Jaffna Library Burning
An archive of information on Jaffna Public Library Burning in 1981 and its global impact on Tamil people.
Please share widely.
In commemoration of the 38th year of Black July, the Canadian Tamil Congress will be hosting an online interactive session about this poignant event in our Tamil history. This will be a session for reflections, conversations, and an overlook of the July 1983 events that unfolded in Sri Lanka highlighting its impact on Tamil people.
As this resilience embeds itself to the fabric of our identity and understanding of our community, we reflect on these days with all who still live to share their stories and experiences. It is important we reflect on the atrocities that took place and how they still affect our communities, and how times have changed since then. Even after 38 years, as our community continues to seek justice and equality in the island of Sri Lanka, it is important that we continue to educate our youth about Black July. We must remember its significant impact on our people as it will always be an integral part of Tamil history in Sri Lanka. We encourage all of you, especially the youth to take part in this informative online session.
Date: Sunday, July 25th, 2021
Time: 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
