Spencer Lofranco’s work is characterized by loose, expressive brushstrokes and palpable emotion. In the eye of the beholder, the messaging could be chilling desolation or joyful expression of being wanted rather than needed. What does this piece make you feel?

Let us reintroduce Joe Enns: oil painter, writer, and fisheries biologist from Vancouver Island, BC. He's a self-taught artist, mastering oils through YouTube tutorials and magazines. Joe's art spans portraits, wildlife, and landscapes, drawing inspiration from impressionism and disruptive realism. His vibe? Loose, messy brushstrokes aiming to capture that same expressive style in his own creations.

Meet Colette Tan: Vancouver's ethereal abstract artist with an incredible journey. From banking to battling cancer, she found her way back to art in 2020. Colette paints from deep within, aiming to revive the soul through the beauty of her art. She believes her paintings hold a divine power, touching the spirit in ways words can't.
Her style? Unrestricted, organic—a canvas reflecting every life chapter. Inspired by nature from road trips across BC and Alberta, her art tells stories. Some pieces layer emotions, others flow with thick, fluid paint—each a unique expression. Through harsh realities and indescribable beauty, Colette's art speaks volumes.

Nature is her muse, infusing hope and transformation into her creations. Her work unveils the Creator's unseen traits, offering a glimpse of pure beauty.
In a nutshell, Colette's art is her signature—raising the bar for interior and architectural design with unrivalled class.

Dieter Schlatter began his artistic journey as a photographer capturing landscapes, portraits, and nudes predominantly in black and white. Being entirely self-taught, Schlatter immersed himself in art history books, dedicating countless hours to experimentation with styles and composition, and transitioned to a career as a painter in 1990.
He found painting to be the most expressive medium for his creative drive, focusing primarily on landscapes initially and more recently delving into the human form. His paintings often evoke a sense of moodiness and conflict, striking a nerve with viewers through their evocative imagery, and are rooted in a deep fascination with history, environmental impact, and the lasting imprints on the world.

Milena Martínez Pedrosa's artwork represents her personal journey, providing a unique perspective on the world. It explores the themes of individuality, humanity, and identity, drawing inspiration from her experience as a Cuban-American immigrant.

She seamlessly combines traditional oil-on-canvas techniques with collage, sculpture, and installation, refusing to confine herself to a single medium or style. Milena's art is driven by her core ideas rather than aesthetics alone, covering a wide range of subjects, from the social and political to the intimate and existential.

Her work often incorporates cynicism and irony to highlight paradoxes and convey messages of denunciation, conflict, and power. She approaches art as a storyteller, using it as an alternative language to interact and communicate.

The human body holds a significant place in Milena's work, symbolizing corporal expression and tattoos as both a personal canvas and marks of our past. Her recent work draws inspiration from how museums curate artifacts, with the aim of provoking discussion and diverse interpretations from the audience.

Milena seeks to engage and challenge viewers, ultimately allowing their interpretations to complete the artwork. There's nothing more inspiring to her than evoking public expression and interaction; it's the essence of her artistic journey.

If you’re as captivated by her work as we are, swing by the gallery and get inspired by these stunning pieces of social commentary.

Love and beauty are at the core of why Ciel Ellis creates. Having spent a good part of her life healing from trauma and loss, feeling love became the way finder for how she was going to live. Seeking out those experiences that had her feel alive and well. In the presence of flowers, her emotions flow spontaneously. Knowing that others are also trying to find their way, it is her hope that her flowers inspire the love and beauty she felt when she painted them.

You know that feeling when you open your eyes for the first time after bending over slightly to smell a flower, and you lift your head slowly as your gaze tilts upwards, and you return back to standing- your being overcome with that florally fragrant aroma of life-force material, of vibrance, of pure and raw beauty? That is the inner sensation that this work of art delivers on. These are the pigments that promise to take you back to that sunshine soaked moment in time, and that unparalleled that feeling of true savouring... Holding that fullness at the peak of your inhale... Breathing in and feeling at one with it all. This is "Radiant Nectar Musk!"

Throughout George Casprowitz's long career as an artist, he has always been inspired by his last painting; what did he learn, what could he do differently on the next piece? He uses the colours he sees in nature, from the deep colours of the forest to the misty hues of the morning sun, to express his views through painting.

What do you get from this piece?

Shangri-la, Avalon, Kunlun. Each mythological paradise inspires one of White Rock artist and poet Katherine Garratt’s paintings. Each painting holds the underlying message that we should be living in harmony with nature rather than in opposition to it. Her imagery depicts metamorphic changes between humans, birds, animals, and plants. For example, her painting "The Swan's Embrace" portrays two human figures merging with a swan while their lower bodies have metamorphosed into the roots of a tree.

At today’s live painting event, Katherine was working on a new piece inspired by the fascinating mythology of Atlantis. If you want to gain some inspiration of your own by watching an artist in action, Katherine will be returning to the gallery on September 9, 2023.

Thank you so much for coming out, Katherine. We can’t wait to have you back again!

Introducing a new artist at the gallery, Nadia Hasan!

Nadia, in her own words:

"I have a resume, a business; a team, a last name I still confuse since I have returned to it, and things I love to piece together. I love-love; I love to sit in moments and see things; ugly things too. We all have both things; that make each other true; light and shadows.

Creating art and writing lives outside my morning routine; conference calls, the suited-up meeting, the well-written response, overthinking, passing, momming and high heels. I try without them and there is a difference. In this space, I ponder Art; myths, the trivium-quadrivium, Aspergers, anthropology, Sufism, truth, and beauty. All dreaming, fantasizing, and flirting with poetry as I churn words with my fingers through art on canvas.

My works arrive like a fever, and until I've written the words down, transferred inspiration into colour and form across a canvas, really wrestled with them, I am caged in a well."

Are you as inspired as we are? Drop by the gallery today to take in some incredible art and find your inspiration.
