HOW TO BUST OUT OF A PLATEAU & START MAKING GAINS AGAIN!
I know I've talked about this before, but it seems there's still a lack of clarity on what my 'injury' or 'limitations' exactly are. In my mind, it makes sense and sometimes I feel like everyone gets it so I should shutup, but then I get questions and comments that show there is still lots of confusion.
It's a complex issue that is difficult to explain. I think doing a live demonstartion like this where I over-exaggerate the imbalances visually is the best way to help you understand.
It takes a more in-depth understanding of anatomy and biomechanics to piece together how exactly all the dysfunction and imbalance is connected. But I hope this gets the jist of it across.
Initially, I didn't think anyone would care about this and that I should just keep trucking and post results...but now I see that sharing this has helped lots of you who have experienced some type of similar dysfunction. Long-term muscle imbalance and movement dysfunction is a real b*itch that is hard to solve and understand. Yet, it seems to effect a sizeable portion of people.
Learning about your body and then finding management strategies to improve is my best advice. You may not be able to fully FIX the dysfunction but you can definitely improve and perhaps there is a way to manage the issue enough to allow you to do more of what you want to do. Are they as big as my head yet? Second pic is from 2016 at a time when I wasn't doing a whole lot for training but had built up some gains from the previous 4-5 years. Had lots of negative thoughts yesterday about training...."why am I doing this?" "is it really possible for me?" "Think about the amount of time and energy spent on training my arms...what if I dedicated that to something else?" "is this unhealthy? maybe I should just do mobility all the time instead" Sometimes these little weak thoughts come and go, but yesterday was a big wave of em. I remeasured the pipe daddies at night (cold and flexed) and they came in just a tiny sliver under 18 inches...like a tenth of an inch or something. At the exact time I was girth checking my big ol thickies my phone buzzed and it was a text from my mom saying that she had found this old notebook I'd been looking for for years. I thought it was lost - this is the notebook I wrote down my goal of having 18 inch arms...11 years ago! Signed it and everything. I dunno, if you believe in a higher power but dammit if that sequence of events wasn't a sign to keep pushing I don't what is. At the end of the day it's just training....just some curls and extensions tryna bulge up the pythons. But, having something to aim after and truly push yourself as hard as you can to achieve it....is something more. Maybe it's not arm training but I'm sure you've got something in your life you could push for. In an effort to avoid sounding corny I won't say it has shaped me into a whole new person alpha dog wolf pack roar shred it mentality, but it definitely has made me more mentally tough.
