These photos from June 1, 2018 popped up today. Wow!

At this stage we had started removal and replacement of all the water damaged sections and getting ready to start plumbing rough in.

This project became a real game changer for me and I am so grateful to have found this path and love my work/play, doing creative problem solving, opening spaces to be more accessible for all.

Here is the Home and Cabin article showing the finished product. Thanks to Jackie Quinlan and Property Projects Limited for such a great experience working with you! ✨💖✨

Here's how some cultural sites are using universal design for more accessible spaces | CBC News 08/15/2020

The arts community shows us how to create experiences with universal design and inclusion at the heart rather than an afterthought. There is always a way to improve, even with the challenges of a heritage built environment, and plenty of resources available. Thanks to InclusionNL for supporting organizations in these efforts to raise the bar!

Here's how some cultural sites are using universal design for more accessible spaces | CBC News "Accessibility" can be a tricky word — it means something different to everyone, and depends on how individuals use a space. For these Newfoundland and Labrador venues, providing access to everyone is a priority.

Indigenous Food Sovereignty In The Time Of COVID-19 | Chatelaine 08/05/2020

“When we plant corn, we acknowledge and pray over every seed. We have ancient practices that acknowledge that we truly can live in harmony with all creatures in our ecologies. I think this journey for me and my family is reconnecting to the planting practices and medicinal spiritual ways that we can. Some of us do that incrementally, and some of us take big bites—but we are all in this season of spiritual and cultural revitalization together.”

Indigenous Food Sovereignty In The Time Of COVID-19 | Chatelaine For some Indigenous families, the pandemic has created more time and space for to practice and nurture traditional food and kinship systems. Here, three women share how.

More change needs to happen with practices in the care of seniors (and others...big topic). What are the ways we can improve and how does our society make the shift (back?) to honouring our elders?

Maybe this is what one vision for an inclusive city would look like for a wheelchair user... but maybe not, and there are many perspectives to consider, so let’s find out what people have to say!

Tune in to the Accessible NL page tomorrow at 2pm for our Facebook Live event with Josh Menchions and Anne Malone!

Jenny Lay-Flurrie | Microsoft Story Labs 07/29/2020

I was very happy to discover this article today as it really answered so many questions about inclusive technology available to support our team with NL.

There is a lot of information here, and some wonderful quotes, though maybe my favourite... "Inclusive design is not one size fits all; it’s one size fits one."

We have endless potential to create, only limited by the confines of our imagination, but there is no real barrier there, just as the barriers in our physical world can be resolved. Our challenge is to design customized solutions based on truly understanding needs from a holistic point of view not our own limited perspectives.

The mission of Accessible NL, to work with businesses on improving accessibility of services, is also summed up nicely in this quote... "to elevate accessibility from afterthought to foresight, from a corporate novelty once beset by ROI questions to simply smart business."

Please join us this Saturday, 2-4pm, for the first in our 3 part Facebook Live event series to talk about solutions to specific issues affecting accessibility in St. John's. See the Accessible NL group page for more info.
