⚡️Saturday Spotlight⚡️
1. What is your name?
Rami El-Sayegh
2. How old are you and when did you start training at JKC?
I am 32 and I started in March of 2023.
3. What is your profession?
I work in consulting for pharmaceutical companies
4. What is the reason you originally chose JKC?
I'm lost in the world without JKC. Also had a stubborn injury that wouldn't go away. Tried everything, and they are the only ones that finally broke through it and helped improve my injury.
5. What makes JKC different from other gyms/fitness regimes you have tried in the past?
The knowledge Jon and Thomas have is unparalleled. Their understanding of the body and the way they can help me adjust when exercises don't feel right due to my injury have allowed me to get stronger and have a functional active body without regressing. It's not a copy paste routine. They are also personable, accommodating, and have created a great environment that makes it easy to want to come workout. The best part is they have gotten me back to doing the things I love to do without pain!
6. What is your favorite gym memory at JKC?
Every time I'm doing the split squats, it has this special ability to make me reflect on all my decisions that brought me to this point. Also, Wednesday evenings have become afrobeat music night thanks to my wife, which makes the workouts less painful!

1. What is your name?
Glenda Best
2. How old are you and when did you start training at JKC?
Isn’t there a saying that a woman should never disclose her age? That’s probably from the “olden days” so I’ll just come right out and say I am 63 years of age and I started in January of 2024.
3. What is your profession?
I am a lawyer
4. What is the reason you originally chose JKC?
I had always been physically active, but I had an accident and then like many people, life just got in the way. I drifted away from fitness. When I finally acknowledged that I was getting older and that I needed to refocus on my physical well-being, I looked around for a gym that wasn’t too big, whose personnel were well qualified and came highly recommended by people I respected, I found JKC. It was my first and only choice.
5. What makes JKC different from other gyms/fitness regimes you have tried in the past?
Jon and Thomas are encouraging. You always feel that their attention is focused on you even though there may be others that are working out as well. I expect that every person in the gym feels that same focused attention. You’re never left on your own wondering what you should do next. They praise your progress. They recommend when your exercises and weights should be changed. They have an eclectic taste in music. You can talk to them about anything – how your day is going, what your weekend plans are, what restaurants you should visit, what exercise and training you should do on the days you’re not at JKC. They make working out fun.
6. What is your favorite gym memory at JKC.
I have a new favourite memory every time I go to JKC. The gym is filled with laughter and good conversation. There is always a question (sometimes stupid or silly and sometimes thought provoking) on the blackboard that you can choose to answer. If I had to pick one memory it would be the day of my first session. I was a little nervous and concerned that I was just too out of shape to return to the gym. That thought was quickly dispelled, and I have been loving every training session since then. I always leave the gym feeling stronger and with less worries about my day going forward.

JKC is a great place to train; each workout is a new challenge; never boring; with great results.

Hey Folks,
Thanks for you patience over the last couple of weeks while booking spaces were limited with Jon away. The good news is, he’s decided that an art career isn’t in the cards for him so he’ll be back in the gym Tuesday morning at 6:15am to resume his regular sessions. There is some (very limited) space on Monday evening with Thomas so if you’d like a Monday session hop on Mindbody and grab some space before it’s gone.

1. What is your name?
Tom Legrow
2. How old are you and when did you start training at JKC?
I am 65 years old and I started training at JKC in the November of 2023
3. What is your profession?
I worked as an Engineering Technologist with Newfoundland Power. I retired from that job in 2018, with almost 40 years of service.
4. What is the reason you originally chose JKC?
I joined JKC to improve my fitness level. After a serious illness in 2023, it became more difficult to do the normal things I was used to doing easily. My sister had been training at JKC for 10 years and suggested it would be a good fit for me.
5. What makes JKC different from other gyms/fitness regimes you have tried in the past?
The personal approach and attention to detail makes JKC different. My progress is monitored closely, and the program is continually changed to meet my needs. Each week I see progress and my overall well being has improved dramatically.
6. What is your favorite gym memory at JKC?
It’s hard to identify a favorite moment. I have enjoyed meeting new people that come with the group training.

1. What is your name?
Andrew Rossiter
2. How old are you and when did you start training at JKC?
I’m 51 and started in the fall of 2023.
3. What is your profession?
Family Doctor
4. What is the reason you originally chose JKC?
I wanted to start some weight training to improve strength for overall better living and to improve performance and prevent injury while training for and racing in triathlons and marathons. A good friend of mine - Norbert Lake - has been attending JKC since the 70’s and he’s always spoken highly of it.
5. What makes JKC different from other gyms/fitness regimes you have tried in the past?
I don’t have much experience attending gyms since my university years so not much from the past few decades to make a real comparison. I have the equipment at home to do the workouts but I’ve always managed to sidestep it with the excuse that I needed to get another run, ride or swim in that time slot. JKC is different in that, although it gives one lots of scheduling flexibility, once I book that session I’ve made a commitment to myself to get that strength session in and I’ve been sticking with it. I haven’t been at it a long time yet but I definitely have felt some strength gains since starting out with it.
6. What is your favorite gym memory at JKC?
Oh the lunges of course. Always my favourite thing to do. Fond memories of lunges and the jiggly legs you get from doing them.
