Happy Mother’s Day. Each mother’s journey is unique and impactful to the loved ones around them. In whatever stage you find yourself, I hope you feel loved and appreciated today and everyday.

The power of a mother never ceases to amaze me. I see so many women pouring out to those around them. Then when she focuses on herself to create positive change and health, it never fails to create a ripple that extends to her spouse and children. With an overwhelming majority of my clients being mothers, I am privileged to get to witness this on the regular ☺️

A healthy mom is force to be reckoned with… body, mind and spirit.

XOXO

What area of health are you focused on at the moment?

Spring has finally sprung here in Saskatchewan. The trees have buds and the grass is greening! With the new season often comes a a feeling of more energy and a shift towards refocusing on our health... its a great time to consider where we want to focus. If your health and nutrition goals are the same as they were in the New Year, I promise you that you are not alone. Take this as a sign to consider what is working for you and where you could use a refocus and build a plan that will work for you!

There is still lots of 2024 left. Let's make the most of it, one day at a time.

One of the best things you can do to improve your health is to focus on the positive. Add nourishing food, create healthy habits, increase your movement… you get it. When we focus on the positive, it creates a different energy and ease. Let’s nourish the best version of ourselves, one step at a time.

Mindset Monday- Snow Day Edition ❄️ ☃️
What’s your snow day style? 😉 We (most of Saskatchewan) are working on digging out after the weekend storm… personally, we are pretty well clear. Due to the school being closed and roads still a work in progress, we are taking another snow day.

This has left me pondering… While the storm was not a ‘good’ or a ‘positive’ thing, it left me with an opportunity to focus on the positive and embrace the moment. In the midst of the storm, I could focused on all the things that I couldn’t do or what should have been. However with nowhere to go, I chose to enjoy the peace of staying put, get things done that have been on the back burner and had some quality time with my family. I even got a couple of great workouts in!

The storm, and the whole weekend, was a reminder to focus on the positive. Embrace the journey. The snow gets shovelled, life will get back to normal, and the storms of life will pass.

Happy Monday!

Back to school for the kids means back to baking for me ☺️ Preparing lunches are easier when we have fresh snacks on hand! First up is Banana Chocolate Chip muffins. They are so yummy and good, even if they are gluten-free 🙃

Baking at home is satisfying and I love that I can choose ingredients that are healthy as well as suit my family’s needs.

I like the recipe and keep it dairy free. For the chocolate chips I use to keep them allergen free for school.

What’s your favourite type of muffin or baking for school snacks?

High protein breakfasts support you with balanced blood sugar to keep your energy stable and consistent throughout the day. A high protein breakfast will also keep you full throughout the day will little cravings for that pre lunch snack 🥯

It can be difficult to find a protein rich breakfast that doesn’t include just eggs. Here are some simple, quick, and cheap recipes you can try!

Would you try any of these? 🧐

Holistic health and healing comes from all aspects of yourself. Not only your exercise, not only your diet, not only your stress levels, not only your community, its never just one thing that we can pinpoint - although it would be pretty nice if it was 😌

This is why we have to look at ourselves as the whole beings we are. Everything affects one another. This is why short cuts are not going to cut it when it comes to finding lasting health

Practicing consistently (not perfectly) a balanced lifestyle that supports you, your body, mind, and spirit is a sure way to gain well-being.

Choosing the things we do with live changes how we show up in them 🌸

When we choose healthy actions but through a negative mindset there is likely not going to be the same outcome. If we’re going against our body rather than nourishing it, our seemingly positive behaviours don’t have the same effect.

Choose love, nourishment, and grace for your body which Carrie’s yourself through so much each day 🤍 she deserves the love

It can be easy to tell yourself that self care is to not make the meal because you're tired, to not making your bed, and to revert to watching TV to "relax". 🥱

If you take note of how relaxed you feel after doing those things versus things that are actually caring to your body such as cooking and enjoying a nourishing meal, appreciate your clean space, and fully take in a walk in nature - what would you feel? How does each one of these actions affect your mood and wellbeing? Not only for today but for the day after. 🌱

Once you become aware of what your body actually needs in specific scenarios - the choice in self care becomes easy.

This is not to say to not watch TV! Just become aware of what you are watching, how it makes you feel, and find different ways to relax apart of this from time to time. It's difficult to realize how it affects you when its a part of your daily routine.

What's something you used to say was "self-care" that was actually not benefitting you? 💅

This is a myth that I have been guilty of believing before. I think we all have, especially in the midst of hustle culture and "sleep when I'm dead" mentality being so popular. We are TIRED of this mentality! 🥱

This couldn't be further from the truth. Sleep is crucial for your physical and brain health. Aim to get at least 8 hours of sleep each night.

Did you know this about a lack of sleep?

I’m winning the ‘What’s for supper/dinner?’ game today! 🎉👌🏻🤩

I am extra jazzed because of how simple and low effort it was. Here’s the summary- chicken thighs done in the instant pot, zucchini (from my garden) spears done the air fryer and a basic salad topped with balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Quality protein and veggies are so satisfying and full of nutrients. 🤤 🔥

This is your reminder that healthy eating doesn’t have to be complicated or need a ton of time. Don’t stress if you are struggling with after work meals, it happens to everyone.
Break free by planning for simple options, bookmark your favourite recipes and keep healthy staples on hand. Also, having devices like the and the makes it sooo much easier.

Every wellness plan should include heathy eating aspect. Movement, rest, stress management and connection are all important for true wellness, but will have limited impact with out Our food fuels us and informs our body with every bite. It is essential to find what works for you and your bio individual needs. Fuel your body right!

I am so thankful that I get to guide so many individuals into truly regaining their health by simply (not always easily) focusing on their diet, lifestyle, environment and habits. These changes have no side effects other than feeling good (and looking good too😉)

This is a gentle reminder that medications are not first course of action when it comes to health and healing our bodies. We always want to initially address the root cause to treat the issue at hand. The root cause can also be intertwined with so many aspects of your life. This is why the holistic approach is so crucial.

This is not to say that medications are not helpful, they have their place, but they should not be first course of action when it comes to ill-health.

Finding Freedom with Balance

Making healthy choices, being healthy and staying healthy can seem like a confusing, full time job. We are constantly be bombarded with messages that contradict the previous and the next. It can be too much!

One of the reasons I do what I do is, I want to help others enjoy the freedom of finding balance. In the past I struggled with the all or nothing perspective. At on point I was so strict with myself, only to burn out and make a series of horrible choices. However, I have grown my knowledge of healthy and wellness over the last decade and one thing remains clear, we need to find a healthy balance.

You don’t need to be on the newest diet or program. you don’t need to burn off that treat you had. The thing is- when you make better choices YOU feel better. Those choice are with a simple framework, We need to learn to listen to our bodies, keep our food whole, exercise to feel good and rest when needed.

When you eat balanced, whole food based meals, your body will thank you with vibrancy. When you move your body, your body will thank you with less pain. When you take a moment to rest, your body will thank you with energy.
