project included partial demolition and remediation of the old Municipal Justice Building, a new addition, and historical preservation and renovation of the 1930s portion of the building. The centre includes a kitchen, meeting rooms, common spaces, offices of the Heritage Community Association, a large multipurpose room that doubles as an athletic centre and gathering space, and a gym and training/fitness spaces for the Regina Police Service.

P3A completed this project as part of the Regina Police Services Campus Renewal Project. P3A led a community consultation process to identify gaps in space and service in the neighbourhood which helped drive the design. Through this process, it was determined that accessibility was a key community desire; this meant inclusivity for all regarding both physical access and program access.

Also, the large cafeteria in the southeast corner was converted into three nursing simulation spaces, a large demonstration area, and storage.

The project included updated interior finishes and redesign of the mechanical and electrical building systems. In addition, P3A designed two temporary simulation spaces to accommodate the program’s students during construction.

P3A has seen several iterations of our logo over the years. After our move to a new building in 2023 and the redesign of our office, it made sense to refresh our branding.

Our Name: P3A’s original founder, Joseph Pettick became one of Saskatchewan’s and Canada’s best known architects. In the late 1990’s, Mr. Pettick merged with architect Colin Phillips, forming Pettick Phillips Partners Architects Ltd. Soon after, two of P3A’s current Principals James Youck and Patrick Kelly joined the firm which was rebranded as “P3Architecture Partnership” (or “P3A” for short) a few years later. This continues to be our name and has not changed.

Our Logo: The new logo is a play on the letters P, 3, and A. It is made of 3 stylized letter P’s that are joined together. When these P’s are tilted 45 degrees they create a graphic letter A. The angles of the logo reference building structures and the overlapping letters give the logo a sense of dimension and volume. The logo can also be read as an upward arrow, giving it positive associations.

We are excited to introduce our new look into our everyday activities.

Thanks to Bravo Tango for guiding us through the process to reimagine our branding!

Our team is proud to share renderings of the new Prince Albert Victoria Hospital project. We’ve been working closely with the Saskatchewan Health Authority, SaskBuilds, Ministry of Health, Prince Albert Grand Council, Boreal Healthcare Foundation and our design-build partners KRA Architecture, P3Architecture Partnership, and PCL Construction on the design of this much-needed new facility.

As a local Saskatchewan-based design firm with offices in Prince Albert and Saskatoon, this project is close to our hearts and will be a game-changer for healthcare delivery in the city and northern region, including state-of-the-art patient care areas and culturally significant First Nations and Métis spaces.

P3A participated in the Winter Art Initiative again this year which can be seen in Victoria Park in the FROST Regina Festival downtown hub.

Our installation, titled “Crystallize”, is comprised of approximately 480 translucent ice filled tubes that transform as they move through the freeze-thaw of winter. Refracting a spectrum of colours, the iridescent ice softly paints its surroundings with dancing shadows. Suspended from a steel frame, the individual tubes, acting as a suspended glacial mass, are designed to engage in a harmonious dance with the ambient surrounding and park users, generating a hollow symphony of winter chimes. Crystallize invites the public to transcend the traditional boundaries of passive observation, encouraging active engagement and fostering a unique sensorial experience within the landscape of Victoria Park.

Thanks to PCL Construction, City of Regina | Municipal Government, and Regina Downtown BID!

Meghan applies her knowledge of interiors to every aspect of the design process from initial concept to completion. Exciting to see progress!

Progress continues at the North Regina Joint Use School & Community Centre. Phase A structural steel has wrapped up on the South end of the building and we will continue North with Phase B. Once Phase B is complete, we will begin installing hollowcore precast concrete panels to the second-floor structure along the existing Imperial School building.
