New locket finished. I decided to use some lapis lazuli cube beads to match the eye cabachon. I have one of those left and it’s being made into a necklace right now

Finally caught up with shipping orders out. Today I was well enough to start some new stuff and this one got reserved before I could finish it

After a week long stay in Toronto General and then Princess Margaret to dea with complications and give these cnet tumors the beat down, I’ve made this cancer my bitch again and I get to go home today!

I am grateful for everyone’s patience with so many delays in getting orders out while I was battling an infection. I’m not screaming in pain for the first time in ages and feel like I’m getting some semblance of my life back.

For your viewing please, I thought I’d share some photos of pieces I made in 2010-2012. Summery, mermaid themed pieces and decorated vintage solid steel based barrettes, ideal for keep heavy, thick hair up in sticky humid weather. Each is OOAK, and range between $35 and $85 CAD.

What do you think? When I’m able to, should I make some new barrettes for the summer? What kind of theme would you like to see?

After a few weeks of being unwell, I finally clawed my way back into the work room to catch up! WiP - custom order Locket necklace

It’s been a bit of a roller coaster since moving back home from Hospice care. Lots of cleaning needed to be done, and my back went out again for a bit, but I seem to be stable now, if not a little extra tired.

My sincere apologies for the delay in shipping orders. They are safe and sound and ready to go, I just need to pack them up and send my daughter off to the post office to ship them, because I cannot make the walk myself anymore. If u you ou are still waiting for your purchase, please DM me and remind me so I can make it a priority. Thank you for your patience and consideration!

These stunning lapis lazuli ladyfingers became a collar for a friend’s birthday gift. I used 4mm garnet beads in between to fan out the lapis. Finished pic to come!

Just a lovely mermaid friend making mermaid things 💙

We got this old girl back for some repairs. I replaced the blended waist (which was heavily worn down) and it’s amazing what a new waist can do for a tail.
This is one of my favorite designs from so long ago and I’m amazed with how good it looks considering all the life it’s lived so far.
I named her Maori because this design was inspired by a Redbreasted Maori Wrasse 🥰
I also made a matching Clamshell crown and necklace❤️

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

New supplies arrives 3 weeks early:

Large are 40x30mm cabachons, next are 25x18mm cabachons (sweater pin size), and then 25mm round size. I have an extremely limited supply of these because I bought other supplies for orders, and splurged on these as ‘samples’ just to see if I could come up with something really neat. I already sketched out a few ideas!

I cannot WAIT to finish making and shipping my current orders so I can start playing with these!!!

What’s your favourite design?

Dream it, then BE it! A perfect example of an artist making their dream a reality and Pershing that to where they are now, on to of their field. Extras Kudos to Tyler Stutter of Twenty Penny Productions, professional clown, illusionist, performer, and Raven’s husband and photographer. A stunning power couple and dynamic duo! Catching a show with these two is a MUST SEE!

How it started and how it’s going.

The first photo was taken by my dad ❤️
Truly one of the best days of my life. I was around 8years old when I hand sewed this little gray tail. I didn’t know how to sew and there wasn’t a mermaid community or mermaid tails available then like there are now.
It sure was ugly 😅, but to me it was the greatest thing in the whole world and I was so proud of myself for making it. I’ll never forget this day or how happy I was. Seeing the photos my dad took and realizing I’d made my dream a reality truly sparked something inside of me.
I’m so grateful my dad took this photo because this was the beginning of the silly made up life I live now.
Bottom photo from my most recent mermaid photoshoot with Tyler. 🖤

Guess who’s feeling better and actually able to venture home for the day?

MEEEE!!!!!

Thanks to the multi-talented Rashelle for the kitty cakes yesterday! I got my appetite back in the early morning and chomped the head off one. Adorable and Delicious!

Also thanks to Rashelle, I had Jason stop to get me a steak burrito for lunch. Om nom nom 💜

Another favourite artist of mine is the Uber talented Rashelle of Squidworks Media. Her artwork is incredible! Rashelle uses a variety of mediums to showcase her creative works, including as a successful tattoo artist!
Check out Squidworks Media and see why I can’t get enough of this talented lady’s work!

My friend and incomparable artist and visionary, professional sculptor and mermaid, Raven Sutter of Merbella Studios Inc. LIKE her page and check out her insanely gorgeous handmade silicone performance tails, tops, and accessories!

I’ve been a fan of Raven’s work since I met her while she was performing at Ft Myers Beach Pirate Festival in 2011. I’ve had the pleasure and honour of becoming her friend, and watching her work flourish and evolve into the masterpieces she creates every day! Many have attempted to duplicate her designs, and can never match her eye for colour and design, the quality of her craftsmanship. She not only makes the products, she PERFORMS in it!
Have a look at her page, and fall in love with this stunning siren!

We will be listing some more crowns this Friday at 2pm EST.

This small halo style has been my go to lately, there will be a few of this style as well as some other styles in a variety of colors 💛

More pieces to photograph and share tomorrow, and more colours of the dragonfly earrings, and a few necklaces coming soon!

Also, the sweater chains I make? Here’s all the options I have available to make into them. The vintage acrylic dog and cat cameos are each I pair only, so if you want one, say so in the comments to reserve until I receive payment.

The second photo features D12 and D20 dice drilled and wired into pendants, ready to become necklaces. These are what’s currently available, and I have many other colours I will share when I get around to drilling them. The pink/black in silver and the bright teal in antique bronze are SOLD. Each necklace is $35.00.
For the Dice, I use Chessex brand because of the high quality of the plastic they use. Drilling into the dice heats up the plastic and cheaper dice melt too fast and then weld to the drill bit, snapping it in half. If you want to drill holes in dice for various projects, splurge on the better quality! The colours are also much nicer 💜

I absolutely love these! From the Night Carnival collection, these fortune teller earrings feature tiny images of antique circus posters used by Barnum and Bailey. Vintage brass coins for good fortune, hand painted Victorian filigree, and vintage crystal beads. Super light weight because of the brass, these are so light on the ears you’ll forget you’re wearing them! OOAK. $35.00

My favourite thing to make - lockets! I love the sentimentality of a locket, the satisfying ‘SNAP’ of the closure, such a beautiful way to carry photos of loved ones, family, pets, friends.

This one, the ‘SEER’ is an Art Deco inspired piece influenced by the 1920’s/30’s occultism movement. Fortune tellers, seance cocktail parties, and an avid fascination with what lay beyond the veil. Symbols of protection - a black cat, eyes to ward off evil, cards to predict the near future, all mounted on a hand painted 1940’s brass locket, with iridescent crystal and cobalt glass beads. One of a kind. $75.00

Hello fabulous people!

I’m humbled and thrilled to say that my Etsy shop is very bare right now, thanks to so many of you supporting my art and lifelong passion. I’m over the moon! Please bare with me as it takes longer to ship than it used to as I’m only at my apt part time, the other half spent living in the hospice. I’ll be at my apt today to pack order and finish making pieces.

Like many of my artisan colleagues, I’ve been considering other platforms to sell my work besides Etsy. They keep raising their fees for sellers, their handmade only policy went out the window years ago, and the only way to promote your shop is to pay them more money for advertising. They charge more and do less for makers and it’s hurt many businesses. I have many designer friends who are selling directly through their Instagram page and Facebook, so I’m thinking of keeping the fees Etsy would take and selling here via e transfer (and PayPal for US customers), what do you think? Would you be more comfortable buying direct, or do you feel more secure buying through a platform like Etsy?

In the meantime I will be posting items for sale here, where they will be available before they are listed in the shop. This one is the Edwardian inspired blue rose festoon necklace with hand painted cameo, vintage crystal and Swarovski AB jet drops, 1950’s acrylic roses, and opaque blue stones. $85.00. Crystal drop earrings included.

After a year on hiatus I finally was able to reopen my Etsy shop, and am almost sold out! Since I moved to living in the hospice full time I only get to my work room once a week now, but the fact that I can work again means EVERYTHING to me! One of my favourite parts is when our love puddle, Luna, climbs up on her perch and meows and chirps until I come and pet her belly. **kcancer

Hello fabulous people!!! I’m BAAAACK!!!

I just reopened my Etsy shop last night, after a year on hiatus while I grappled with health issues and what felt like a continuous nightmare of complications, until the final word in Dec when the docs said there’s nothing left to do that will help. I chose to stop chem and treatments, and they’re making sure I’m as comfy and pain free as possible, for as long as I have.

Which turns out to be MUCH more time than we thought!! I didn’t expect to see New Years, and here I am, almost upon my 51st birthday coming up in March! So I decided to reopen my shop for the remainder of the pieces I have available, plus anything I am able to create now. Feeling productive again is EVERYTHING!!

I was moved to tears this morning when I woke and saw the sales from last night, and felt the love and support of friends and customers who have been part of my journey all this time. I am the luckiest girl in the world to have this time and ability to create my work as long as I can! And I cannot have done it without any of YOU.

Here’s a couple of pieces currently in the shop, and I have a bunch of hand painted Art Nouveau inspired dragonfly earrings already made and ready to list.

I have several commissions to complete and ship before I accept any new custom orders, but I’m doing my very best to make sure I get there!

Thank you again, for all of your love and support. It is truly felt and deeply appreciated. I am blessed beyond words 💜💜💜💜💜

Recovery has not been what we expected. Spent another week in TGH to find out I have degenerative disks in my lower back and hips, which makes moving around slow and uncomfortable, and getting back to normal a longer climb. It’s temporary, and I will get through this. Super proud of myself for taking transit all the way to PMH for a follow up this past Thursday! It took me 1.5 days to recover but so worth it. I’m so anxious to get back in the workroom and pick up where I left off, and thank you to everyone who sent warm wishes and kind words of support. It means the world to me and I have never felt so loved 🥰

Hello fabulous people!

It's been a long, exhausting journey with my health the last year. Rushing to emergency at Toronto General Hospital in December, 2020, and over the course of 4 months, having multiple surgeries to deal with some issues (not related to my cancer, thank goodness!).

I was home for a few months, recovering and healing, then a new complication arose and off I went again, this time for a week, and thankfully no surgeries.

My shop has been on vacation all this time, and I have been doing my very best to recover, heal, and my pain under control enough to function, and I have been anxious to get back in the work room! I have fallen behind in my responsibilities, and deeply appreciate the patience and consideration of my customers who have been waiting for orders to arrive. I am pretty sure my list is correct, however, if you are unsure PLEASE DM ME with a reminder just in case! Better safe than sorry :)

Today I'm sharing this photo of one of my favourite pieces I've created. I absolutely adore doing the patina on the metals myself, then hand painting them to add texture and colour in unique places. I have SO much inspiration, and many ideas for what I wish to make for my first show since 2019, but first, to clear my board.

What has been inspiring you lately? is it a colour, or a mood? Perhaps something unique you just acquired, or a friend's garden?

Let me know! And have a FABULOUS day!

To all of my customers, and fellow Etsy sellers:

Please do me and other artisans a favor and don't become "click happy" this holiday shopping season on Etsy ads that you'll see popping up on Facebook, Instagram, Google, Bing, and Pinterest. If you click on an ad and then purchase any item from my Etsy shop within the next 30 days, Etsy charges me an addtional 12% of the sales total (including shipping) over and above the regular Etsy fees and credit card fees because they say they helped to make the sale. We cannot opt out of these ads if we have over a certain dollar amount in sales in the previous 12 months. Definitely continue to use Etsy, but go directly to Etsy and search for the shop or item which is the most cost beneficial method for the small artisans. bluegoosepottery.etsy.com If you're local, contact me directly for a pickup or meetup! 😃
